Leon Bridges, Charley Crockett Plot “The Crooner & The Cowboy” Tour

Two Texas originals who bring a whole lot of heart and soul to their music are teeming up for a unique tour that you won’t want to miss if it comes rolling through your town. They’re calling it “The Crooner and the Cowboy” tour, and it will be taking the road in late summer into the early fall. Leon Bridges and Charley Crockett have long been friends. Now they will share the stage on tour for the first time.
Officially, Charley Crockett will be opening for Leon on the tour, but will be playing an equal set. Another selling point for the tour is the additional openers they’ve slotted for the show, including Noeline Hoffman, plus Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore on select dates. Leon and Charley had already announced a special show at the Hollywood Bowl on June 5th. Now they’ve added 19 more dates across the United States.
“Me and Charley Crockett have been chasing this dream side by side for a decade,” Leon Bridges says. “We grew up in this thing together. From the smallest clubs you can imagine—places where you could hear a pin drop, or sometimes, folks talkin’ over the music. But we kept on grinding! Now to be able to share a stage and bring this tour to big rooms and amphitheaters … man, it feels full circle.”
Charley Crockett and Leon Bridges have been seen on the stage before. Crockett was born in south Texas, but spent much time in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area where Leon Bridges is from. There’s a fun video from 2016 matching Leon, Charley, an early version of Charley’s band The Blue Drifters, and Vincent Neil Emerson also from the DFW area together.
Charley Crockett just released his latest album Lonesome Drifter (read review), and also recently headlined the massive Rodeo Houston. Interestingly, Saving Country Music was once labeled as “racist” by Texas Monthly for having the audacity to defend Leon Bridges playing Rodeo Houston when he was attacked for not being “big enough.”
Leon Bridges has gone on to prove those naysayers wrong, and so has Charley Crockett. Now the two men will share the stage, and hopefully we get some cool live collaborations out of this tour pairing.

Every time I see an article with Charley I just get even more excited to see him live again in June lol
Also Trigger, what are the chances of you reviewing Kenny Feidler’s new live album?
March 20, 2025 @ 10:30 pm
I don’t review a lot of live albums, and a 34-song one is a tall order. But I’ll give it a listen and see if I have a review for it in me.

Love Leon’s voice. And his easy like Sunday morning, Caribbean-esque at times – vibe.
Not sure what a Charley/Leon mashup/collab. would be like, today.
Charley has created such a distinctive version of himself currently, which i like.
Looking forward to reading what people who are able to attend shows from this tour, think.

I love that they’re showcasing a legend like Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Maybe one of the most underrated texas performers ever.

A bit of an odd pairing. Different fanbases for sure. Curious what Leon Bridges fans will think, or if maybe they skip the openers and just come for the headliner. Bridges is excellent as an R & B singer, but country he ain’t. But either way, it’s just one tour so, ehhh. Love Dave Alvin, he’s a national treasure.

I found Charley Crockett through Leon Bridges back when he was still putting out more R&B sounding stuff (In the Night & A Stolen Jewel were his only Albums on Spotify at the time). That was also around the time when Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and Gary Clark Jr. were breaking through and that classic R&B sound was starting to come back into fashion, at least it was with with my friends and our tastes at the time. We were also really into Sturgill, Isbell, Parker Millsap, and the Avett Brothers at the time and I end up lumping that all together in my mind. Genre-wise, they’re very different, but I think the right audience will be into it. I know I was disappointed when I saw they weren’t coming to Atlanta.

You boys are about as out of touch is it gets. These guys careers are very closely tied together.

Misery Steve,
Thanks for the eloquent and sincere response. Rare these days to find people online willing to be civil and engage in a courteous discourse. Your politeness is overwhelming.
Yeah, I’m out of touch. I’ve only known of Charley’s existence since oh…about 2015 give or take. I recall when he was a solo act playing acoustic on all sorts of small stages on the festival circuit. Then I watched him ” become a country singer”. I was one of the early photographers to bring attention to his Country career with images No Depression used. Shortly after I hyped him to that publication, he became a ” spotlight artist”, getting 3 articles from them. And I’ve photographed Dave Alvin and Jimmy Dale various times over the years, and have seen Jimmy with The Flatlanders and Dave in numerous bands. But your right, I’m clueless. As for Bridges, I’ve known of him awhile as well. But what we have is an R&B man, a retro country guy, and a pair of Americana artists. Not a bad thing, nor was i implying it was. Just a curious observation. Yes, I can read. The article above mentions the friendship between the two, I get it.

Leon Bridges, CHarley Crockett and Noeline Hoffman on the same bill is so great. I’m mildly gutted that my local show (Berkeley) on Charley Crockett’s tour is just him now! It’ll sure to be a great show none-the-less.
Speaking of this Dallas crew. Vincent Neil Emerson was on fire in a small room in San Francisco this week. Great show, and anyone who hasn’t caught him this year should. He’s reimagined Fried Chicken and Evil Women as a bluesy number, and has a lot of great new unreleased material. Upcoming album will be great.

It makes sense these guys are touring together. I think the main connective thread here, if not the music, is that they’re both dandies – ie. they both seem to put a lot of thought and effort into their outfits.
I was a fan of Leon Bridges once upon a time, until I saw him live. Just not that good, honestly. Very weak voice in a live setting and not enough musicianship or showmanship to make up for that. I’ve just got way less f*cks to give these days about artists that don’t excel. I wanna hear a great voice, great musicianship, great showmanship.
Speaking of those things, are we getting review of Wilder Blue’s new album soon? To my ears, it’s excellent.

My albums review plans got blown up this week by breaking news, but I got Boland up this morning and hope to have a bunch more up soon.

I’m signed up for the presale. They will be in St. Augustine in September, at the Amphitheater where we saw Charley in August. And the September show is the night before our anniversary, so it will be a cool celebration.
March 25, 2025 @ 9:48 am
Hell yeah- I’ll catch a show- finally a good singer on a crockett tour!
March 26, 2025 @ 3:51 pm
Got my tickets for St. Augustine yesterday morning. The show is the night before out 46th anniversary, so it’s an early Sunday dinner, then off to get crooned by Leon and Charley.
Sounds like a party to me.
