49 Winchester Announces New Album “Leavin’ This Holler”

It’s from the hills and hollers of Appalachia that country music first came into being. And it’s from those same hills and hollers where a new generation of artists have risen to save country music in the modern era. One such outfit is named 49 Winchester after a street address in the small town of Castlewood, Virginia where singer Isaac Gibson, best friend and bassist Chase Chafin, and guitarist Bus Shelton formed the band.
Now 10 years into the game, 49 Winchester have gone from hometown heroes to one of the hottest country and roots bands spanning the globe thanks to the incredibly soulful voice of Mr. Gibson. They’ve been in Europe opening arenas for Luke Combs, in Canada touring with Corb Lund, and will be headlining the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion in TN/VA where the band first found national recognition.
49 Winchester may be blowing up, but they still pride themselves in being local legends. That’s why they chose 4/9 to announce their new album Leaving This Holler out August 2nd via New West Records, and to release their new song “Yearnin’ For You.” It all coincides with Russell County, Virginia declaring April 9th “49 Winchester Day.”

“There’s been nothing in my life that’s ever lasted a decade,” Isaac Gibson says. “It’s a testament to the uncommon fact that we’re musicians from a very specific place in the world. And it’s a testament to viewing each other more as family than as friends.”
That is reflected in the music of 49 Winchester, which often evokes the love they have for their homes and the people there, facilitated in part by their relentless touring schedule that isn’t letting up at all in 2024. Their new song “Yearnin’ For You” speaks to this.
“When I wrote this song, I felt like it really encapsulated what it’s like to be a musician, and more specifically that other side of the coin that fans don’t see as often,” Gibson says. “The people you miss so badly, the sacrifice that it takes to forge out a living. I think more importantly it’s a love song. It’s about reuniting with the one that holds you down, and how great it is to finally be back where you are loved. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
49 Winchester is part of the exclusive field of fast-rising roots artists that are exploding in real time, including the Red Clay Strays, Wyatt Flores, Sierra Ferrell, and others. This is your last chance to get in while the gettin’s good, to see them in an intimate venue, and enjoy the ride as they secure headliner status.

Yesss!!! Man, this just made my day! They just have a sound I love. Then once you see them live, its something else. I’ve never seen anyone other than Jerry Lee Lewis play the keyboard with his foot, was super cool to see Tim Hall doing the same.

I love 49 and have been seein them since the Castlewood High School days. If you think Tim is good, you should see their old keyboard player Donnie. He played all of the keyboards on “three” and “fortune favors the bold” and its weird they never give him credit for taking them to the next level. Love 49 and Love Tim but Donnie changed there sound and made them a band to be reckoned with. Idk.

Don would be proud of his work with the band and think this is a terrible comment

Love these dudes. Go see them!

49 Win is headlining the Peacemaker Festival in October in Fort Smith, AR along with Morgan Wade. I didn’t need to even look at the other acts before going all in on tix, hotel and 9-hour drive. But the rest of the lineup is just as good – Reckless, Josh Meloy, Boland, Taylor Hunnicut, Joe Stamm and more. About the best lineup top to bottom I’ve seen for any fest this year. Cannot wait.

Their new single might be their best song since “Russell County Line”. Great news.

This band has really grown to be one of my favorites. Was a little disappointed by the last album at first, but it’s grown on me. Best combination of traditional country and southern blues rock out there. Excited for the new album.

Great news!
We just saw 49 Winchester in concert two weeks ago and heard “Tulsa” and “Hillbilly Happy.”
It was the 4th time in 11 months we saw 49 Winchester in concert. It was a little bit over kill, but tickets were only $25 ($72 for 2 with fees). I mean, that’s a bargain these days especially for these guys. And it was my first time seeing Colby Acuff who didn’t disappoint.

Saw them a couple years back open for Whiskey Myers in Missoula. What a great band, the new track kicks ass.

Looking forward to this. The new single is dynamite!

Just saw them tonight in Bloomington Indiana. They played several tracks of the new album, all solid. 49 Winchester did not disappoint.

This has been a heck of a couple of weeks for good music.

It’s crazy to see these guys grow into what they’ve become. By sheer chance, I happened to see them in 2015. The best way to describe the experience is that they were very much boys back then, basically fresh out of high school. Over the past decade, they’ve become grown men, and they’ve worked hard as hell for every bit of success that they have, spending years honing their craft in dive joints in towns nobody outside their home region has ever heard of. Like Trigger said, see them now at smaller venues while you can. Headlining slots at amphitheaters and arenas can’t be too far behind!

So excited for the new music! Have been lucky enough to see them live twice and they blew the roof off both times. Looking forward to seeing them open for Tyler Childers in Birmingham next Monday.

Loved their last album and this is one to look forward to. Great song. Looking forward to seeing them on their UK tour, when they are being supported by Drayton Farley. It should be a great show.

Let’s Goooooo!!!

Got my tickets for the lime kiln show in June. I presume there will be a hefty dose of previewing of the new album. They blew the place apart last year.

Saw them open for Tyler last night in Bham and they were great. Played at least 3 new songs, maybe 4. All was really good.

These guys are great. Seen ’em live twice now. Most recently at their sold out gig in DC to a crowed of roughly 1,200 people. Was surprised by how short their set was, though. Hovering around an hour, which seems short for a band with four albums worth of material (and a fifth on the way).
As an aside, regarding the success of independent country music these days, the main independent venue owner and promoter in DC, the highly acclaimed IMP, seems to be booking indie country music with much more frequency lately.
This outfit is primarily known for booking edgy indie rock and hipster music, but they’ve booked 49 Winchester, Charley Crockett, and Silverada (the band formerly known as Mike & The Moonpies) this year, just to name a few. Most indie country acts have had to play off-beat or specialized venues in this city for years, but now they’re starting to get booked at the city’s most popular venues. The tide is turning.
