Jason Isbell to Play Free Show to Celebrate Bicentennial
Tuscaloosa, Alabama will be celebrating its Bicentennial, or 200th Birthday in 2019, and Alabama’s own Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit will be headlining a free concert in the city to celebrate the occasion. Isbell is originally from Green Hill, Alabama near Muscle Shoals and the Tennessee border. The “Bicentennial Bash” will be taking place at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on March 30th, 2019.
Jason Isbell is one of numerous performers for the event, all of whom are from Alabama. Also scheduled to perform are St. Paul & The Broken Bones, The Blind Boys of Alabama, The Commodores, Moon Taxi, and multiple local bands yet to be named on a 2nd stage. Gates open at 1 p.m., and Isbell takes the stage at 8:00. A fireworks display will proceed the music. There will also be rides, inflatables, and activities for kids.
“When we began planning Tuscaloosa’s 200th anniversary, our Bicentennial Commission’s leadership challenged us to think big and create a once-in-a-lifetime experience for all citizens,” said Elizabeth McGiffert, chair of the Tuscaloosa 200 Events Committee. “We are so excited to announce this fantastic family-focused day that will help set the tone for a year of education, outreach and special events for our entire community.”
The music concert is the centerpiece of an entire year of activities celebrating Tuscaloosa’s bicentennial. As one of the few opportunities to see Jason Isbell for free, and with other bands worth perusing, you may want to make plans now if you’re within driving distance.

This is fantastic. It’s just a little over 3 hours from where I live, and it will be warm enough to camp. I’ve wanted to see the Blind Boys of Alabama for some time as well.

couple of yrs ago, the sig other won tix from a radio station for a show where the blind boys of alabama were on the bill, but until they started their set, the sig. other didn’t realize that they were actually blind — she just thought their name was just another punk rock style band name. 🙂

It can only be too hot to camp. It can’t be too cold.

Hopefully he plays some more upbeat songs, instead of the typical self-loathing / whiney / sappy songs that have made me never really be able to get into him.

Do you think Jason knows that his wife is so much better than him at music? I always wonder.

Used to really love Jason until he started lecturing people on who they voted for. Now, wouldn’t go see him even if the show was free. Just another whining SJW who feels guilty that he was born caucasian.

I felt like he threw his fellow Alabamans under the bus with his Daily Show appearance. “The problem with Alabama is that Alabamans live there.” HUH?

He should be less concerned about us poor, dumb southerners and more concerned with getting his teeth fixed . For someone who is so ashamed of his heritage,, it’s ironic that his appearance makes him look like a poster child for the dangers of inbreeding .

If you want artists that look pretty and conform to your image of how they should appear, maybe you ought to watch FGL or other pop acts.
Even Waylon wont be good enough heaven forbid as he had a gap between his teeth.

Isbell isn’t worthy to sweep up the pubic clippings from Waylon’s shaved nuts.

I’m a huge Waylon fan, but I cant think of any Waylon song that he wrote that’s as good as If We were Vampires for instance. I think Jason Isbell is a far superior writer and guitar player, but I think Waylon when he was younger was better singer, unfortunately Waylon’s output by end of 70’s was pretty sketchy to say the least.
