There is a moment in the careers of certain artists when you have the opportunity to see them for an affordable price and in a realitvely intimate venue before everything goes crazy and you’re screaming at your screen because you got locked out of a presale, or are putting off the kid’s braces to pay for a couple of tickets. Sierra Ferrell is at that point ahead of the release of her new album Long Time Coming on August 20th, so word to the wise: carve out the time to see her if or when you can.
Continuing to explode in popularity due to multiple viral videos and the pre-release singles to her upcoming Rounder Records debut, Sierra Ferrell is embarking on a serious tour for the rest of 2021, giving folks ample opportunities to see her before she very well may blow up like we’ve seen from so many other independent country stars. And having seen her live I can attest, it’s worth the effort.
Originally from Charleston, West Virginia, Sierra started singing at the age of 7, left home in her 20’s to become a wandering minstrel playing in boxcars and at truck stops, later busking on the streets of New Orleans and Washington State before eventually landing in Nashville. Now her name’s on the tip of the tongue whenever someone asks who many be the “next one” when it comes to independent country and roots.
Co-produced by 10-time Grammy Award-winner Gary Paczosa and Australian musician Stu Hibberd, Long Time Coming was recorded at Nashville’s Southern Ground and Minutia Studios, and finds the nexus between ragtime jazz, bluegrass mountain music, and classic country. Helping Sierra Ferrell along the way was a serious cadre of musicians including Billy Strings, Sarah Jarosz, Dennis Crouch, Jerry Douglas, Tim O’Brien, Chris Scruggs, and Rory Hoffman.

I think she’s good and I like that she eclectic, but I don’t see how she stands out from say Dori Freeman or any other woman with the same type of voice. Not trying to be argumentative. I guess some of these “stand outs” are a little lost on me
Thanks Trig, she’s playing here Nov. 7 it says with John R. Miller at The Space in Evanston only standing room tickets left. Glad I got one, it’ll sell out for sure. Beats going into the city as well.
Will try to catch the Oct. 30 show in Indy, if not in St. Petersburg.
Love Sierra.
Ok, so going to whine. You know how Rob Leines says welding melts metal and is hotter than **it?
We get it. We appreciate the things that men are really good at.
I want somebody to write a little ditty about putting up blackberry jam.
Have no fingerprints left. Might as well rob a bank & put back funds to make jam next year.
Air conditioning down to 67°. In a little t-shirt and panties. HOT.
Putting up blackberry jam is like working in PURPLE LAVA.
But skip a year, & people act like you drove a stake through their heart & don’t really love them after all.
Thank goodness for 1/2 a bottle of Shiraz.
Helps numb fingertip nerve endings.
just sayin’
Wow, and Charley Crockett is going to be there with Joshua Ray Walker. That should be a good show.
Have you ever been to an Isaac Rudd and The Revolvers show? They are a lot of fun.
Planning on going to the Sept. Hard Truth Hills show. Cool venue
With a description like that, it sounds like you’ve blackberry jammed a time or twelve! At least the fuzz can’t catch you with no fingerprints! How has life been treating you, Di?
Doing Great NPC – Thanks!
How are you doing, what’s going on in your neck of the woods?
A time or twelve is right.
The blackberries were fabulous this year. $5. bucks a PINT. Thought holy crap.
Skipped ’19, and ’20, & my little brother was like, Seriously – what’s it gonna take?
25 jars, only have 25 jars made.
12 going to my brother. FedExing at least 6 to friends in Amarillo.
This morning going to go out, see if there are any gorgeous berries left to purchase.
Most likely will have to run to Sam’s, get some Costa Rican blackberries.
You’ve got quite the blackberry jam empire afoot! Shipping costs must be a pain, but I’m sure everyone appreciates them. Hopefully, you found more today to complete your mission! Just so I don’t bog down the comments section, feel free to shoot an email to npc123 [at] mailinator.com, and we’ll discuss your blackberry adventures and more.
This girl is different, with an eclectic singing style not to mention her overall eclectic style…..and I love it! I simply cannot stop playing “Bells of Every Chapel” since I first heard it. It is so great and a VERY welcome relief from the standard fill-in-the-blank “country” on radio. I will definitely make a point to see her if she comes nearby.
Ok so I just got back from the show at “Space” here in snooty rich north shore Evanston, IL and Sierra and band were absolutely amazing!!! Sounded so good, injected personality etc….in between songs. A few of us tried to get some kind of hand clap going when she launched into Jeremiah for one of the last songs but the stuck up crowd couldn’t be bothered to get up off their MANDATORY masked asses out of their expensive seat and cheer on Sierra with some enthusiasm. It was a highlight never the less. Sierra and band A+, venue staff A, John R. Miller opening set B+, venue rules F. Welcome to my world here in IL where every 5 miles the rules are enforced differently because of owners opinions/views etc…and they think they’re making a difference…….LOL………….They’re NOT.

Good to hear she’s making it to Indy. Hi-Fi has Son Volt, Brent Cobb, Charley Crockett, all in August, and lots more SCM favorites in September.
Might have to pitch a tent.
