Jason James is BACK with New Single, Upcoming Album

Ever since releasing his debut album in 2015, Texas City-native Jason James has been on the front lines of keeping the classic sound of country music alive and vibrant in the ears of very appreciative modern listeners. Listening to the music of Jason James, you hear the ghosts of George Jones, Ray Price, and other Golden Era performers coming through the voice, the writing, and the style and approach to this music. This isn’t ’90s neotraditional country. This is classic, traditional country, full stop.
In 2023 though, after personal setbacks and years of struggling to make it all work, Jason James announced he was stepping back from the music business. But now he’s stepping back in, and in a big way with a new single called “Cut The Chain” (listen below), and a new album of the same name to be released by Heart of Texas Records on September 11th. Jason James wrote all ten songs of the new album himself.
James says about the new song, “The character has gone through a recent divorce. The marriage turned cold and loveless, and slowly died over an undisclosed amount of time. The character is now beginning to find solace in the endless sea of honky tonks and bars. He meets a lot of sad and broken-hearted people in these places. People that seem very sweet and kind, but that have met the cold, cruel hands of fate. However; for this character, the honky tonk angels seem to resuscitate his spirits from the damage of his loveless marriage, and he is feeling his wild oats.”

The new album almost didn’t come into being due to numerous setbacks. Working with producer John Evans, they began recording in the Nashville studio of legendary bass player Dave Roe, and assembled an A-team of musicians for the record, including guitarist “Cousin” Kenny Vaughan, Steve Hinson on steel guitar, and the late bluegrass great Ronnie Bowman on backing vocals. But then funding issues stalled the sessions.
Then when more funding was finally secured through Heart of Texas Records, Dave Roe passed away unexpectedly, creating yet another setback. It took them two years to get back into the studio to complete the record. But when they did, they entered to find almost everything still in place from when the original sessions stopped, including the knobs on the mixing board. Cut The Chain was finally completed.
Along with Heart of Texas Records, Jason James has also been receiving significant support from The Malpass Brothers who booked him as an opener, and featured him on their RFD-TV show. Similar to The Malpass Brothers, Jason James makes fast fans of audiences young an old with his sound reminiscent of the greatest moments in country history.
Limited Edition signed copies of the new album are now available for pre-order.

His last album is criminally underrated and this one I’m sure will be just as great. He put on an incredible show at Gruene Hall.

I fell in love with this guy’s voice with the song “Back in My Arms” and have been looking forward to new material from him ever since. His voice is a breath of fresh air amidst the dreck that is country music today
