Jayke Orvis and the Broken Band To Hit The Road
Mandolin maestro Jayke Orvis is hitting the road once again as his own man, with help from some familiar faces. The former .357 Sting Band member, and occasional member of The Goddamn Gallows has roped in the greatness of James Hunnicutt, along with Joe Perreze on banjo and Fishgutz (The Goddamn Gallows) on bass, aka ‘The Broken Band’ for a tour through the South and Midwest starting mid January.
“I’ve taken a bit of a break these last few months and now I’m itchin’ to get back in the van.” Jayke iterated to me through the miracle of electronic mail. “There may be some rotations down the line here and there but this lineup is pretty solid. Right now it just makes sense to run a stretch together and have James do a set too. I’m really lookin’ forward to bein’ on the road with my family.”
And people should not take Jayke’s time off from touring with The Gallows or this solo tour as a sign he’s done with the fire-breathing outfit. “I plan on being with the Goddamn Gallows more next year but will definitely be doing another solo tour. I’m thrilled beyond words that Baby Genius is back behind the drums, where he needs to be. This tour, the gallows have the full original lineup and it’s gonna be legendary.”

I’m really digging Jayke’s solo album, and wondering why it took me so long to buy. If I was anywhere near these shows, I would say don’t miss it!

And if he’s playing in Hamtramck, I’ll bet dollars to donuts Rachel Brooke will be there.
Or do you say dollars to pasties in MI? From the party store.

Are you guys talking pasties, meat and potato wrapped in a crust and covered with gravy? The Irish brought them to Montana back in the 1800s and I grew up on them. In fact I’m planning to make some tonight! For some reason I thought Trigger was talking about those little things that go on strippers nipples….

I lived in Flint for a while, and got a pretty good dose of Michigan culture. Took a trip one time to the U.P. and experienced the who pasties phenomenon for myself.

No Kidding.. When did you live here? Where at?

Yeah, it was the copper miners in Butte who brought pasties to Montana, and my Irish aunt from Butte who brought them into my family. Gotta bottle some homebrew tonight, so pasty making will be put off until tomorrow.

Man I thought I’d told you that. I lived all over the place. I lived down just south of Grand Blanc in Holly. Then I lived up in Flint right down the street from The Big Lady ( if the Big Lady is still there.) kinda west of downtown. Used hang out at Churchills all the time (if its still there). Then I spent some time in Kalamazoo and then up north just south of Traverse City, in Mesick. Had my car stolen in Flint, with my 300+ CD collection in the back seat.

nope.. Im not sure we ever spoke of that.. Crazy thing is I am in Fenton.. 4 miles west of Holly. Holly is an awesome area IMO.. There used to be a few good bands that played at one of the bars in old town Holly by the railroad tracks about 10 years ago or so and that was the first time I saw a stand up bass played live. BTW Churchills is still there and you would be amazed at what has happened in downtown Flint and we have camped just north of Mesick quite a few times.. Small world..

Pretty much an All Star band. Both James Hunnicutt and Joe Perreze can and have done their own tours. I bet there will be some other big names make appearances at times as well.
