Jake Worthington Announces New Album “When I Write The Song”

It’s not just Zach Top helping to save country music in real time with a neotraditional sound. His partner in crime on tour and frequent duet partner Jake Worthington definitely has a hand in helping to revitalize the ’90s country sound, putting twang and top-shelf songs back into the modern country music diet. Worthington’s 2023 self-titled release was one worth listening to, and the subsequent singles have been lights out as well.
Signed to Big Loud’s Texas-based imprint, now Jake Worthington is preparing his sophomore album, and if what we’ve heard from it so far is any indication, it’s going to be a keeper. Called When I Write The Song, it will be released on September 12th. New killer Western swing song “My Home’s In Oklahoma” is out now (listen below).
“This record means to me … it’s a good reminder to fight the good fight. What I mean by that is I’m a strong believer in ‘Do what moves ya,’ make the kind of music that wrecks your world or picks up all the pieces.” Jake Worthington says. “If it makes you feel that kind of way, and that’s what you need, then don’t let anybody or anything change that. Nobody can make that decision for you.”

Along with featuring collaborations with Marty Stuart, Mae Estes, and Miranda Lambert, songwriters Will Banister, Dean Dillon, and Roger Springer make appearances in the track list. The album is produced by Chuck Ainlay, Jon Randall in parts, along with (*cough*) Joey Moi, who did a surprisingly good job on the first one.
“I’m proud to have been able to put a record together, and this is the second one. It’s just the second chapter in what I hope to be a really long book of albums that I get to make throughout the years, and what I leave to my family.”
When I Write The Song is now available for pre-save.

Killer Western swing indeed! Looking forward to this one.

Can’t wait for this and “not like I use to” is my personal song of the year.

Man I love seeing Roger Springer’s name on so many tracks. He was Mark Chesnutt’s go to guy in the 90’s and on his last studio album.

Wow, this song just screams George strait, I hope the rest of the album is like this. There is a lot of great music coming out this year!

Yeah. Reminds me of Home in San Antone that George covered in the early 90s. Really catchy and just enjoyable.

Super excited for this JW isn’t capable of putting out a bad song. And he’s opening for Zach Top on his tour to boot

Let the musicians do their thing!
Sounds great.

Zach may have the more marketable image, but overall Jake has better music. They’re both great though.

This is great! Jake’s been on my radar for a little while, and I’m liking what I’m hearing so far. Plus, Single at the Same Time is a gem of a song that everyone should hear at least once.

I’ve always liked Worthington. Nice combo of Contemporary Country and Texas Honky Tonk. Good voice. Seemingly a nice guy. I’m looking forward to this.

He’s the nicest guy you’d ever want to meet. He was here at Carol’s Pub back in 23, and he was tearing down his own gear after the show, I told him who I was, and he stopped to take a pic, chat, and say thank you for the support. He and his band tore it up!!! Can’t wait for new JW. One of the good ones for sure.

He’s a great guy! Saw him in 2023 at a small place in Annapolis, MD and met him afterwards. He let me sing a few lines of a song to him, and then when he opened for Cody Johnson a few months later, he walked past where I was sitting, saw me and stopped to say hello

Having heard the single, I look forward to the album. One can question artists such as Childers or Sturgill but there is no question about Worthington being country.

T’is good to hear of an alumni from The Voice move up to bigger and better things on his own. Jake was my favorite on The Voice. Having Marty and Miranda on board is a good reflection on Jake’s country cred. The synopsis of this forthcoming album shows the proof is in the pudding. This JW album is definitely on my buy list. Cheers & Twangs!

Saw him twice in the last month. Super fun acoustic story time set and one rowdy honky tonk night! He can do it all and he truly appreciates his fans. True blue “salt of the earth” kinda guy. I pray he has a lifetime of a career!

I really enjoy his music. Still need to get an album of his in my musical library.
July 30, 2025 @ 7:12 pm
I want to like him but I wish he’d relax his vocals a bit and sing more natural. I’m sure he has a great voice in there

Love this guy’s first album. 5 songs are available already off this new disc now.
Lambert sure gets around…
