Netflix Series “The Waterfront” Features Killer Country Soundtrack

Netflix released all eight episodes of a new crime drama series called The Waterfront on June 19th, and along with the show itself, folks are raving about the names and the songs that appear in the show’s soundtrack. See the full soundtrack below.
Not unlike Yellowstone and Landman, or the Oklahoma-based series Reservation Dogs, The Waterfront and Music Supervisor Frank Palazzolo really show a breath of knowledge about great under-the-radar country music, and showcase it on the show in a way that results in both a payday for the artists, as well as exposure to a bigger audience through the series.
Through the eight episodes, you can hear country legends featured such as Tammy Wynette, The Marshall Tucker Band, and Lee Ann Womack. You have up-and-comers and under-the-radar names featured prominently like Bella White multiple times, Ben Chapman, John Fullbright, Myron Elkins, and Caitlin Rose. You also have more established names appearing such as Brent Cobb, Chris Stapleton, Stephen Wilson Jr., and Ryan Bingham.
The Waterfront was created by Kevin Williamson, known for series such as Dawson’s Creek and The Vampire Diaries. It was inspired in part by Williamson’s life growing up in North Carolina, hence perhaps the roots music tie-ins. The series stars Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, Jake Weary, Rafael L. Silva, and Humberly González.
The full soundtrack can be found on most streaming services, and was released via Pure Rebel Records. Here are the songs that appear in the series and the corresponding episodes.

Great seeing Ben Chapman and Myron on here. Now how many out there would have correctly named the band that sang “Brandy (You’re a fine Girl)”? Be honest. Makes a heckuva good trivia question. In my experience everyone knows that song and no one knows who sang it. Big Head Todd and the Monsters gets half a point as they do a great cover keeping it alive for future generations. Bonus question for one million points – name any other song by Looking Glass.

I definitely did not know it was Looking Glass and never heard another song by them!

“Jimmy Loves Mary-Anne” was featured on a Columbia Rock Artifacts CD. Anxiously awaiting my million points.

Agreed, pretty killer song list.
Brilliant line in Stephen Wilson, Jr’s., Hang In There.
“It can turn into fuel when I’m on E”

Matt mason has a song called “e” love him and excellent song. He never exactly got his due. Other than winning cmt next superstar. Got a major label deal out of it but sort of shelved him.
Sort of a mix between gary Alan and Eric church.

That show is a great guilty pleasure. We loved watching it. But honestly it wasn’t until episode 7 that I even noticed the music, and that’s because it was the great Channing Wilson.

Ben Chapman while not particularly “county” with a few of the songs I listened to was a good discovery from the 1st episode.
Show seems kinda like Ozarks except it’s starting way further into the story and the acting isn’t as good.

Speaking of Ben Chapman, the racist and anti-Semitic Philadelphia Phillies manager who screaming racial epithets at Jackie Robinson when Robinson took the field with the Dodgers against Chapman’s Phillies died July 7,1993,32 years ago today.

Not the same Ben Chapman, and I don’t appreciate the non-sequiter, or the alluding to racist behavior by an artist just because he has the same name as someone else.
You’re also just commenting too much, and need to learn how to respond to the actual people you’re responding to.

Unignorables songs!…Stephen Wilson’s “dig a hole” and Larkin Poe’s “The deep stays down” got me sitting up straight!
