King Goose Offers Videos and a Haven for Touring Performers

Midwest singer and songwriter Royce Johns really impressed us back in 2023 with his album Thank Ya Kindly. It conveyed a perfect, laid back mood in a traditional country style, and became a favorite of those who crossed paths with it.

Now he’s launched a new enterprise in his home base near Des Moines, Iowa. He recently set up a dedicated house studio where he’s looking to capture touring performers coming through town in intimate videos, similar to Western AF and Gems on VHS.

They’re calling the videos the Goose House Sessions, and have also launched King Goose Records. But the space is more than just a studio. Royce Johns and his associates have turned it into a haven for touring musicians. They’ve already captured some cool performers such as Pat Reedy and The Local Honeys (see below). The space could also be used to record full albums.

“I’ve gone all in leveraging my life savings to create a spot to capture singer/songwriters on the road,” Royce Johns says. “It’s a retreat that we’ve been capturing artists coming through town on their tour leg through the Midwest. We can lodge them for free, after their show in town, then shoot the video the next morning before they leave town.”

Along with top quality equipment, the facility has six beds, a bathroom, and even a kitchen. They offer the space up to performers they see potential in to stay and record a video. They’ve been releasing the videos about once a week on the King Good Records YouTube channel.

Musicians touring through Des Moines, Iowa or nearby can reach out to royce@kinggooserecords.com or josh@kinggooserecords.com to see if they’re interested in offering up the space to them and recording a video. Meanwhile, there rest of us can anticipate cool new videos featuring some of our favorite performers and new performers to discover on a weekly basis.
