Joshua Ray Walker to Make TV Debut Ahead of Upcoming Tour
Those with their ears to the ground don’t need to be told that Joshua Ray Walker has quickly become one of the most revered up-and-coming songwriters in country music. Already a Saving Country Music Song of the Year winner, his debut trilogy of albums capped off by 2021’s See You Next Time have put him on the top shelf of wordsmiths, so much so he’s garnered the attention of a national audience, even if he’s received little or no attention from country’s mainstream.
That deep appreciation for Joshua Ray Walker’s music is the reason he was chosen to sing the National Anthem at the only stop on the Formula 1 racing series in the United States at the Circuit of the Americas just outside of Austin, TX last October. That’s also what’s won him the opportunity to make his late night television debut on The Tonight Show February 1st. Originally scheduled for January 11th, the performance was moved due to COVID issues.
The very next night after The Tonight Show appearance, Walker will be playing at Ponyboy in Oklahoma City as part of an upcoming tour this late winter into early spring. It will include opening a show for Wade Bowen at Joe’s on Weed Street in Chicago, and for Wheeler Walker Jr. at the Ryman Auditorium in April.
Just like some other of your favorite independent country artists before him, it may not be long before Joshua Ray Walker won’t be playing intimate clubs, but bigger and bigger venues. So see him in a smaller setting while you still can.

He had a brief appearance in the movie “This world won’t break”. Thought it was cool seeing him in it…although the movie wasn’t great.

Still waiting on any song to replace “First I’ll finish off this bottle, so it looks like a mistake”

He’s a much better songwriter than Francis Scott Key. His lyrics are great and he doesn’t need to steal his melodies from the theme songs for British gentlemen’s clubs!

A country artist playing some Northeast shows!! Got my tickets.
Saw him solo opening for Charley Crockett and it was excellent. Really looking forward to seeing him with the full band.

I just bought tickets to the Chicago show because of this post. Not familiar with Wade Bowen but I figure 12 dollars is a bargain to see his opening set.

Wade is pretty awesome. Have seen him several time in large and small venues. Just saw him last week at Mile O Fest. However, he is more Texas and Red Dirt than country.

One of the best doing it now. Lot Lizard is one of the best tunes this decade. Happy for him.

Of all the degrading and despicable things an artist must to do in order to have a chance, to be put in the position, to be able to use what you’ve got, to Make It, opening for Wheeler Walker Jr. must be near the top of that list.

“Revered songwriters”?
How does one become a revered songwriter, Kyle? Time and broad exposure maybe? Or is internet nonsense enough to get that title? There is absolutely nothing special about this guy’s songs.

“How does one become a revered songwriter, Kyle?”
Well, when I’ve reviewed over 100 records in a given year with an average of 10 songs, and out of all of those songs I decided that it was a Joshua Ray Walker song that was better than them all, I would say that qualifies, especially when one has had numerous songs also considered for that distinction.
Joshua Ray Walker wasn’t selected to play The Tonight Show because of his good looks, his connections in high places, or his presence on a major label roster, or his commercial prowess. He was selected because of his songs. That’s “revered” by definition.

Saw him a few months ago just him and his guitar. Made me tear up – a first

Double cheeseburger extra mayo,
I agree with part of your assessment. The revered status is a bit of hyperbole.
Your second comment about his songs, I have to respectfully disagree.
