New 49 Winchester Song to Appear in “Yellowstone” Finale
49 Winchester is one of the many independent bands that has benefited greatly from having songs appear in the series Yellowstone over its five seasons. Their song “Make It Count” appeared in the penultimate episode on December 8th, and they had another song appear in an episode back in 2022. Now it’s been revealed that they will be one of the lucky few who will have a song in the season finale airing Sunday, December 15th.
Fans are lucky too, because it’s a brand new song, and the latest release since their new album Leaving This Holler from this summer, which was recently nominated for Saving Country Music’s 2024 Album of the Year. The song is called “Miles To Go.”
“Sometimes a song just writes itself, and this was one of those songs,” says frontman Isaac Gibson. “I wrote it between cities, somewhere on some distant stretch of interstate, in a matter of a couple of minutes. It’s a leaving song, which seems to have been a big theme on our new album. It was initially a part of ‘Leavin’ This Holler,’ but it wound up being left off for the record to fit on vinyl.”
Speaking of vinyl, 49 Winchester’s record label New West is going to be releasing the band’s first three albums 49 Winchester (2014), The Wind (2018), & III (2020) on vinyl for the first time on January 17th, 2025. There will be limited-edition indie record store colored vinyl editions, as well as standard black vinyl. You can find them all on Bandcamp.
“For me, there is no better way to debut [‘Miles To Go’] than in the final season of ‘Yellowstone’,” says Isaac Gibson. “It’s always such an honor to have the art and sounds that you’ve created put on display in television and film, and Taylor Sheridan has given us, and so many other off-the-centerline country acts, a great platform to do that.”
The season finale of Yellowstone might have all kinds of musical premiers and surprises. The Turnpike Troubadours appeared in the next to last episode. Ryan Bingham (who plays the character Walker in the series) has also released a new song called “A Song for the Stone” that he’s also confirmed will be in the final episode.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Taylor Sheridan reinvents a new character for himself as a Red Dirt musician in a future series. Of course he’ll be greatest of all time at that.

It may get in the way of him being a special ops bad ass in Lioness.

Playing one, and being one, are two entirely different things.
Sheridan can COSPLAY until the cows come home. Cosplay most definitely does not make him a “bad ass.”
The Real Navy Seals, Special Ops, Black Ops Guys, are Amazing.
And, you would never know when you are standing next to one.
That’s how BAD ASS these guys are.
These guys, NAVY SEALS, SPECIAL OPS, BLACK OPS, have my entire ❤️.
My son holds 2 Navy Seal coins for me, as i am around the U.S.
GREATEST HONOR OF MY LIFE.
Other than being my son’s mother.

3 summers I drove to WV from NYC to see 49 Winchester play in a tent. And now, they have a song on Yellowstone. That’s all.

Hey Trig, off the subject, but what’s your take on Blake Shelton producing a Keith Whitley documentary? Not a Shelton fan at all, but I’m glad it’s happening & could introduce more fans to traditional (real) country.

I’m going to probably have an article about this on Sunday. I am glad they’re making a documentary on Keith Whitley. Most signs are pointing to it being much more oriented towards people who’ve never heard of Keith Whitley before as opposed to those who celebrate his legacy. They’re not starting filming until January so a lot still needs to be determined, so I will remain optimistic.

It wouldn’t exactly be the first time on vinyl cause the three albums already had a small run on Heady Wax Fiends last August (the first two are still available on their website).

Big fan of these guys but this song does indeed sound like it was written in 10 minutes.
