cam-pierce

Even those well versed in the wide expanses of the Western music canon will be strongly intrigued and delighted to hear the decidedly singer/songwriter-style of Western music that Cam Pierce crafts.

ward-davis

On the three-bearded hydra that is Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, and Ward Davis, Ward is the one you turn to when you’re looking for something more thoughtful, more introspective, and where the songwriting is the foremost concern. He’s more Sunday morning than Saturday night….

Jimmie Allen, and His #1 Country Song “Best Shot”

jimmie-allen

“Best Shot” is not a bad song, for pop. And it’s a sum positive that a man of African American descent can earn a #1 song in country music in 2018. But it would mean so much more if the song was actually country. Only then would it be an noteworthy accomplishment.

super-frank-cipra

The Texas music community is small but mighty, and relies on many people behind-the-scenes to get the stars to the shows and the gear on the stage in Texas and beyond. One such individual who was beloved throughout the community was known to many simply as “Frank” or “Super Frank.”

Chris Stapleton, and the Effort to Save Country Music

chris-stapleton

What Chris Stapleton will mean to country music in the grand scheme will be determined in the years to come, not just as history comes to a broad-minded conclusion upon his contributions, but what his next move will be. Because country music won’t be saved at some magical moment you can then circle on a calendar.

Album Review – Kane Brown’s “Experiment”

kane-brown

Kane Brown is not country, and by insisting that he is, unnecessary conflict is created. Understand that many country fans would rather listen to a hip-hop, R&B, or pop record as opposed to Kane Brown, because at least that music will be authentic and honest, and genuine about its nature, as opposed to an aberration of the truth.

West Texas ain’t the cosmos, but it’s vastness and history have inspired many songs and artists over the years no different than gazes skyward at the celestial heavens. Though they never hit the big time or won any major awards, those who are familiar with the legacy of the .357 String Band know they were one of the most important bands in underground roots music history, combining break neck speed, world-class instrumentation, compelling songwriting, and a punk attitude.
