After Playing Full Show, Zach Top Refunds Tickets Due to Illness

There’s a reason Zach Top is the reigning Saving Country Music Artist of the Year, and it’s not just for his music. To achieve such an accolade, you have to be the full package, including displaying the type of personal character that we’d like to think our favorite country performers live up to.
Last Thursday evening (2-13), Zach Top displayed that kind of character. He was performing at the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson. Though Zach Top was clearly ill from whatever is currently going around, he soldiered through the performance and played his entire set. Attendees said they could tell he wasn’t 100%, but were still happy to see him anyway, and appreciated that he didn’t cancel on them.
Nonetheless, you could understand how some might be disappointed as Zach struggled to get out his signature yodels and moans. It turns out, Zach Top was disappointed too. So near the end of the set, Zach addressed the elephant in the room.
“We’re gonna get it sorted out. We’re gonna get your money back for tonight’s show, because this isn’t what kind of show I want to put on,” Zach Top told the crowd. “Thank you so much for coming out here, and for making us feel like a million dollars.”
Then Top went on to say, “This is all I ever wanted to do ever since I was a little kid. And y’all are the reason I get to do this. So if I can’t do it to 100% of my ability, it ain’t good enough for me. So we’ll get you all your money back.”
This was met from cheers of appreciation from the audience.
It was announced this week that Zach Top will be opening select shows for Dierks Bentley to go along with his own sold-out shows in 2025. Top also recently admitted that they underestimated demand for his tickets for early 2025 shows, and they are planning more shows for the latter half of the year, including in some small arenas so everyone gets an opportunity to see him.
It’s onward and upward for Zach Top.

This is why Jelly Roll and Morgan Wallen are the kings of Country. Even if they are sick to the point of needing to be on medication – the sound coming thru the mains to the audience is going to sound EXACTLY like the record.

I hope this is satire because wallens solution (admittedly he’s fully in his rights to do so) is bail on his audience sometimes even at the last minute

I’m also the real George Strait

I’m pretty sure it was more a comment on them lip synching, and thus not ever having to worry about how an ilness affects their vocal ability.

What are you talking about!? ‘Exactly like the record” not even if they aren’t sick!
February 19, 2025 @ 7:57 am
Kings of country? Really?
February 18, 2025 @ 9:33 am
I guess I understand, but in 2025 it seems like Dierks should be opening for Zach, and not the other way around.

Stand up dude doing a stand up thing. Here’s a guy turning out music that clearly resonates with his audience and then showing that audience respect and consideration … man, we got some novel concepts going on here, folks! Props to you, Zach – wishing you much success to come.

Is he making refunds available by choice or is it automatic? I would be if it’s by choice very few will take it.

The Zach Billy Strings ep is fire. Speaking of Billy, he just played 6 sold out nights in Asheville. No repeats. 154 songs over 12 sets. That is stuff of legend.

Yeah I saw Billy in December here in Austin. When I went to look at Setlist.com to see what he had been playing in the shows running up to then. My jaw hit the floor- its not that he doesn’t play the same set twice. He wasn’t play the same song twice even other than a handful of favorites. Pretty wild his band can keep up-

I hope I can grab a ticket to a fairly close show sometime. Bought his album and it is one of my favorites. As someone who grew up on 90’s country, it really hits!

Ryan Bingham should take a lesson. One time went to see him and he played one song, said he was too hungover, walked off stage and kept our money. Total disbelief when they turned the lights on to get us out after maybe 8 minutes of playing.

This sounds very admirable, but having promoted and sponsored shows before, I have to wonder about all the expenses of a show. Is he going to pick up those costs? He’ll have to pay the band and crew himself. The venue may have made their money on alcohol sales and sponsors may call it even since they did get their advertising out, but there are lots of other folks that may need to be paid. Not criticizing, I think he and his music are great. Just curious.

He played the show. Wasnt happy with the performance, and wants to do something for the fans. Everyone else already got paid.
February 19, 2025 @ 2:42 pm
Yes, there is no reason to believe anyone had to work for free that night except for Zach Top. And at this point in his career, he’s so in the make, it’s basically a business expense. Better to do that than give people the wrong impression as you’re coming up.
