Jayke Orvis Now With The Goddamn Gallows

Jashie P of Outlaw Radio (who has Scott H. Biram as a guest for the show TONIGHT 7/28 !!) helped me confirm a few days ago that Jayke Orvis, founding and former member of .357 String Band, has now landed with the psychobilly outfit The Goddamn Gallows. I was happy to hear this, because when […]

Album Review – A Bitter Harvest

(A Bitter Harvest is a collaboration between Rachel Brooke and Lonesome Wyatt of Those Poor Bastards. As the release date approached for this album, I began to worry that maybe my expectations were too high, and I was possibly hyping it to the point where it could only be a letdown. But what made this […]

New Horton Heat Includes Hank III & Shack Shakers

We don’t talk nearly enough about The Reverend Horton Heat around here, but since it’s been about five years since he released an album, there hasn’t been much reason to. But the Rev. has a new project coming out on September 1st, Laughin’ and Cryin’, and the “Deluxe” version of this album will include a […]

CMT.com is reporting that perennial cash cow Hank Williams Jr. is planning to 86 Curb Records as his label. Hank Jr., who has been close personal friends with Mike Curb in the past and has been on the label for over 25 years, is leaving because he feels he is not being given the promotional […]

Audio Interview w/ James Hunnicutt

If you do not know who James Hunnicutt is, then you need to take care of that. This is one of the premier guitar pickers out there, and a good singer/songwriter in his own right. You might remember talking about him in my review of the Wayne Hancock show last week. He is out on […]

Stock Rising For Lucky Tubb & Joey Allcorn

Like him or not, Hank Williams III has one of the most rabid and loyal fan bases out there, and that is why the opening act on a Hank III tour is such a coveted position. But landing it doesn’t guarantee you anything. I remember back in ’07 when Jim Goad, author of the The […]

This blog is coming to you LIVE from none other than Luckenbach, TEXAS! Beer is flowing, brats are cooking, and this place was about everything I was expecting and more. Real deal Texas! The first part of the Luckenback experience is actually finding Luckenbach. There’s only ten or so permanent residents here, and it is […]

I am happy to announce that the home of insurgent country, and pound for pound the best independent record label for artists AND fans Bloodshot Records has signed on as an official sponsor of savingcountrymusic.com! This is very exciting for me, that a label that I have been following for years and that has such […]

Johny Wrong’s Hootenanny (part 2-Wayne & Joe)

Last up at The Mesa Theater was Wayne “The Train” Hancock, and then the after-party with Joe Buck playing at Quncy’s down the street. Even though there had been three stellar bands playing before without one electric bass between them, when Wayne Hancock walked out and started doing his thing, you could tell why he […]

Johny Wrong’s Hootenanny (part 1-Mad Max)

On Sunday night (7-12-09) I was giddy as a schoolgirl in anticipation of watching Wayne “The Train” Hancock and Joe Buck on the same night in Grand Junction, CO, but I had no idea that I was walking into “Johny Wrong’s 1st Annual Honky Tonk Hootenanny” featuring a total of FIVE bands, all with the […]

Bucket City Brings You The Music

We talk about the artists in insurgent country all the time, but I also like to pull the curtain back and give props to the behind the scenes people who work their arses off, lot’s of times for moderate pay if any pay at all, to help bring the music to you. People like Hank […]

The Triggerman is On The Move

My heroic dry spell of shows is about to come to an end my friends, because I am hitting the road and bearing down on various ports of call to take in some of the best good ole country music this fine country has to offer! Gas prices? Meh, my plan is to keep the […]
