Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks Falsely Attacked for Out-of-Context Ukraine Videos

Some of the biggest conservative influencers are in full attack mode against Dolly Parton for allegedly coming out and pledging her support for Ukraine in the aftermath of the White House blowup between President Trump, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday (2-28). But the video their using to claim Dolly is taking a decidedly anti-American and anti-Trump stance is from 2022.

Major X/Twitter influencer Catturd with his 3.5 million followers would have you believe that Dolly Parton took the opportunity of the U.S./Ukraine tension to say from the stage recently,

“I do want us before we get started with all of our fun to take a serious moment. Now I don’t want to be political, and this is not. I would rather pass a kidney stone than do that. I want us to send our love and hope to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. So why don’t we just dedicate this entire show to them, and pray for peace around this great old world.”

But in truth, this was Dolly Parton’s words from the stage of the 2022 ACM Awards. Russia began its full scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24th, 2022. Nine short days later when the world was still reeling from the invasion, host Dolly Parton had to do her best to address the elephant in the room and show respect for the gravity of the moment, while also hosting a country music awards show.

“STFU! So tired of these idiots picking everyone over the USA,” Catturd said, posting the video as if it was new. Conservative X/Twitter account Clown World with its 2.9 million followers also said, “Another celebrity who ‘doesn’t want to be political’ but just can’t resist. ‘I want to send our love and hope to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.’ They always have to push the narrative.”

But of course, it’s these conservative influencers pushing the false narratives at the expense of Dolly Parton who has spent the better part of 80 years always trying to remain impartial and apolitical. And ironically, they’re using her statement about not being political against her.

The good news is that X/Twitter eventually added a “Community Note” to the posts conveying the context that the video is indeed from 2022. But this hasn’t slowed down the ire towards Dolly, who just like most everyone in America and the Western World at the time, was gravely concerned about the Russian invasion when it initially happened.

Similarly, a video featuring Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood posted in April of 2022 as part of a concerted fundraising campaign for Ukrainian citizens has been recirculating, with the same out-of-context criticisms.

In both of these cases, it very likely these videos are going viral not by accident, but from provocateurs who understand they’ll go viral, increasing their social media footprint and clout at the expense of the artists’ wishes to stay apolitical. Even after the push back due to the timing and the Community Note on Twitter, these accounts have kept their posts up, and not edited the original captions.

The original account to post the video appears to be TaraBull with her 1.1 million followers, and a bio that reads, “Let’s end the establishment media • ʟɪꜱᴛᴇɴ ᴡɪᴛʜ ᴄᴜʀɪᴏꜱɪᴛʏ. ꜱᴘᴇᴀᴋ ᴡɪᴛʜ ʜᴏɴᴇꜱᴛʏ. ᴀᴄᴛ ᴡɪᴛʜ ɪɴᴛᴇɢʀɪᴛʏ.”

But these infleuncers are eroding any integrity they might have, and aping the establishment media with their opportunistic, out-of-context, and attention-hungry posts.
