You better get out to see Kaitlin Butts while she’s still playing relatively intimate venues, or you’ll be bellyaching in years to come when you have to fork out big bucks to see her in bigger venues when she blows up. Because ladies and gentlemen, Kaitlin Butts very well may be poised to blow up. And by the way, Kaitlin Butts and her band are killer live.
For the first time, Kaitlin has announced a full-blown headlining tour, and it coincides with the release of her epic new 17-track album Roadrunner inspired by the play Oklahoma! coming out on June 28th. Tour openers include Ken Pomeroy, Angel White, and Fancy Hagood. See the tour poster below, along with a full list of her 2024 tour dates below that.
Along with the headlining dates, Kaitlin Butts is also playing a bunch of this year’s biggest festivals, including being booked as the tailgating talent at the Buckeye Country Superfest in Ohio, a big performance at the Jackalope Jamboree in Oregon to coincide with her album release on June 28th, as well as Under The Big Sky Fest in Montana in July, Lollapalooza in Chicago, and RedWest Fest in Utah in October.
For all you folks across the pond, she also has six dates in the U.K., along with an appearance at the Huercasa Country Festival in Spain in July.
It’s been 5 yrs almost to the day that White River came out and Trigger put it in his playlist, and I played it a bazillion times. Watched tons of videos, acoustic shows, Covid live streams, and live shows, and now finally she’s coming here to Joe’s on Weed St. I know she’ll be at Lolla, but I don’t Lolla. We can’t wait!!!
She crushed it at Railbird. One of the best Christmas presents I got myself a few years ago was handwritten White River lyrics from her shop. She’s so damn underappreciated I’m glad she’s getting a headlining tour and in line for a massive blow up.
She just dropped “Come Rest your Head (On my Pillow)” with Vince Gill today. Insanely stunningly beautiful song. Not a chance it’s not making the next SCM playlist. I’ll go so far as to say it’ll be nominated for single of the year if not song of the year. And not a chance I’m not seeing her on this tour.
She’s fantastic! Although, I’m bummed that there aren’t any Florida dates on the tour which seems to be a trend with independent country artists.
Hey Trigger- Any insight on why a lot (not all) of independent artists don’t book shows in Florida? If they do they come to St. Augustine and that’s it. Tyler Childers played Tampa Wednesday night and it was a sellout – not to mention a great show. There are some really passionate independent country fans in this state that are yearning for more shows than just the “pop country” we usually get. I’ve heard the argument in the past that Florida is a long state and expensive to travel here, but I see California and Texas on a lot of artist’s tour schedules (with multiple shows booked), and those states are bigger than Florida. Perhaps our local promoters just need a wake up call!
Florida is a peninsula, and if it’s not cost effective enough or there’s not the right venues who want to book these acts, they will avoid it. It’s nothing personal. It often comes down to logistics. I know there are some efforts underway to entice more folks to play Florida. There is a guy that runs the “Florida Red Dirt Country Club” that you can find on social media that tries to work with artists and venues to get them to come down to Florida more. Mile 0 Fest in Key West each year is trying to open up the Florida market to more Texas/Red Dirt bands. I think they’ve have some success over the years, but many are now flying in as opposed to touring through Florida. I’ve seen Kaitlin there the last two years, though I know Key West is not anywhere near the population centers or convenient for most Floridians.
This relates to my earlier comment. I also noticed her tour dates skip Georgia, as well. I live near Jacksonville, which is close to the Florida-Georgia….oops, sorry.
About “cost effective”: while I agree that most tours try to work within geographic locations, take a look at the first week or two of her tour: Ohio -> Oregon -> back to Nashville -> Spain (!) -> Nebraska. I hope she’s collecting those frequent flier miles.
As I mentioned in my other comment, we have some excellent small- to medium-sized venues right here that would be perfect for those artists who aren’t making the stadium tours. Daily’s Place (which I reference in my comment) is a 5000-seat amphitheater and a popular local venue. There’s the Florida Theater, the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall and the St. Augustine Amphitheater. That last location is one of the sites used by the Sing Out Loud festival in September, which attracts a lot of acts that would be of interest here. There is an audience for the music here – this is literally the birthplace of the Southern rock genre – and Luke Combs recently filled Everbank Stadium for two shows in May. I get that touring can be a grind, especially for a rising talent like Ms. Butts. But we would love to have more opportunities to see her and other great acts.
Trig, you mentioned Florida as a peninsula. So is Spain. She has one show in Brooklyn (also part of an island), not an easy trip logistically (nothing in New York is ever easy). Yes, Key West has its festival, but getting to Key West is hardly an easy trip – one highway, mostly two-lane, 120 miles from the mainland, limited places to stay (and prepare to pay handsomely) and a tiny airport.
A trip down I-95 in Florida takes one through Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Daytona, the space coast and eventually Fort Lauderdale and into Miami. That’s a promising number of gigs, without even heading west to Orlando, Tampa or Pensacola.
Sorry for the geography lecture and the rant, but We miss a lot of good stuff down here.
Look, I hear you, and I sympathize. I’m sure at some point Butts will make her way down there. You have to appreciate that shows like the Spain one is at a festival, and they’re probably paying her a premium, and ponying up for the flight. It’s a different situation. Like I said, I personally know of efforts underway to get more Texas/Red Dirt artists specifically to tour down through Florida. Many years prior, Texas/Red Dirt artists all played the same TX-OK-AR-LA circuit because they couldn’t venture any farther. The more of a national buzz we can make for these artists, the more markets we can open up for them. And often if an artist doesn’t hit a state one year, they try to hit it the next.
Why can’t anyone make it down to Florida? It’s not like we don’t have legit cities with good venues. Hell, we have a 5000-seat amphitheater right in downtown Jacksonville (attached to Everbank Stadium, where the Jaguars play) which would be perfect for many great country acts like Ms. Butts.
I’m not calling out Ms. Butts on this, since this appears to be a common issue among all manner of musical acts. When Trig posts about some tour, the first thing I look for is some city nearby. I’m often disappointed.
I do not know much about this singer but having head such positive comments about her, I am looking forward to seeing her on her UK tour in August supporting Flatland Cavalry. It should be a good show.
It looks like the MA show she’s opening for Dierks Bentley. Eh. I don’t know if I can stomach it. I mean he’s okay but I’m sure the ticket prices are too much to justify it.
I think I have the power to make things happen with my mind. I just need to figure out HOW I do/did it and retain that knowledge for future use.
I went to the Kaitlin Butts show tonight. Kaitlin Butts happens to be married to Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry. So, I looked at their page and saw that they weren’t playing anywhere tonight and I said “huh, well, who knows, maybe he’ll travel with her and show up and they’ll do “A Life Where We Work Out.” Unlikely, but, hey, who knows.”
About two thirds of the way through the show, what happens but she introduces her husband, Cleto Cordero of Flatland Cavalry and they do “A Life Where We Work Out.”

They are cute as heck together.

Only just started listening to her but already was kinda excited to see her anyway nearby.
She reminds me be a bit of Kasey Musgraves but without the kitsch bs.

i could even renew my passport and fly my ol’ ass to to rainy U.K. for her.
