Jayke Orvis to Join The Goddamn Gallows Full Time on Upcoming Tour
When mandolin maestro and songwriter Jayke Orvis was unceremoniously booted from the now defunct .357 String Band, he found safe haven with the likes of the dark roots ensemble The Goddamn Gallows. After a few rounds across the country with the outfit, Orvis felt inclined to launch a solo career and formed The Broken Band, which became one of the most spellbinding underground string bands that could be found on stage. Then The Broken Band birthed it’s own offshoots The Urban Pioneers, and Jayke decided to put the band effort on an of indefinite hiatus for a while, while at the same time promising not to stay away too long, and touring some as a solo act in the interim.
Now word has come down that Jayke Orvis has decided to suit up once again with the Goddamn Gallows on their upcoming nationwide tour. Stepping aside for the moment is banjo player Joe Perreze. “I will be back with them onstage in the future and look forward to enjoying the show from the audience in the meantime,” says Perreze. The Gallows will be touring behind their latest album The Maker.
Opening select dates on the tour will be blues aficionado Husky Burnette, who is getting ready to release his new album Ain’t Nothin’ But A Revival! produced by Andy Gibson on February 26th.
This tour will not be for the faint of heart. But for those to like blood, fire, and all manner of wild antics mixed into the darkest, hardest roots music in existence, the Goddamn Gallows are a sight to behold.

Yes! This is great news. Jayke adds something really special to The Goddamn Gallows live performance. I hope this doesn’t set back any Broken Band recordings though. Jayke Orvis has become my all time favorite roots artist since the .357 split

So I guess they must’ve gotten those charges dropped or something? I remember they had a fundraiser going with an album a little while back for bail money / legal fees etc
Stoked that they’re coming to NC btw they sure put on one hell of a show

It’s gonna be a wild tour… Joe and his wife are having a baby so he’s out for awhile but its gonna be great to have Orvis back out with them… Oh and to the person who said they hoped this won’t delay any Broken Band recordings, as Trig kind of states, The Broken Band is dead. Liz and Jared are doing The Urban Pioneers, James is doing his solo shit and being overly positive, and Jayke’s been doing some solo stuff (even recorded a bit) and now is back in The GALLOWS… personally I think we need a .357 Reunion with both Jayke and Billy Cook who replaced him on “Lightning From The North”

Saying the Broken Band is dead is kind of like saying Bob Wayne’s Outlaw Carnies are gone forever just because Stump Tail Dolly was formed… There’s always more musicians out there to take someone’s place. Not that I would like to see anyone other than Hunnicut, Joe, Jared and Liz up there with him. They where badass. Remember, Fishgutzzz was the first bass player in the Broken Band. Even if Jayke turns to more solo recordings, I’m very excited to hear what he has to offer. A .357 reunion would be cool but I don’t think there is enough money floating around in the roots scene to get Rick Ness off of Gold Rush

I say bring the .357 string band to Alaska and have them perform on Gold Rush so the world can see!

And it was. Helluva good time. Trig, you might want to check out Wolfpussy. They were one of the opening acts for Goddamn Gallows in STL, and almost reminded me of Hank III with a touch of influence from Sixteen Horsepower. Great act.
