Chris Stapleton Releases New Tour Dates w/ Aubrie Sellers
After selling out all of his tour dates in February, playing to packed rooms in Europe in March, selling out every one of his dates in April, and most all of his dates sold to capacity this summer, Chris Stapleton has added some new tour dates in May and September to help keep up with demand. Many of the tickets will go on sale Friday, March 18th, and if history holds form, they will sell out immediately, or close to it.
Stapleton just wrapped up touring on the “C2C” Country To Country tour in the U.K. and Ireland where he was well received by the European crowd, and he’s also been announced as a performer at the 2016 ACM Awards on April 3rd where he is up for numerous awards, including Album of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, New Male Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year.
Meanwhile Stapleton’s debut album Traveller continues to retain its residency at the top of the country charts from the momentum that started nearly half a year ago when he won big at the CMA Awards. Traveller is regularly beating out the debut numbers from other mainstream artists. Only Joey + Rory’s new album Hymns was able to dethrone Stapleton recently, and Traveller is currently poised to be #1 in country once again next week. The run Stapleton has been on is going from astounding to historic, and if he has more big wins at the ACM’s, who knows when it will stop.

I’m about an hour away from there and tickets are 35.00 and up on Ticketmaster and I’m wondering whether it should be worth it, because I fear he might mix his bro-country stuff with Traveller and SteelDrivers.
Also you know what occurred to me, I don’t know how well that album is selling right now but something tells me that if the momentum keeps going, I might go as far as saying that it might outsell both Shania and Garth (Come on Over and No Fences respectively). But then again I might be pulling it out of my ass.

I don’t think you’ll have to worry about Stapleton mixing his “bro-country stuff” in with the music he normally performs live.

Seeing him live is definitely worth it. I’m planning to try to get tickets to Orange Beach. I got shut out by scalperbots the last 2 times I tried to find tickets to a show. Also, I’ll add that something called Garden and Gun apparently will feature Stapleton, Sturgill, Isbell, etc.

I now have tickets to the Orange Beach show, which is great, since I was planning to visit that area around that time, anyway. I’m also planning to see his old friends the Steeldrivers again at a bluegrass festival in a couple months. I saw both acts last year as openers (CS for Alan Jackson and Steeldrivers for Alabama), so I’m looking forward to seeing them as headliners.

Country to Country Tour – UK – General Review:
I went to the C2C festival in London and overall it was excellent.
Chris Stapleton was very good – I have to say that I prefer his live performance to listening to his CD. He was much better live and better than I expected.
Eric Church was outstanding, best performer over the three days.
I had never listened to Andrew Combs before. He was given the chance to open the final night of the concert in the main arena in front of 15000 to 20000 people and he was excellent. Really enjoyed his performance. He was my second favourite following Eric Church.
Little Big Town are also very good. I do enjoy their harmonies and their music is good. Some of their main singles I am not keen on (Pontoon, Day Drinking) but overall they have very good songs and their albums are good. I know it is not relevant but they also come across as very nice people and I am happy for their success.
Dwight Yoakam and Carrie Underwood were also very good. Maddie & Tae were good.
Sam Hunt was there and I have no idea why as it was a country music festival. However having said that, I enjoyed his performance. He just had two guitar players and a drummer and I found his live performance much more enjoyable than I expected. I do not like his music on the radio but live it was very entertaining. The guitars dominated much more live than they do on his recorded songs and the guitar players were very good. Very energetic performance and got the crowd really going. So even though he is not country, I enjoyed it.
Finally Kacey Musgraves was boring and dull. The phrase ‘if you’ve heard one song, then you’ve heard them all….’ could not be more apt to describe her performance. All her songs sound the same – very little variation in the song structure, lyrical style, the music, the tempo of each song. Eric Church had more tempo variations in his one song Mr. Misunderstood than Musgraves had in her entire 1 hour 20 minute set! And she sings them all in the same monotonous voice. Very little dynamic range in her voice. Very boring – had to try hard to keep myself awake.
Overall a very enjoyable festival stretched over three days with many artists playing in smaller venues around the main arena during the whole day. And a good mix of artists presented from pop country to straight country to rock country – something for everyone.

I think the C2C organizers understand that artists like Stapleton and Musgraves and Eric Churchare going to be the gateways to country music. They were very savvy in putting that together.

Every year the number of artists attending the C2C festival has grown and this year it was the largest yet.
This year they also got the balance right between the various types of country music. Last year the whole thing was dominated by bro-country acts such as Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Jason Aldean, Brantley Gilbert, Sam Hunt, etc…
Therefore I did not attend and I believe overall attendance was down compared to 2014. At least the organisers learnt their lesson for this year and organised a much more varied line up, with more country leaning acts than in previous years.
As I said I did enjoy Sam Hunt’s performance but it was a one off set between Maddie & Tae and Little Big Town. If there were two or three Sam Hunts in a row, I don’t think I could take it and would walk out!

Well, she went from #12 to #4 on the UK Official Americana Albums Chart Top 40. So she must have done something right:

I was lucky enough to see Chris last Friday at Country to Country in Dublin. He was outstanding and should have been given a bigger timeslot to preform instead of 45 mins! He was the main reason I went to it. Been waiting 8 years to see him live.
I thought Kacey Musgraves was excellent and her band are a very tight unit. Eric Church was very good too, he definitely loves what he does for a living though at timds I thought some of the stuff was a bit heavy. The tracks from Mr. Misunderstood were fantastic. Kacey Musgraves was on for the same length of time as Eric Church and he was the headline act.

Trigger, how come Chris’ involvement in Arkansas’ Riverfest festivities not on this list? I’m not sure when it was announced, but the future Mrs. showed me on Facebook and I’m weighing whether or not it’d be worth it to wade through the drunken idiots and smell of garbage and cheap weed to see him or not (this is the only local venue to me I’ve seen so far).
