Alright, we ran down the nominees for Album of the Year and Song of the Year. But it’s time to give a little love to the songs that simply get stuck in out heads and remind us of the sheer joy of music.

Song Review – Jason Aldean’s “Lights Come On”

jason-aldean-lights-come-on

So often in modern country the task of songs is to reaffirm the importance of country songs to the listeners. There’s songs about songs, songs about radio, songs about songs on the radio, songs about what it means to be country, songs about what a country song should mean, songs about love, songs about songs about love, and songs about songs about falling in love when a song about love or country comes on the radio.

Why The Hell Was Nick Jonas Playing Guitar on the ACMs Anyway?

nick-jonas-acm-awards

On the 2016 ACM Awards, former boy band member and intermediate guitar player Nick Jonas may as well have come out on stage a drown a puppy. On live television, during Kelsea Ballerini’s dumb new song “Peter Pan,” Nick Jonas perfected the most aggressively terrible guitar solo ever played on any awards show or other live television event in the history of ever.

A natural phenomenon that has been baffling scientists at the University of Alabama for years has taken yet another strange “turn” over the past few months and days. At the grave site of Hank Williams—the legendary country singer who is eternally entombed at the Oakwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama—unexplained seismic activity has been occurring for many years.

Sturgill Simpson made his second appearance on the long-winded Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Monday (4-4) ahead of the release of his new album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth out April 15th, and talked many subjects with the comedian, including the new album. “This is definitely a record that anybody that knows about me, I would like them to hear as a record, because that’s how I recorded it to be heard.”

Album Review – Flatland Cavalry’s “Humble Folks”

flatland-cavalry

Young, fresh-faced and hungry, they’re looking to carve their own little spot out in Texas music and beyond for fans that that don’t just want to hear, but listen. “Easy on the ears, heavy on the heart” is how the group presents themselves, and this is probably a fair representation of their first full length album “Humble Folks.” Comparisons to the Turnpike Troubadours are probably fair as well.

Country Music Has Been Saved . . . Almost

chris-stapleton

This is not another article about Chris Stapleton. This is an article about mainstream American country music radio. Yes, Chris Stapleton won big, again. But Chris Stapleton’s impact still remains paltry on mainstream country radio. The question is, will country radio listen? Or will country radio be left with anybody listening to it?

It was another stunning night for Kentucky songwriter Chris Stapleton as he dominated the 2016 ACM Awards held Sunday (4-3) night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Stapleton walked away with Song of the Year for “Nobody To Blame,” Album of the Year for “Traveller,” and Male Vocalist of the Year as well. Along with an earlier win for New Male Vocalist of the Year, that give him four total awards.

i-saw-the-light-14

Saving Country Music posted a total of 27 articles about I Saw The Light before it’s release. This will make #28. The reason such dedicated interest was shown to the film was because of the potential it carried for exposing the music and the legacy of Hank Williams to an entirely new generation, and to preserve and promote his legacy for generations to come.

Margo Price has now officially pulled off the mother of all coup d’états for an independent country artist. Gary Allan Gets Free of Restrictive MCA Nashville Environment

Now there’s some news, though it’s of a convoluted variety. On Wednesday (3-31), it was announced that Gary Allan had “re-signed” with Universal Music Group Nashville—the parent company of MCA Nashville. The press release spoke about how Gary had been with the label for the entirety of his 20-year career, which is true. But one very important distinction in the press release is that Gary is no longer being promoted by MCA Nashville.
