Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#161)

Don’t get caught spinning some pop country swill at your summer soiree. There’s excellent, actual country music still out there being made, you just have to seek it out. This playlist is a place to start.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Chasen Wayne – “Easy To Find” – On Chasen Wayne’s new concept album with Austin’s Honky Tonk Machine called Corpus, he includes this super twangy honky tonk scorcher that’s one hell of a good time to listen to.
Tami Neilson – “Heartbreak City, USA” – Part tribute, part true story, part kiss off, Tami delves into the complex nature of the Capital of Country Music in this song that if not else is a great forum for some killer guitar work. It’s one of the multiple gems on Tami’s new album, Neon Cowgirl.
Tami Neilson – “Foolish Heart” – This Countrypolitan masterpiece by Tami Neilson is the perfect launching pad for her incredible, powerhouse voice. Few if anyone can draw as much emotion to the surface in a song as Tami.
Cody Christian – “Modern Railways” – We first doted on Cody Christian after the release of his strongly Applachian 2022 debut album Canary in a Coal Mine. This song is a great example of bringing classic verbiage to a modern song in a way that gives a time dimension to a story. And hey, you rarely can go wrong with a train song.
Randall King – “I Keep Your Memory Around” – Randall King has been on a tear lately with his last two singles, now earning himself two slots on the Top 25 playlist. This one is a bit more sentimental, creating a excellent showcase for King’s excellent, industry-leading country music voice.
Kyle Gates – “A Memory Lost Somewhere” – If you’re a fan of throwback traditional country, Kyle Gates is definitely one to get on your radar, and “A Memory Lost Somewhere” is a good example why. The self-written tune was produced by Tommy Detamore, known for working with Jesse Daniel and others. Gates actually has a newer single out too called “All I Can Do,” but this one was too good not to feature first.
Myron Elkins – “Giving Up and Giving In” – The voice of Myron Elkins feel like an 8th Wonder of the World, and he puts it to good use on his new album Nostalgia For Sale. There’s a bit more soul on the album compared to his debut, but “I Keep Your Memory Around” still gives off those inviting Southern rock vibes.

Man Trig, it’s been a while since you put the last one up. Much has changed here at JBC headquarters……at the risk of overstaying my post length, I apologize. The new Ashley McBryde song has been thundering the sub in the Jeep. I don’t think she knows wtf she wants to do, but I like John Osborne producing. Ty Smith & The Minor Offenses Six Feet Of Dirt is in my playlist, as is Randall King, and yes, I like Oliver’s Scornful Woman. It’s raw and it’s real!!
We have Hailey Whitters’ Corn Queen, which gets my vote for mainstream AOTY at this point, btw, still holding down the #1 morning drive slot. Can someone tell me why this girl can’t get a song on the radio? High On A Heartbreak is a HIT FFS!!! I also wouldn’t mind Jake Gear doing Lainey’s next album. The Castellows amazing Acoustic Live Sessions video is on repeat for concert night here on the home theater 80″. It’s sooo good!!!
Jesse Daniel, Myron Elkins, and Joe Stamm Band are the new choices for the bike trail during these scorching summer days. Dan Lepien sits atop the headline spot with the brand new Craig Gerdes album Highs n’ Lows right under it. Alex William’s new album is an incredible piece of work I’m still coming to grips with….. I’m proud of all my Midwest guys!!!…and oh yeah, Ben Jarrell dropped a record yesterday afternoon without warning me….lol the nerve!!! Sorry for rambling, but it’s been a few weeks.

ooh, new Craig Gerdes is exciting to hear about. I was also just googling Ben Jarrell to see what he was up to when the new live album came up. Very excited about both of these .

JBC, aka the Sausage King of Chicago, check out a guy from Dallas named Ben Coleman. I saw him strumming a guitar and singing in Fort Worth and he could very well be another up-and-comer to keep and eye on like Ty. Voice reminds me of Luke Grimes a bit. He’s only got a half dozen singles out but they all have plenty of pedal steel and sound good to my ears.

Oh god! I just listened to Alex Williams’ album without knowing that it was metal covers. That was hilarious to find out. Good job

BRODIE LANE !!!!!!!!! Saw them last night … more Southern Rock but some of you on here will love it !
Check them out!
July 20, 2025 @ 1:08 pm
“Brodie Lane?” Isn’t that a Bro-Country act ?
July 20, 2025 @ 1:11 pm
Great adds, Trig! I’ve been enjoying I Had My Heart on Something Else by Nathan Belt and Not Like I Used To by Jake Worthington as well.

The two things I’ve been really excited about lately are:
-Presley Haile EP.
-Rebecca Porter’s EP (It sounds like there might be a full length version of this later in the summer?) with several amazing songs. Some heavy topics. Kinda gothic country ish.
July 20, 2025 @ 4:56 pm
Lauren Watkins’ Marlboro Man is interesting.
July 20, 2025 @ 9:38 pm
Good song, and I did consider adding it. Might next time if there’s a slot.
July 21, 2025 @ 6:42 am
Cannot wait for this new Randall King album. Dude never misses.
July 21, 2025 @ 12:31 pm
Good adds my dude, as always. RK is about to bust out, I hope.
If’n you still filling that song of the year playlist SG Goodmans “snapping turtle” is excellent, in a horrible way, as it should be.
Lola Kirke put out a couple last week fairly light and fun, and whoever here pointed me to Zandi Holup I owe you a beer or six.
July 21, 2025 @ 6:47 pm
The Michael Told Me song on that SG Goodman album is heartbreaking

The last truly great song (new, that is) that I have heard, is David Ball’s recording of “Riding with Private Malone”. Every word serves the story, not one of them is a filler, and it flows; no hastly rhymes or quirky sentences to fit the rythm.
A thoroughly perfect song; story, melody, delivery. The only thing that annoys me still, 25 years on, is that it always gets a little cloudy whenever I listen to it. A most suspicious phenomenon.
So, a sincere question; can anyone guide me to a newer song, just as well written and arranged, carrying the same emotional power?
July 23, 2025 @ 11:17 am
That’s a curious ideal. I love the song, truly, but never considered it exceptional beyond the storytelling. Wouldn’t argue that you’re wrong – it’s pretty good from every angle.
Newer not new, Cody Jinks “David” is lyrically efficient, sonically pleasant, and powerful enough if you’ve lived long enough to have regrets.
BJ Barhams “unfortunate kind” is another.
Kind regards for prompting an enjoyable listen, ty.

Excellent song, exceptional performance. Has the long-anticipated reincarnation of Waylon Jennings occurred at last?
