Hellbound Glory Bootleg – Live From The Cracker Swamp
On March 27th, 2011, Hellbound Glory, the most underrated country band in the world, made a tour stop at Will’s Pub in Orlando, FL. Down a man on the tour to begin with, then down their bass player a few nights before, with their fill-in steel player filling in on bass the day after getting beat up by a bunch of bikers in a “wrong place, wrong time” situation, the remaining members rallied, reached down deep, and pulled out a remarkable, rememberable performance as a power trio that will forever be known as “The Concert in the Cracker Swamp”.
Leroy Virgil, lead singer and songwriter left his acoustic in the case and manned lead guitar, Chico on drums played with the energy of two men, and Rico, hours out of the hospital, manned the four string. Those few that were there in-person, and those listening all across the world on SCM LIVE, could feel that this was no ordinary night, with no ordinary band, playing no ordinary songs.
Hellbound Glory, Rusty Knuckles, Reverend Nix of Cracker Swamp Productions, and Saving Country Music have combined to bring you the full audio from that night for your listening pleasure. It includes many of their top songs from their two albums–Old Highs and New Lows and Scumbag Country–as well as excellent renditions of classics like Waylon Jennings’ “Amanda” and Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”.
Please make sure to stop by Hellbound Glory’s online store at rustyknuckles.com and offer your financial support, and keep your eyes peeled for concert dates to see them live.

April 12, 2011 @ 3:30 pm
Am I missing out on the proper way to download these songs altogether? I am getting them individually but not collectively. Maybe it’s my computer…
April 12, 2011 @ 4:25 pm
No, we broke them up into tracks so people can pipe them up individually if they want like a live CD instead of an audio archive. If a bunch of people want the entire concert head to toe, I can get Rev. Nix to send it over and post it.
April 12, 2011 @ 6:52 pm
If it’s not too much trouble, that’d be great!
April 12, 2011 @ 11:14 pm
these guys are tough as nails and this set is goddamned superb!
I’m with Ian on getting the audio file if possible.
Thanks to Triggerman, Rev Nix, HG & Rusty Nails for getting this out to us fans.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:11 pm
That would be so great if you could make that happen! Been dying for more Hellbound Glory to listen to.

Just thought it odd that’s the only cover that wasn’t titled properly.

I love this fucking band. 3rd time seeing them will be at muddy roots!
April 12, 2011 @ 4:42 pm
Trigger — thanks for the post and sharing the great tunes… as well as the intro to Rusty Knuckles and their artist roster!
April 12, 2011 @ 5:07 pm
Rusty Knuckles is good people. I met the head honcho at South by Southwest briefly. Saw The Green Lady Killers right before Hellbound at SXSW, and they rocked. Just got a copy of Jay Berndt and a Joe Buck 7″ from them. I think we’re going to be hearing a lot from them in the future.
April 12, 2011 @ 4:57 pm
Awesome! Thanks to everyone involved who made this happen! Syncing to my IPOD right now!!!
April 12, 2011 @ 5:02 pm
I’m SO glad you guys made this available to download! I knew Nick (lead guitar) was missing, but I didn’t realize the other obstacles they were facing that night. You’d never know it listening, they tore it up! Hellbound Glory IS the most underrated country band in the world, and Leroy Virgil is one of the best songwriters out there, period. Can’t wait to see them again at Muddy Roots, and hopefully maybe possibly right before….
April 12, 2011 @ 5:31 pm
Great job with the recording! Thanks for putting it out, Mr. Reverend Nix. I get to hear these boys live all the time and I downloaded it! It’s killer. I know they appreciate all the work you guys put in helping get their name out there. You’ve got an awesome resource, Trigger. Thanks man.
April 12, 2011 @ 5:43 pm
Two thumbs pointed upwards.
April 12, 2011 @ 6:18 pm
Thanks so much for sharing!!!
April 12, 2011 @ 7:18 pm
I must just be dumb but i can’t figure how to download these as mp3’s. I can only stream them over the internet, but they’re still awesome!
April 12, 2011 @ 7:21 pm
nevermind figured it out
April 12, 2011 @ 8:44 pm
PennsWoods, could you enlighten me? This is good stuff.
April 13, 2011 @ 9:37 am
Depending on which browser you use right click on the link and select “save target as” or “save linked content” etc. to download the files.
April 13, 2011 @ 9:24 am
Thanks for this, guys. Liked what I heard and ordered Old Highs and New Lows from their store.
I’m originally from “Bruce Country” and appreciated the cover of I’m On Fire. That’s a song that got played and MTVed to death back in the day, but hearing this new take on it reminds me that it is indeed a very good song.
April 13, 2011 @ 10:05 am
You should also check out Whitey Morgan and 78’s version. Great stuff!
April 13, 2011 @ 10:10 am
This is fucking awesome. I LOVE this band and the AMANDA and WOMEN I’VE NEVER HAD cuts are fucking sweet. Blackjack loves this band! I was listening to Fifth on the Floor and JB Beverley and put this on and he got quiet and listened. He’s got some good scumbag taste.
April 13, 2011 @ 2:59 pm
That’s awesome! I’ve heard of Mozart for newborns, but I think Hellbound Glory for newborns is even better!
April 13, 2011 @ 3:32 pm
That’s funny. Wonder what his first words will be?!?
April 13, 2011 @ 5:23 pm
Well I would hope the lil guy has good taste 🙂
April 14, 2011 @ 9:14 am
Whenever we get in the car, my three year old son Hank tells me to play some “Leber-boy.” That’s how he pronounces “Leroy.” I’m feeling better about the future generations ;o)
April 14, 2011 @ 10:19 am
My five year old daughter says her favorite group is the Carolina Chocolate Drops and she loves In Spite of Ourselves by John Prine. Start ’em on the good stuff when they’re young and maybe some of it will stick.
April 13, 2011 @ 10:46 am
They now owe a place in my heart with that ‘I’m on fire” cover. That song has a deep personal meaning for me.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:17 am
As much as I love the Hellbound originals, when they played “Amanda” and “I’m On Fire”, I was absolutely blown away. “I’m On Fire” doesn’t really have any personal meaning to me. I’m not really a huge Boss fan. I guess the song is OK. But it was the EXACT right song for that exact right moment, delivered with taste, and it was so good it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. When a band can play the songs of others better than the originals, that’s how you know they’re good.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:42 am
I heard something about them maybe playing up this way @ some point . If so I’ll be there even if I gotta walk.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:44 am
Good point. The song as originally recorded doesn’t do a whole for me and I’m more of a ’70s Bruce fan anyway. Still, it must be a pretty good song if a different arrangement of it that doesn’t really transform the song into something else (like Hank III does with Atlantic City, IMO) can make people feel something.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:35 am
*own …. damn i should really read what i write when i am writing it.
April 13, 2011 @ 11:25 am
The owners of Will’s Pub are friend’s of mine – they always have great music there. Wish I lived in Orlando still cause I would have loved to have caught this show. Thanks for sharing!
April 21, 2011 @ 2:55 am

June 12, 2012 @ 1:32 pm
If you are a man and you don’t like Hellbound Glory you officially have a mangina. What ever man achievements you have done in the past whether its fist fighting a bear or surviving out in the wilderness for 60 days, you have lost some serious man points.
