Brennen Leigh Announces New Album, Reveals New Song “Dumpster Diving”

Brennen Leigh is one of the most preeminent country and Western singers of our era, a spectacular songwriter, and a skilled guitar player to boot, even if our era has been slow to awaken to these unequivocal truths. Those that have arisen from the stupor of mainstream country radio though, they know all the superlatives placed Brennen Leigh’s feet aren’t slipping into hyperbole. They feverishly concur, ready and willing to share their wonderment with Brennen.
This is the reason some have been sent downright giddy by the recent revelation that Brennen Leigh will be releasing a new album called Don’t You Ever Give Up On Love on October 3rd via Signature Sounds. Produced by steel guitar extraordinaire Kevin Skrla, you can expect this to be a sincere, honest, and pure expression of classic country, uncorrupted by commercial interests or trend chasing.
“I recorded a country and Western album. I know that’s shocking,” Brennen Leigh says. “But if you are into things like heavy steel guitar, good stories, some crying and sadness and heartache, I think this might be the kind of record for you. I made it down in Texas at Wolf Island Recording Company, and I got the best people I could to play on it. I think if you’re into C&W, that’s your jam, I have a feeling you might like it.”

Might like it? We just might love it if the opening single is any indication. Called “Dumpster Diving,” it mixes Brennen’s classic humor with her cutting insight, saying more in a minute forty than many blathering and aimless tracks do in four minutes, though it does leave you wanting more. Don’t worry though, there’s 11 more tracks due out in October.
Along with her solo career, Brennen Leigh has quite the enterprising side hustle of writing and co-writing songs for others, including the great recent track “Houston Belongs To Me” from Sunny Sweeney’s new record Rhinestone Requiem. Leigh is also one third of the Wonder Women of Country supergroup with Melissa Carper and Kelly Willis. Though Brennen is originally from the Midwest and rose through the ranks in Austin, you can now see her haunting Nashville on a nightly basis where she’s revered by peers and fans alike.

Brennen is wonderful. I was scrolling FB and saw a clip of her and Alex Miller playing an Ernest Tubb tune live in Nashville, and next in the feed was the video of her making the announcement you quoted.
The song titles alone are about as real Country music as it gets.

“saying more in a minute forty than many blathering and aimless tracks do in four minutes”
Her very catchy “Running Out of Hope, Arkansas” is also just two minutes. I think about that song every time I drive that stretch of I-30.

Wow, that sounded like the reincarnation of Loretta Lynn. I want to hear more.
