Randy Rogers Band Announces New Collaborative Album “Songbook”

There aren’t a lot of reasons the release a “Greatest Hits” album these days in the age of streaming. So as the Randy Rogers Band reaches 25 years of playing and recording songs, they’ve cooked up a somewhat novel concept to reflect back on some of their biggest hits in a way that makes for something new.
Called Songbook, the album takes 15 of their most career-defining songs as a preeminent headliner in the Texas/Red Dirt country scene, and finds the band collaborating with artists big and up-and-coming, many of which they had a significant influence on. This includes the Turnpike Troubadours, Cody Jinks, Parker McCollum, Jake Worthington, Kaitlin Butts, William Beckmann, and Flatland Cavalry.
But there are also a couple of established country artists lending their name to the project, including Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, Gary Allan, and Sunny Sweeney. It really is a pretty all-star affair, and a cause for celebration with the Texas influence on country music being the centerpiece.
“I can honestly say my heart is full of gratitude,” Randy Rogers says. “When our manager, Enzo, originally had this idea, there was some pushback. I thought, ‘I’m not dead yet—why do this?’ But after we got into the studio and I heard the stories from my friends about how our band played a role in their own journeys, I quickly understood. This wasn’t just about our band. It was about all of us. It was about the songs, and how far and wide they can reach—and the impact they can have on people’s lives.”

Though many other artists and bands from Texas have gone on to great success like Cody Jinks, Koe Wetzel, and Parker McCollum, it was really the Randy Rogers Band that presented the business model of being based in Texas, leaning into the Texas music sound, and still finding strong success, including outside of the state. It’s songs like “Kiss Me In The Dark” that expanded the Texas/Red Dirt radio and touring format well into the Midwest and beyond.
Ahead of the album, Randy Rogers Band will release their version of “Tommy Jackson” with Parker McCollum.
“When Parker selected ‘Tommy Jackson,’ I wasn’t surprised one bit. He’s told me several times over the years how much he dug this song. Story songs are hard to write, and I wrote this one after a chance meeting with Bill Whitbeck, Robert Earl Keen’s bass player, at Fritz’s Muffler Shop in San Marcos, Texas, when I was a student at Texas State University. I had seen REK at Luckenbach the night before, and I walked away completely inspired to make music my life. All these years later, having Parker cut this song feels like a full-circle moment—not just for me, but for all of us in this genre,” explains Rogers.
Songbook is now available for pre-save.

RRB is one group I have never had a chance to see live nor have I gotten into too much for whatever reason. But they are a staple of the Texas Scene. All that said, just a few weeks ago a friend and I danced to their song Buy Myself A Chance a church celebration. So now their music will have a special memory for me.

Great way to ruin their best songs

This looks awesome. It also seems very similar to Brooks & Dunn’s “Reboot” album, but with a more cohesive and tighter knit group of artists. I thought “Reboot” turned out great by the way, so I have very high hopes for this album.

Where the musical ego of man and Daddy’s money never dies. He is big in our college town at the free beer events.

I like this idea. A new spin on iconic songs is always interesting.
I could listen to the instrumental arrangement of “In My Arms Instead” on a freaking loop.

I like them doing this, but would have chose a few different songs, but that is just my opinion.
I think what would be cool is to line all the artists up who are gunna be a part of it, randomly draw an order and then let them pick a song from your catalog in that order, then cut the album. I think it would be interesting to see what songs other artists would pick if given a choice with no restrictions.

I saw RRB in Nashville years ago on a bill with Rodney Crowell, Cross Canadian Ragweed, and Stoney Larue. What a great show. Radney Foster, who had produced the Just A Matter Of Time album, was wandering around in the crowd. I would have liked to see the band rerecord “Kiss Me In The Dark” with Rad (who co-wrote the song).

I was at that Nashville show. it was at City Hall, it’s since closed. Hank Jr, somehow found his way there & Lee Ann Womack, drinkin’ a up of something & her flyin a bird to Cody Canada. haha It was an awesome show!

Yes! Hank was backstage with his gate keeper; I missed Womack and the bird…lol. It was a killer show. City Hall is correct. I couldn’t remember the name of the venue!

This should be really cool. All of these songs are great but the only one missing for me is “Damn the Rain.” Most interested to see what Gary Allan brings to ”Fuzzy” and actually a little surprised Stoney isn’t a part of this.

Randy Rogers is the ‘Tribute to a Legend’ artist at Musicfest 2027. Isn’t this just trying to capitalize on that in advance? And doesn’t it kind of spoil it?

Cool project. I remember Rollercoaster was groundbreaking for me as a fan at that time. A third of those are McConnell co-writes. Would think he should be featured.

That album is one of those genre defining albums in the Texas scene. I wish Randy would have done two of these, one from rollercoaster backwards and then another one with everything after rollercoaster. So many of those early songs were so good, not near enough of them on this album.
