Colter Wall Announces Very Rare Tour Dates for Late 2023

It is very rare these days that Colter Wall makes live public appearances. Aside from headlining the Dusty Boots Festival in Denver earlier this summer and a performance at Under The Big Sky Fest in Montana to coincide with the release of his new album Little Songs, there has been no significant tour to speak of from Colter since COIVD, even with the new album to tour behind.
Colter Wall still won’t be doing any significant touring in 2023. But he has just announced 10 tour dates spanning October and December later this year, and in relatively intimate 1,500-3,000 capacity venues. Needless to say, demand for tickets will be sky high as some folks will be traveling from out of state to attend these shows. Red Shahan will offer support for all of the dates.
Colter Wall’s late 2023 tour dates include:
October 11 – Columbus, OH – KEMBA Live!
October 13 – Louisville, KY – The Louisville Palace
October 14 – Chicago, IL – The Salt Shed
October 15 – Detroit, MI – The Fillmore
October 18 – Omaha, NE – Steelhouse Omaha
October 20 – Minneapolis, MN – The Fillmore
October 21 – Madison, WI – The Sylvee
December 6 – Dallas, TX – Longhorn Ballroom
December 7 – Dallas, TX – Longhorn Ballroom
December 9 – Durant, OK – Choctaw Casino – Grand Ballroom
Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, August 11th at 10 am, but fans are strongly encouraged to sign up to Colter Wall’s mailing list to get access to pre-sales to begin on Wednesday, August 9th at 10 am local time. Promoter pre-sales will also go live on August 10th at 10 am. These shows will sell out, so if you want to see Colter Wall in the flesh, you must be on top of these dates.
Despite releasing some of the most traditional and obscure cowboy music possible, Colter Wall continues his upward trajectory. The new album Little Songs turned in career numbers for the Canadian Cowboy and Western singer, selling 12,000 equivalent album units in its first week when tabulating both streams and physical sales, putting Colter Wall at #1 on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart, as well as #75 on the all-genre Billboard 200—his best showing to date.
Along with rarely playing live shows, Colter Wall doesn’t speak to the press except in very rare circumstances. He continues to blow off mega podcaster Joe Rogan who has said numerous times he wants him on his show. Instead of going through the conventional channels, Colter Wall relies on the mystique of being an authentic cowboy that sometimes plays music to continue to garner attention via word of mouth.

I’ve always wondered, has he ever said why he tours so infrequently? I thought touring was the main revenue for artists?
August 6, 2023 @ 10:22 am
I just think he likes to be out doing cowboy shit. Yes’s he’s leaving a mint of money on the table not touring. But he does very well with his recorded music as well, easily enough to make a living off of it.

I believe he comes from old money. His dad was a business man and Canada’s version of a Congressman or Senator. I think he (his dad) was involvedin some embezzlement scandal or something and got out of politics. Regardless I don’t think cash or the lime light is what motivates him. He’s a real as it gets and I think this is what draws people to him. We lack authenticity, in art, in politics and even day to day life people seem fake af imo.

Brad (Colter’s dad) Wall was the Premier (like Governor) of Saskatchewan, the province north of east Montana. There was a land deal that had fraud allegations in 2017, but I don’t believe he was ever implicated in that. He had some controversies that you probably wouldn’t care about. He offended Nigerians for making a joke about their scam emails, for instance. He was unusually popular for a Premier in Canadian politics.
October 26, 2023 @ 1:03 pm
Colter’s father is Brad Wall, the former Premier (more like a state governor) of Saskatchewan (the central Canadian prairie province). He was the 4th longest serving premier in the history of the province (11 years) and led the Saskatchewan Party which is closest in many respects to the Republican Party in the US. The Wall family owns a trucking company and is well-off financially. Apparently, Colter runs a cattle business in Swift Current (southern), Saskatchewan (which is where the Wall family lives).
I haven’t yet had the opportunity to see him play live and missed my chance just last year when he toured a few Canadian cities.

He gets revenue from his ranching as well. He’s so genuine.
August 6, 2023 @ 9:19 am
Makes the music he wants. Works on ranches when he wants. Goes on little tours or headlines a festival when he wants. Still does well without jumping at the obligatory publicity if he doesn’t want….
Living the dream?
August 6, 2023 @ 9:39 am
Can’t discount how awesome is that a whole bunch of new folks are gonna hear Red Shahan for the fiirst time, too.
August 6, 2023 @ 11:38 am
Signed up and ready to go. I didn’t think he would be swinging by any time soon, but here we go.
August 6, 2023 @ 12:07 pm
We saw Colter Wall come by the Hi-Dive in Denver and sing a duet with Summer Dean at her show after Dusty Boots. He was hanging out, shaking hands and obliging selfie shots. It was so cool to experience it.
August 6, 2023 @ 2:38 pm
Wish he would tour in Saskatchewan

Colter Wall grew up fairly wealthy and the son of a Canadian Politician. I like some of his music but I have to think he has the luxury of doing whatever he wants coming from a well off family. Not all musicians are have these advantages. Wall does create a “mystique” around him with this career strategy, but fall flat for me personally.
August 6, 2023 @ 3:49 pm
This refrain about Colter Wall’s wealthy political father has been going on for six years now. Colter’s dad, Brad Wall, has come here and explained this away himself in this very comments section multiple times. First, the Wall family is not especially wealthy. Second, Colter Wall has worked his entire life. Third, it has nothing to do with Colter Wall’s success. If anything, it has been a detriment to his success due to sentiments like the ones you shared. Sure, if you come from a strong family, the safety net is stronger for you to pursue occupations like being a musician like Colter Wall did. But it is insignificant to how Colter Wall has taken very traditional cowboy songs and created a very strong market for them out of whole cloth. He’s making a lot of money off of his music, and so he doesn’t have to tour to pay the bills like many musicians.
August 6, 2023 @ 7:31 pm
Trigger, maybe I am misinformed but first I’ll say Politicians are not broke, especially not in America or Canada. No part of you thinks Wall purposefully creates a demand for his shows or appearances by doing very little of them. For me the music is good, but I could do without what I believe is a made up sacristy.

Your full of barnyard waste
August 7, 2023 @ 6:16 am
You have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about

This reminds me of when it was revealed the dude who created Yellowstone came from a family with a dad who was a successful cardiologist and a mom who was from a family of successful ranchers. Sure it changed his working class image many fans had, but it did not take away the fact he grew up in ranches and knew his stuff about how they worked.
August 6, 2023 @ 5:58 pm
Know of Brad Wall from politics since I was born & raised in Manitoba; know Colter Wall as a music fan; never knew of the relation until today. This history would make a JRE podcast even more interesting in my opinion. A premiere of a province is similar to a governor for y’all who don’t know. Interesting duality; recluse rancher and public figure.
August 7, 2023 @ 11:08 am
It’s not a popular sentiment, but I agree: a politicians son from an oil-rich province singing hundred year old songs without any vision for the future just isn’t as good to me as the Childers and Sturgills of the world. Love this last record, can’t stand the obsession with the “I’m authentic” bit. Feels like it comes from Yellowstone viewers more than people who swing a hammer. Looking forward to hearing more.
August 6, 2023 @ 7:59 pm
To think that every country singer or musician comes from a blue collar family, is a joke and then some. That’s like saying every rapper comes from the hood or heavy metal band comes from some low end area.
I bet Colter is highly concerned about anyone’s opinion. Ranching, making unreal music, occasionally touring and just signing to RCA.
August 7, 2023 @ 10:02 am
Colter Wall was an opener a couple of times at shows I went to a few years ago. I went to see him as a headliner and he had the most boring, Lillith Fair caliber Canadian openers that made the whole crowd zone out, and then got pissy nobody was paying attention to them because they weren’t what people came to see. That soured me on him. Then when he threw a fit Garth Brooks played a stadium show in Regina the same day he was playing some folk festival nearby, I wrote him off for good.
August 7, 2023 @ 2:35 pm
He was probably barely old enough to drink when that happened. And anyone can have a bad day. I’ve had some good conversations with Colter on his smoke breaks back in the Imaginary Appalachia days. He’s a genuine good guy.
August 9, 2023 @ 7:23 am
I tend to enjoy a pissy artist when it’s deserved. A fan at a CWG concert last year was repeatedly requesting a song and Charles eventually told him to ‘just enjoy the f&@&@ing show man’, or something to that effect. It got a good laugh and he said it with some jest, but you could tell it was bothering him.
Anyway, if people are interested in the openers, it’s a good idea to be polite and ‘try’ to be enthusiastic, even if you are not, or just come later for the main act. Concerts are only a few hours long. It doesn’t take much to put the phone down and clap along and cheer to a song you’ve never heard before, even if not excited.
August 9, 2023 @ 9:42 am
There’s a difference in my not enjoying an opener and the entire crowd not enjoying it. I always get a kick of out Ward Davis or BJ Barham lighting into an obnoxious fan, but if I pay my money and spend my time coming to your show, I don’t want a lecture on how great your opener was and how mad you are nobody in the crowd liked them.
August 9, 2023 @ 12:55 pm
Hmm, I wasn’t there so hard for me to formulate a meaningful opinion on this.
I saw Whisky Myers open for Time McGraw at Country Jam a couple weeks ago (I know right…) and the crowd was so shitty and oblivious to what was happening on stage, I was praying that Tim would lambast the crowd for being absent and not interested Anyway, I still rocked out and for those that didn’t care or were off it the VIP tent filling their faces, to each their own.
I wasn’t in your shoes so I don’t know how ‘bad’ his openers were or if it was the crowd…. I will take your word for it. Luckily I won’t have that problem in a couple months with Red Shahan.
August 7, 2023 @ 4:14 pm
Not to beat the topic into the ground, but I don’t think anyone is saying Colter Wall is a bad guy, or at least I wasn’t, and again the music is good. I was only suggesting he might have advantages others don’t, and may or may not be fabricating demand that otherwise might not be there, but I am open to discussion on the topic. Like I said I of course could be wrong, it’s only an observation from my end.
August 8, 2023 @ 5:35 pm
I honestly find how much hype he gets for turning down Rogan kind of funny. Maybe it’s my cynicism, but it seems to be that turning Rogan down is a pretty astute calculated move. What’s better publicity than being on the biggest podcast on the planet? Having that podcast gush over how you’re too busy being a cowboy to give him the time of day.
August 9, 2023 @ 7:12 am
I agree that it is calculated. Also, most people would likely be hesitant to give a 3 hour interview. I listened to the Stapleton interview and it was a little awkward at times as he seemed pretty guarded and didn’t really want to open up too much and risk offending anyone. For Colter, there could be a world of reasons beyond a marketing ploy; son of a politician, too busy on ranch, etc etc.
August 10, 2023 @ 7:49 am
I listened to the CS interview on JRE and it really turned me off to him. It pulled back the curtain. The impression I got was that his songs weren’t authentic, just that he learned how to write songs that people liked and that’s what he did. Just seem a little inauthentic and as you said he seemed guarded. It made me think he was just another “radio country” artist, albeit a particularly talented one (which is more than you can say for most).
August 9, 2023 @ 5:00 pm
On Instagram someone said that one of the guys from FGL produced the new record. Any chance those guys will perform with him during this new tour?
Could be a more affordable way to see FL-GA line if they perform at the CW show.
August 9, 2023 @ 6:17 pm
Was at a Party City store this evening in Bloomington and thought, is that Colter Wall?
Sure enough it was Colter Wall, singing over the speakers.
Thought, Wow.
Looks like this guy is making a serious impression.
August 29, 2023 @ 4:17 am
He called out the bullshit during the pandemic. He couldn’t tour just as every other artist couldn’t. He said he’d use that time to ranch, write and record music. He gave one interview podcast early this summer from the seat of his pickup truck in a parking lot in Medicine Hat.
I don’t think you get more genuine than that. Plus ranching probably isn’t easy in the harsh Canadian winters.
He’s already up there with great white north giants like Stomp’n Tom Connors. Amazing! Even Joe Rogan can’t get him on his show, yet! One day, hopefully but if not, he’s navigating his life. Nobody else is and most of us would call that FREEDOM!
October 18, 2023 @ 1:26 am
Thank you so much Colter for bringing real county back to the genre.
I was so disappointed when we went to new country, bubble gum music.
Rocking to and Tyler. ????????????
