Randy Rogers Band Announces New Collaborative Album “Songbook”

There aren’t a lot of reasons the release a “Greatest Hits” album these days in the age of streaming. So as the Randy Rogers Band reaches 25 years of playing and recording songs, they’ve cooked up a somewhat novel concept to reflect back on some of their biggest hits in a way that makes for something new.
Called Songbook, the album takes 15 of their most career-defining songs as a preeminent headliner in the Texas/Red Dirt country scene, and finds the band collaborating with artists big and up-and-coming, many of which they had a significant influence on. This includes the Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks, Parker McCollum, Jake Worthington, Kaitlin Butts, William Beckmann, and Flatland Cavalry.
But there are also a couple of established country artists lending their name to the project, including Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, and Sunny Sweeney. It really is a pretty all-star affair, and a cause for celebration with the Texas influence on country music being the centerpiece.
“I can honestly say my heart is full of gratitude,” Randy Rogers says. “When our manager, Enzo, originally had this idea, there was some pushback. I thought, ‘I’m not dead yet—why do this?’ But after we got into the studio and I heard the stories from my friends about how our band played a role in their own journeys, I quickly understood. This wasn’t just about our band. It was about all of us. It was about the songs, and how far and wide they can reach—and the impact they can have on people’s lives.”

Though many other artists and bands from Texas have gone on to great success like Cody Jinks, Koe Wetzel, and Parker McCollum, it was really the Randy Rogers Band that presented the business model of being based in Texas, leaning into the Texas music sound, and still finding strong success, including outside of the state. It’s songs like “Kiss Me In The Dark” that expanded the Texas/Red Dirt radio and touring format well into the Midwest and beyond.
Ahead of the album, Randy Rogers Band will release their version of “Tommy Jackson” with Parker McCollum.
“When Parker selected ‘Tommy Jackson,’ I wasn’t surprised one bit. He’s told me several times over the years how much he dug this song. Story songs are hard to write, and I wrote this one after a chance meeting with Bill Whitbeck, Robert Earl Keen’s bass player, at Fritz’s Muffler Shop in San Marcos, Texas, when I was a student at Texas State University. I had seen REK at Luckenbach the night before, and I walked away completely inspired to make music my life. All these years later, having Parker cut this song feels like a full-circle moment—not just for me, but for all of us in this genre,” explains Rogers.
Songbook is now available for pre-save.

RRB is one group I have never had a chance to see live nor have I gotten into too much for whatever reason. But they are a staple of the Texas Scene. All that said, just a few weeks ago a friend and I danced to their song Buy Myself A Chance a church celebration. So now their music will have a special memory for me.
