Blackberry Smoke Featured Prominently in Paramount’s “Yellowstone”
We already knew that producers of Paramount Network’s original series Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner had good taste in music from the inaugural season of the show, which featured the music of Whitey Morgan & the 78’s, Billy Joe Shaver, Chris Stapleton, The Trishas, and others, and actually had Texas country’s Southern rock outfit Whiskey Myers performing live in one of the episodes. Ryan Bingham also appears in the series. But they are doubling down in Season 2, and Blackberry Smoke is set up to be one of the big beneficiaries with a bunch of songs being placed throughout the new season.
Debuting Wednesday night (6-19), Blackberry Smoke will have two songs in the season’s first episode—“What Comes Naturally” from their 2016 album Like an Arrow, and “Ain’t Much Left of Me” from 2012’s The Whipoorwhill. They will be two of eight total songs appearing throughout the second season of the series, with three songs showing up in the fifth episode alone (see master list below).
“As fans of Yellowstone, we have been engaged with the storyline since the show began,” Blackberry Smoke frontman, singer, guitarist, and songwriter Charlie Starr tells Saving Country Music. “What Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Costner and their whole team have created is fantastic and we’re humbled to have Blackberry Smoke’s music be such a big part of season 2. We will be tuned in with everyone to see, and hear, it all unfold at the ranch.”
Yellowstone centers around the famous American National Park and the conflicts that arise between the shared borders of a large cattle ranch, an Indian reservation, land developers, and the park itself. It was created by Taylor Sheridan who is originally from Texas, and made a name developing Sons of Anarchy, as well as the movie Hell or High Water, both of which featured lots of independent and classic country music as well. Sheridan is given credit for revitalizing the modern Western.
Blackberry Smoke is currently in Europe at the moment supporting Lynyrd Skynyrd on their farewell tour and playing their own solo shows. The band shocked the world when in 2015 their record Holding All The Roses went #1 on the Billboard Country Charts—the first independently-released record to do so in the modern era. Their 2016 record Like An Arrow also went #1, as did their most recent effort, 2018’s Find a Light when factoring in pure album sales. With loyal fans built from both energetic live shows and quality songwriting, Blackberry Smoke represents some of the best in today’s Southern Rock and independent country.
Be listening for the Blackberry Smoke songs in the new Yellowstone season, as well as additional songs from Whiskey Myers that have been promised, and who knows who else that will show up in the series that country radio continues to ignore, but fans immediately connect to when they hear. New episodes air each Wednesday on the Paramount Network throughout the summer.

Nice. Congrats to the band. I personally love this show, despite knowing full well how over-the-top cheesy it frequently gets. Tyler Sheridan is the man, though. Sicario, Hell or High Water (great soundtrack), and Wind River are all excellent films.
Mike & The Moonpies deserve a spot on this show now, right? What with “You Look Good In Neon” being directly inspired by dialogue from the show. Mike has mentioned this in multiple interviews now.

I watch the show. It’s a bit campy, but the music and Dodge Trucks excite me. Good for Blackberry Smoke.

Yeah, crazy that there is no mention of Ryan Bingham’s music that was played during season one. Not to mention him as a character in the show.

Oh jeez, always with the “forgot to mention _______” comments. Bingham was mentioned in the article posted about season 1 that is linked in this article. Just added a mention of him here as well to quell the conspiracy theories. This is a big opportunity for Blackberry Smoke, and that was the focus of this particular article. No offense was meant to anyone else.

“Ryan Bingham also appears in the series.”
That had to take some time to come up with….

lol.
Look, this was about Blackberry Smoke and their opportunity. Did the same in a dedicated manner for Whiskey Myers last year. Also did a recap about halfway through the season of all the country music tie-in’s in 2018, and I’ll probably do that this year too. But this is a big opportunity for Blackberry, and I didn’t want to drone on and bury the lead.

Don’t you think Bingham’s character gets killed off early this season? He’s been teasing it on social media for some time.

Not a huge fan of Ryan Bingham’s music, but thought he was outstanding on Season I as an actor.

I don’t know if there is a resurgence of “southern rock” or simply a carrying-on of the torch by newer groups. But Blackberry Smoke and The Steel Woods are representing that sub-genre very well. My early teenage years were Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Charlie Daniels Band, etc.
Then I segued into Alabama, Hank Jr., and Waylon Jennings. That was the door for me to further enter the country music genre with the likes of Travis Tritt and Dwight Yoakam. Then I firmly planted myself in Don Williams.
Anyway, that was my path. Long live Southern Rock.

I’m guessing Sunny Sweeney too. That’s just a guess. Someone can correct me. It’s the scene when they return to the bar and let the bull loose in it.

It was Lainey Wilson with “Workin Overtime”.

And as soon as their song ended the next scene in the bunkhouse had a picture of Miranda Lambert on the back of the door. Kinda funny.

I missed that! Lol! It was a kind of odd placed song for a barroom brawl.
Do you know what song was playing (woman vocals) when they returned to the bar with the bull?
