Bob Seger Re-Ups Sunny Sweeney as Farewell Tour Opener
The good news for independent Texas country artist Sunny Sweeney continues, as once again she will be the recipient of some big opportunities opening for arena audiences as part of Bob Seger’s farewell tour. The Saving Country Music Song of the Year winner for 2017 was first added to four shows on the Bob Seger “Final Tour” opening in Albuquerque, Austin, Frisco (near Dallas), and Bossier City in early March. She did so well, she was later added to Florida shows in Tampa and Ft. Lauderdale.
Now Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band have added Sunny Sweeney to five additional shows starting April 30th in Springfield, Missouri, then on to May 2nd in The Woodlands near Houston, May 4th in Tulsa, Oklahoma, May 10th in Charleston, South Carolina, and May 12th in Jacksonville, Florida. She’s also added additional shows around the new Bob Seger dates. Among other reasons to be paying attention to Sunny Sweeney, she is quickly proving herself as one of country music’s most dedicated road dogs willing to put in the time and effort to build a fan base beyond the reach of corporate radio.
“I love getting to do what I do. Excited to join Bob Seger on another run in May!” Sunny said about the new dates. Sunny has also opened numerous dates for Garth Brooks at big venues before. Once signed to Big Machine Records as one of the label’s very first artists, Sunny Sweeny didn’t fit the Nashville mold just right, eventually venturing back to Texas, and releasing the well-received Trophy in 2017. Now she’s part of the independent country scene regularly touring and collaborating with the likes of Cody Jinks, Whitey Morgan, Ward Davis, and Tennessee Jet.
Previous dates Sunny had booked at Mama Tried Deep Ellum in Dallas, and at Luckenbach have been moved to June to facilitate opening the Bob Seger dates. Find all of Sunny Sweeney tour dates below.

That’s great, good for her!
I really like her record, Trophy. Her songs, Pass The Pain & Bottle by My Bed get repeat plays when I play her record.

I had to see her 3 times when she toured with Cody jinks to really appreciate what she does. Maybe whatever it is for me is also why she’s not caught on and I can’t really say why that was, but she sure wore on me. Love her authenticity.

Hey Trig,
Just wanted to drop a comment and recommend checking out the new single ‘Rhinestones’ by Charlie Marie. No full album releases yet but would highly encourage you to check it out, she’s got an incredibly promising future! I know it’s for sure on Spotify, not sure where else it currently lives.

Thanks for the suggestion. She has a great voice; very unique, strong.
The single is also on Amazon Unlimited Music.
She also has a self titled record on there that states from 2015. I will be checking that out now too.

Good for Sunny!! Playing a small intimate bar an hour and half away in bumble fuck Illinois Thursday night but I’m going to do my best to get out there if it’s the whole band.
On an off topic note I just found out about KXTR 101.3 “The Outlaw” radio station out of Springfield, Missouri and it’s a great station! Mostly good tunes no Pop shit. Been listening a lot on the phone app even though I’m not a radio guy….lol Don’t know if anyone on here ever talked about it? Maybe I missed that thread? I’m wondering if there’s others like it?

It’s a good enough station, sometimes can get a bit repetitive…but definitely better than most..other only radio I listened to when I lived in that part of the world, the morning guy does a great job w/ local artist promotion too..

Okay, JB-C, where is this bar, and what’s the name? I’m from the Peoria area(Pekin), I could be up for a road trip to see Sunny.

Never mind, Freeport it is. Your description of the town is spot on.

Yes, it’s 88 miles door to door from my suburb. (1.5 hours) What absolutely aggravates me is why(like Cody) she doesn’t book a proper Chicago show. She played this Freeport joint awhile back as well on a Wednesday night. WTF??Maybe she’s friends with the owners etc?…. That being said I pissed and moaned the whole drive when I went to see Sarah in Lasalle and it one of the best most intimate shows I’ve ever witnessed. If I have to work Friday I won’t be making this trip though.
If you feel like road trippin on July 3 it was just announced Sarah Shook and The Disarmers will be playing FitzGerald’s 38th American Music Festival. This 3 day fest is the kind of thing Sunny should be doing as well. Nothing wrong with opening for Bob Seger as we all know.

It you get a chance to see Bob seger in the next couple weeks, please do it. I wasn’t even a fan when I saw him in 95, and, to this day, it was still the best concert I have ever seen.

First concert I ever went to in 1975 when I was 14. Blue Oyster Cult, Rory Gallagher, and Bob Seger opened the show. A life changing event for me for sure, watching Bob ascend to stardom over those years was great. I’ve seen him many times over the years. He’s true pro. Total respect for him taking Sunny out, I’m sure she’s loving it night after night. Not to mention it pays well…lol. We love you Sunny!

The first time I saw Bob Seger at the Hollywood Florida sportatorium December 10th 1977 he had a new band open for him three guys walked out on stage and started jamming and I thought this band’s going places. Their name was Rush. Seeger has consistently brought new ax or relatively new acts on stage to open for him knowing the deuce he had to pay to get to that place that Turn the Page finally got to for him and SBB…. he’s always been there to lift up the next generation the next great thing and give his fans a taste of the music we should not be missing i.e., Sunny Sweeny. May 23rd Bob Seger concert at Fort Lauderdale in March for his farewell tour truly what is a mixed experience I knew every note I knew every word I knew every fist pump, and at the end of the show I felt like I have been punched in the gut I’m going to miss Bob’s concerts as much as I would miss my best friend who moved away. and I’m going to miss meeting new acts like Rush, and Sunny Sweeney. But she has a new fan for sure.

The tour schedules these musicians maintain are difficult at best.
That much driving, road food, motel, and then perform with feeling and enthusiasm.
Dedication.

Difficult is an understatement. When she played here for her Dysfunctional Family Christmas show in December with Brennen Leigh, and Ward Davis. She told us (all 30 of us) they had driven 12 hours in a van from the last show “just to be here on a Wednesday night”. I was so sad that the woman that put out the masterpiece “Trophy” was relegated to end up in this situation, while others…….cough cough….Morris, Ballerini etc…. get accolades?? 🙁

Talk about irony, I guess she had transmission problems here in the last 2 days and had a merch sale to cover the cost. I bought a few things and a ticket for the show. I’m Freeport bound!!! Glad to see she had fun by the Chicago Bean. in the Windy City. 🙂

I just saw Seger in Pittsburgh last night. Great show. He can’t hit all the notes anymore, but it doesn’t matter. A true pro, a great performer, and one of the best songwriters of all time. He played over 20 songs and you could still put together another set list of 20 great songs that he didn’t play. I really wanted to hear You’ll Accompany Me and the Live Bullet version of Travelin’ Man / Beautiful Loser. He played them both, so I went away a happy man. My wife was unsure how much of his catalog she would know. He only played a couple newer songs and covers, so she knew 90% of the songs. It’s a bit sad to see him ride off into the sunset, but at 74, with over 50 years of touring, he has laid down a legacy that is unmatched. Seger is just the best.
