Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#164)

Summer is winding down, and it’s time to put away the swimsuits and party songs, and bust out the sweater and sad bastard tunes. There’s so much great music coming out right now, it’s kind of ridiculous.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Chandler Dozier – “It’s Not Me It’s You” – We’ve just found the next great neotraditionalist country star, and his name is Chandler Dozier. He’ll make you an instant fan with the Dwight Yoakam-inspired track. But listening through his debut EP Bakersfield East, you’ll discover the authority this young man brings to various styles of traditional country.
Daniel Donato – “Blame The Train” – Daniel Donato is a country guitar maestro who’s unafraid to explore the region beyond country where twang meets jam band. But on his new album Horizons, you will find all the twang you could ever want, including this tasty tune.
Zach Top – “Between The Ditches” – There will be no sophomore slump from Zach Top. His new album has folks singing his praises, and will keep him ensconced at the top of the genre—a refreshing place for a neotraditionalist. “Between The Ditches” is one of the gems not to overlook on Ain’t In It For My Health.
Margo Price – “Kissing You Goodbye” and “Losing Streak”– Margo Price has just released the best album since her debut, maybe the best album of her entire career, and maybe one of the best country albums so far this year with Hard Headed Woman. That’s why she earns the rare double add on the Top 25 Playlist with these two stellar tracks.
Brothers Comatose – “Blue Mountain” – It’s got to be an extra special song for a bluegrass track to make it on the playlist, and that’s what Brothers Comatose have released with “Blue Mountain.” In this case, it’s sister Addie Levy singing lead, and an immediately timeless melody. It comes from their album Golden Grass out September 12th.
Kashus Culpepper – “Believe” – Kashus just continues to dial in and refine his bluesy country sound, and perhaps sets a high water mark for himself with “Believe.” The only complaint is we need a proper album from this guy, and sooner than later.
Brenn Hill – “The Horse That Made The Cowboy” – If you’re looking for the latest and greatest in cowboy & Western music, Brenn Hill has a new EP out called The West That Money Couldn’t Buy, Vol. 1. This song shows off his cowboy poetry skills complimented by twin fiddles.
Walker Montgomery – “Strangers Like Us” – The son of John Michael Montgomery just keeps delivering with each single he releases. And now with pops retiring, someone stepping up to keep this sound alive is exactly what’s needed. With so much attention being paid to neotraditonalists, Walker Montgomery needs to be more in the conversation. “Strangers Like Us” proves why.

Margo price really knocked my socks off. I agree this is her best album. One of my favorites of the year so far

Walker Montgomery has been releasing some excellent stuff. Any word on a full length album from him?

Not yet, but we definitely need one.

Just gave Blue Mountain a listen and that’s a great song. Last verse when the narrator is more upset, she really puts that into the vocals. Really great stuff and glad it made the list

Turnpike Troubadors’ Heaven Passing Through is charting on the Country Airplay chart. Just #60 this week but hopefully it can manage to be something of a sleeper hit.

Brit Taylor tweeted today suggesting she has new stuff coming out – heard anything about that? She’s severely underrated IMO

I’m sure folks probably get a little tired of my lengthy playlist chime ins and throwing my 2 cents of what I’m listening to around, but I really feel these playlists Trigger posts are not only one of my favorite things about this site they really did change my life 8 or 9 years ago. He also showed me the importance of keeping a little playlist for single songs to go along with my usual 7-10 album rotation.
No one probably cares that much if I like this song or that song in his playlist, and most of the time many are on the albums I’m spinnin’, so I try and bring a tune or 2 that I’m listening to that aren’t on his list. This week the L.C. Franke/Silverada song Prisoner (Southern Bloom) has been spun a lot. It’s different, and I like it.
As for albums…. Sunny, Margo, Daniel Donato, John Howie Jr., Myron, Joe Stamm, and Ben Jarrell are holding most of it down. I’m sure I’m the only one giving the Dillon Carmichael album any love. He’s a misfit of semi mainstream that I always liked even though he hasn’t played here in years. That Zach Top guy comes roaring in to the headline race but hasn’t quite knocked Dan Lepien out of the TOP spot……yet, but he will, and Dan’s fine with it.
Last but not least, the amazing Kimmi Bitter is in the area for 3 big shows starting tonight, 2 in the city proper and one Thursday night at the world famous Law Office Pub. Everyone is excited, and she and her band will be welcomed with open arms.

JB-C, you keep doing you. I personally have found several amazing artists from your lengthy playlist chime-ins. BTW, change of plans on getting up there for The Castellows at Joe’s. I’m going to hit their show in Columbus and then catch Ashland Craft the next day in Plain City. One of these days I’ll get to meet you at Joe’s or Carol’s or the Law Office….

You all know by now I have a soft spot for the raspy females and Sheyna Gee delivered a gut punch about addiction called “Clean” last week. Sheyna sets the absolute bar for the smokiest, whiskey-drenched rasp you’ll ever come across. Speaking of rasp, Ashland Craft’s “Dive Bar Beauty Queen” may end up being my most played album of 2025. Chandler’s “Bakersfield East” EP is not where I normally live, but man is it incredible. Great updates Trigger.

Recommend a listen to Bucket Baby by Tom Curtain. Released earlier this year but I only came across it recently. An interesting story set in the remote Kimberleys of Western Australia. Great track.
