Billy Strings Adds New Dates to Busy 2023 Tour
The reigning Saving Country Music Artist of the Year is also making a bid in 2023 for being one of the hardest working performers of the year. Far from resting on his laurels now that he’s made it to the arena level in multiple markets, Billy Strings is keeping his foot on the pedal by releasing a slew on new tour dates heading all the way into December.
Already selling out the majority of the dates he plays—and is so popular he’s having to play multiple dates in certain markets just to satisfy demand—Billy Strings might challenge some of the biggest pop stars in 2023 when it comes to overall tickets sold. Now he will be hitting up the West Coast in September and October, the Midwest in late October, and then will be in the Northeast and the rust belt in December.
And look alive Europe, because Billy Strings will be there the entire month of November, playing in the Netherlands, UK, France, Denmark, Belgium, and Luxembourg before returning home.
Billy Strings got to this level not by selling out, but in many respects, doubling down on his bluegrass roots, including his latest album Me / and / Dad comprised of traditional country and bluegrass songs, recorded with his dad.
But Billy’s appeal in the jam band realm has also opened up an entirely different audience to bluegrass music, and there is definitely a Grateful Dead aspect to his fandom of folks following him all around the country to see him play that has helped bolster his audience. But ultimately, this is bluegrass—an elemental building block to true country music—finding an arena-level appeal.
Presale access is available now at billystrings.com/tour, with the general sale for all the new dates starting on Friday, April 28th.

Apparently he is competing with some band called Goose to wear the jam band crown. So I am told.

GOOOOOOSE!
I got to see Billy in March in Atlanta and was blown away. He and the band seem to be handling the transition to an arena act pretty well. Also saw Goose in October and it might have been the best concert I’ve ever been to. I’m not a jam band guy, but those are two acts I’ll make an effort to go see anytime they are nearby.

My jam band friends talk about Goose but I’ve never given them a listen. Kind of curious to check them out now. Can you tell me what date that show was? You’re giving some pretty high praise! They have 12 shows loaded on Nugs from Oct ’22. Thanks

10/1/22. They released the whole concert on their YouTube page. Outside of Nugs, that’s your best bet. They constantly post whole shows, and some of their best clips almost every week. All of their live stuff on Spotify is very good, but Alive and Well (2019 live compilation) or their NYE show from this year are both good starting points.
If you’re into country, check out their acoustic side project, Orebolo, also on Spotify, YouTube, and Nugs. Two guitars and upright bass/cello playing stripped back versions of Goose songs.
They’re incredible musicians, and they’re not as far out there and some other jam bands, and they actually write good songs, which i don’t think is always the case with jam bands.
Hope you enjoy!

I’m still bitter he ended BillyWeen in Asheville as last years Halloween show was one of the best shows I ever saw live

Yeah, I’m moving to Asheville in a month and was hoping he would be doing the Halloween show there again. His Red Rocks and Mission Ballroom shows will probably be the last live shows I see here in CO before the move, but planning on trips back for the Red Rocks shows; hopefully most every year in the future. But was super bummed when I saw he didn’t have Asheville on the tour.

This is impressive. But Trigger, I would like to point out that jam band fans have been into bluegrass long before Billy Strings came along, just maybe bluegrass didn’t always have the reach that it does now. In Kentucky, there have ALWAYS been “old hippies”/Phish/Grateful Dead fans jamming at traditional bluegrass shows.

Yes, we are currently doing some back end work on the website, and certain features like the “likes” and news crawl are currently not available as we update them. They should return soon.

Man I wish he would play the Gorge, Edgefield or somewhere in Central Oregon instead of Moda for his Oregon dates. I won’t ever go there to see a concert again. Portland is such a shithole now.

I really need to sit down and listen to him. What I have, I just haven’t been that impressed but maybe I’m just missing something. Closest he is getting to me is Louisville but due to funds, kind of staying away from big shows right now.

They’re worth every penny and then some. Best live shows I’ve ever been to. The energy and well-done improv (not noodley) are something to behold, coming from a distinctly non jam band person. See if you can find a video of Pyramid Country into Ole Slewfoot from Under the Big Sky in 2021.
Also – I found it took a couple listens and good audio to fully appreciate the massive level of skill on display on his records. Lots of nuance, especially the mandolin.

Really looking forward to his Austin shows! Was talking with some friends at Old Settlers Festival last weekend, and as an older generation we are thankful for Billy Strings bringing good music to a new younger audience that normally has so pretty lousy music choices. There is hope-

Honestly, there is nothing out there right now, like a Billy Strings show..
It just feels good.
Seen him 5 times. Have tickets to 4 shows on this tour. Vermont x2, Boston, Maine.
I’m in TX for 2 mos. Probably going to get tix to the Austin show.
Wife is right there with me too. My wife is not a jam band fan at all, but she loves BMFS.

Billy Stings in Austin last nite, absolutely FIRE.
Billy Strings to blue grass is what Bob Marley was to reggae, what Miles Davis was to jazz, what Stevie Ray Vaughan was to the blues, what Jimmi Hendrix was to rock guitar, what Metallica was to metal. You get the idea.
For the sixth time last nite I had the pleasure of watching what is an Icon in the making. For the sixth time I walked away completely blown away and happy. Truly in the moment happy. Powerful stuff.
BMFS Indeed!
