The 2025 Christmas Country Playlist (UPDATED)

If you’re looking for that perfect Christmas playlist that specializes in country music, and is dedicated to new songs or new versions of old classics released this calendar year, then you’ve come to the right place.
The Saving Country Music Christmas Playlist is excruciatingly curated, focused on not being too schmaltzy, is sentimental in spots, but also isn’t afraid to have a good time. It also happens to be a great way to discover a new artist you’ve never heard before.
The original version of this playlist was published in early December. This is the updated version, adding more recently-released and previously-overlooked tracks.
The 2025 Saving Country Music Christmas Playlist is available on Spotify, YouTube, Amazon, and Apple Music. Find embedded players for your service below, a list of all the songs in the playlist below that, and some recommended Christmas EP and album releases as well.
Happy Holidays from Saving Country Music!

David Nail also released a nice Christmas EP in recent years. A Campfire Christmas. Well worth a listen and hopefully–hopefully–he’s on his way with a new album of original material sometime soon.

while we’re at it with other releases, Hannah Dasher has a cute christmas spoken word thing (whatever you called those 1960’s era country songs with a big spoken section) callled The Christmas Guest.
Leah Slaughter’s Christmas In The Sticks is super good too. Cute song about hunting and tall tales on Christmas. Check her out in general.

I guess I forgot that Christmas Guest was a Johnny Cash thing.
December 24, 2025 @ 7:43 am
The Christmas Guest was first released by Grandpa Jones in 1969. It was a track on the Monument Records various artists compilation “Country Christmas.” Out-of-print and unavailable for decades that album is once again available as a download.

Johnny Cash and Reba McEntire released versions of that recitation on their Christmas albums as did Andy Griffith. But Grandpa Jones rendition backed by the Bill Walker Orchestra remains the best.

Thanks Trigger, and Merry Christmas to everyone, whether you’re naughty or nice.

Apologies for the off topic post, but I thought this was pretty funny and could also make a nice (belated) Christmas gift. The 7 disc Garth Brooks box set is $5.95 on the Bass Pro website!
December 23, 2025 @ 7:29 pm
If you have an Ollie’s Bargain around they’re $2.99 there.
Only difference is the box cover doesn’t have the bass pro logo and the Triple Live inside has a cover from Ireland instead of the Bass Pro show.

I never heard about that, but no doubt the GB organization is monitoring it and will apply for additional platinum certifications, if it sells. It only takes 142,857 unit sales to add another million to Garth’s certified total, since for a 7-disc set, you multiply by box sales by 7, per the rules.
December 23, 2025 @ 11:40 pm
The RIAA and Billboard have rules that limit the ability for deeply discounted albums to chart and be certified. I’m not exactly sure what the threshold is, but I’m sure this would not count since each disc would be under $1. The reason this and his recent Anthology releases are so deeply discounted is because nobody is buying them. The guy just can’t keep from thinking he needs some box set to sell at the Holidays. His core fans have been tapped out for half a decade with this stuff.
December 24, 2025 @ 6:58 am
Years ago, it was widely reported and discussed that his platinum certifications were built up on the rule that each disc in a box set counts as its own unit sale. I they changed or modified the policy, it should be called the Garth Rule, in his honor.

Thanks for this…I’m still rocking one of your recommendations from years back. “Socks” by JD McPherson gets lots of play at our house during Christmas. Just a really fantastic original Christmas album.

Brenda Lee’s Rockin Around The Christmas Tree should be on every Christmas music list. Just saying!!!!!!! 😉
December 23, 2025 @ 11:50 pm
Did you know they recorded Rocking Around the Christmas Tree in July, like most Christmas music. However Brenda who was still a young teenager could not get in the mood to sing about Christmas in July, (There was no Hallmark channel back then) So they turned the air conditioner down as far as they could and Mrs Lee sang the song in a coat. I think this is a true story. But it could be urban legend.

In memoriam of the sadly underrated Chris Rea; add Lee Kernaghan’s country version of Driving Home for Christmas. The aussie does the song justice.
Be kind and take care, good folks. And give old Chris a spin this holiday, he’s so much more than the few huge hits he had. One of the most unpretentious artits we had.

I just realized the only two ‘Christmas Songs’ (quotes because one is from a Christmas special and not specifically a Christmas song) I’ve played multiple times this season are by two different Paul Williams. Paul Williams and the Victory Trio’s ‘I Can’t Go Home This Christmas’ (bluegrass/gospel) and ‘When the River Meets the Sea’, sang by Emmet and Alice Otter by Paul Williams. They’re both nice little ditties about death. I do like the Christmas season but always hated the sappy Christmas music that comes with it.

“Cats in the Christmas Tree” is my favorite new Christmas song this year
