Charley Crockett Reveals 2nd Chapter of Album Trilogy, “Dollar A Day”

He’s one of the hardest working men in country music, and he’s proving that once again in 2025. Set for August 8th, Charley Crockett will release his latest album, the second so far in 2025, and the second in what he’s calling The Sagebrush Trilogy. It’s titled Dollar A Day, and just like Lonesome Drifter released on March 14th, it’s co-produced with Shooter Jennings, and recorded at the Sunset Sound Studio 3 in Hollywood, CA.
“With Shooter, I’ve never felt more like myself in the studio,” Crockett says. “I don’t feel judged. At all. It’s truly a partnership. Hell, I’d say he’s my best friend, and you can’t aspire to greatness without that kind of trust. With ‘Lonesome Drifter,’ it felt like we opened the portal. With ‘Dollar A Day,’ we stepped through and came out the other side.”
It wasn’t a hit single or record that landed Charley Crockett where he is today, and it most certainly didn’t happen overnight. Through sweat equity and dogged persistence, Charley Crockett has built one of the most momentous and fortified music careers brick by brick. It started on street corners, took him to a Rodeo Houston headliner spot earlier this year, and will end up in arenas later this summer.

The announcement of the new album comes as Charley Crockett continues to be on a roll. It will be his second album on Island Records, and comes on the heels of a big appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience (more on that soon), which will likely goose his name recognition. Crockett also recently had a big performance at Red Rocks with his name in lights behind him, as well as a marquee performance in Whitefish, Montana at the Big Mountain Ranch for the Indian Relay Races.
Crockett will be moving into the arena realm come August and September as he pairs with Leon Bridges for the “Crooner and the Cowboy Tour.” He recently brought his management completely in-house, and looks to be getting poised to move into arenas all on his own by 2026. He was also recently nominated for both Artist of the Year and Album of the Year by the Americana Music Awards.
The new Charley Crockett song “Crucified Son” will be out July 3rd. Dollar A Day is now available for presave/preorder. You can see an album preview below.

Any idea whether All Around Cowboy is an original or a cover of the Marty Robbins tune? I’ve liked pretty much all the covers that Charley has done in the past.

It’s likely a cover. I saw a youtube video awhile back of him performing it in concert and was wondering if it’d ever make an album. His latest album is really strong, and I’m excited the second installment is being released so soon after.

I really enjoy the Johnny Cash version.

‘All around Cowboy’ was done by Waylon in the movie McIntosh and TJ, 1974, Noy sure it is the same song , but if it is that would be great. I’m sure Shooter was familiar with it. Hope it’s the same it’s a great song and great Movie. And BTW it was Roy Rogers last movie, Filmed in West Texas on the 6666 Ranch and surrounding towns.

Big whoop.

This is an awesome surprise!
The musical gold mine that is Charley Crockett continues to yield riches.
Lonesome Drifter ranks with Matt Daniel’s The Poet as my #1 favorite this year thus far, and last year’s $10 Cowboy was my definite #1. And although I feel Visions of Dallas was a notch below these other two LPs, I remain very, very impressed with this unique entertainer’s quality control since his superb Waco album.

Is it an exaggeration to call him a genius?

That cover is great!

What an output. My only complaint is my wallet especially after signing for a big label the price of his vinyl releases has went up from £20 or less to £30 +
May have to revert to CD’s.

I thought the $10 Cowboy albums were much better than this last one. They sounded much more alive to me. Shooter continues to be a mixed bag producer.

New Lukas Nelson album by Shooter is a bit of a bore, too, sadly. Nelson is so talented. I’m curious for this site’s review of that record.

That Rogan episode was huge. I knew some of CC’s story, but definitely not all of it. The stories on his relationships with Willie and Shooter, and how he sees his career/life trajectory were really cool. Great listen.

It was a good interview, which does always happen with Rogan and musical guests. I was on the road when it dropped so Iwanted to devote my full attention to it, especially the Willie and Waylon / Colter and Charley stuff that deserves some exploring. Hope to have something up about it soon.

I’d quite like to hear a long form interview with CC, but I lose brain cells every time I listen to Rogan.

It really only comes off the rails for a few minutes at the very end because Charley mentions having a piece of jewelry or something with the Eye of Horus on it, which prompts Joe to launch into a 10 minute pineal gland, DMT, and ancient aliens discussion.
Otherwise, it’s mostly Charley leading the dance for 2.5 hours. Minimal politics and/or bullshit past the small talk opening up the pod.
I’d recommend it, but I’m sure Trig’s write up will do it justice too.

He is prolific. Not many release 2 albums a year. His albums are always worth a listen. I look forward to this one.

Not to be snide but this’ll probably be another Charley Crockett album I’ll listen to for a day then forget about forever.

Something a bit fabricated in everything he does — I mean, he’s leaning into a persona, obviously; you can find the old videos of his more hip-hop stuff online. And it’s fine to (re)create yourself, but a bit of an unpostured edge — some undotted ‘i’s and uncrossed ‘t’s — could go way towards grounding his whole art.

Charley talks at length in his recent interview with Joe Rogan about his time performing in New York subways, and how critics attempt to use it as a “gotcha” moment. He was a young homeless street performer trying to find himself. I don’t think it’s ever been fair trying to hold that over his head.

Did anyone ever criticize Ian Tyson for spending years in NYC? Doubtful.
Ole Charlie isn’t as traditionally Western in the same sense as Ian Tyson, but he’s original nonetheless.

Charlatan Crockett

It is cosplay.
As Boland once said, “They all fake it on some level.”
July 2, 2025 @ 11:54 am
They should be we.
My apologies for the error.

Well for me i hope this is like how visions of dallas was to ten dollar cowboy. I thought ten dollar cowboy was really good i thought visions of dallas was great. I think lonesome drifter is good but weaker than previous two. So hopefully this one really steps it up. If not, i may not have the same confidence in shooter that charley does.

Charley C is so prolific and yet the quality seems always to be right up there. Really, really glad I caught him live on his tour Down Under last year! Fantastic performer!
