Loretta Lynn Sets Release Date for Delayed Album “Wouldn’t It Be Great”
The uncertainty surrounding Loretta Lynn’s latest album is over, and so is the long wait for the country music legend’s return to the spotlight. Announced on Wednesday (8-22), Loretta’s delayed Legacy Recordings album Wouldn’t It Be Great will be released on September 28th, 2018. Ahead of the release, she’s also made available the title track, which Loretta explains was inspired by her almost 50-year marriage to the notorious Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn (listen below).
“Well, my husband liked to drink a lot and that’s where that song comes from,” Lynn says. “‘Say you love me just one time, with a sober mind’… I always liked that song but I never liked to sing it around Doo.”
Wouldn’t It Be Great was recorded primarily at the Cash Cabin Studios in Hendersonville, TN, with caretaker of the studio John Carter Cash acting as producer along with Patsy Lynn Russell, Loretta’s daughter. “That song just always meant so much to me,” Patsy Lynn says about the title track. “Because of the lyrics, you know, ‘when my fancy lace couldn’t turn your face,’ it was just so powerful and was a song that needed to be recorded for this album with Loretta. It shows just how masterful my mom is with writing down her feelings.”
Wouldn’t It Be Great was originally scheduled to be released on August 18th, 2017 via Sony’s Legacy Recordings. But after Loretta Lynn suffered a mild stroke on May 5th, 2017, Lynn chose to delay the release until she was healthier to help promote it. Then on January 8th, 2018, fans were notified that Loretta Lynn had suffered another health setback after falling and fracturing her hip. On July 11th though, she re-appeared, excited to be working on a new video for the album.
The new album features 13 songs, all of which were written or co-written by Loretta herself. Just like her first Legacy Recordings release, the album is a mix of new songs, and re-recordings of some of her most legendary cuts. Loretta is said to have recorded upwards of 90 songs at the Cash Cabin over the last few years in preparation of regular releases from Sony Legacy.
Wouldn’t That Be Great can now be pre-ordered.

Hey Trig,
I was wondering what you thought about Cody Johnson’s newest single “On My Way to You.” I noticed it’s charting in the billboard in the 30s for airplay.

It’s a shame the only comment is about another artist.
Everybody say it with me: “Long live The Queen!”

I’ll say it with you Phil. “Long live the Queen”! Thanks to my parents I’ve been a fan of Loretta since I was a young kid in the mid 1960’s and it is so cool to still hear real country music from her all these decades later. Like us all her time on earth is working its way to the finish line so I hope every country music fan buys this when its released and takes the time to appreciate one of the best singer/songwriters ever.

Well, this really shows that Jack White was right, when he said that Loretta is a great songwriter… Her songs can really be sharp… “Say you love me just one time, with a sober mind…”

“Wouldn’t It Be Great?” (the song) is downloading right now (paid download…i know what you think…).
Carrie & Co should take some singing (& songwriting) lessons as soon as possible. You can write & sing country songs without faking emotions & scream like an ill howler monkey. With an endless & too loud guitar solo like some bad Guns N’ Roses cover band.

Wow….still has those great vocal chops and songwriting. I loved Van Lear Rose produced by Jack White. I see John Carter Cash produced this one….this could be better than Van Lear Rose. Look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

I’m 54,and Loretta has been my favorite singer since I was 5 or 6 years old.The second I saw Loretta’s beautiful face and heard Loretta’s beautiful voice,I was hooked for life.It took Loretta to get me hooked on Country Music. She will forever be my no.1 favorite singer.
Can hardly wait to get the new CD! I have pre-ordered a copy, but I will also purchase copies in Wal-Mart,and FYE if they have them.
And,while I don’t know yet if they will or won’t have the CD,I hope & pray Cracker Barrel will sell this CD too.Cracker Barrel did sell Loretta’s “Full Circle” and her Christmas CD “White Christmas Blue” CD’s.So,if they carry “Wouldn’t It Be Great”,I will purchase a CD from there too.
Always for Loretta Lynn

I’m simply stunned by Loretta’s vocal abilities on this track……and always have been . Loretta’s voice has the power to move . That fact alone defines a great artist . Marry that gift to simple, accessible , relateable , to-the-point lyrics and you have timeless songs unfettered by trend and production and the need to chase ears that don’t seem to understand these elements . You also have an unparalleled catalogue of COUNTRY music which continues to touch and inspire listeners and younger artists alike .
For me , there’s no Lucinda Williams , no Miranda , no Kacey Musgraves , no Brandy Clark , Caitlyn Smith and so many other determined young writers without Loretta Lynn .
I did not grow up with LL’s music . i was a young rocker when she was peaking on radio and it got by me . I came to her music later when I began to understand and take COUNTRY music more seriously . I began to understand how and WHY the greats were treasured and how their contributions were absorbed and distilled by , at the time , newer artists devoted to upholding and respecting the traditions .
This woman is a COUNTRY MUSIC ARTIST in the truest sense , choosing and or writing and performing her own music …and particularly lyrics….ON HER TERMS . I don’t care what your favourite era of country music might be ,or even what your favourite music genre might be, if the honesty and authenticity oozing from Loretta’s music doesn’t touch your heart , check your pulse .

That’s wonderful news about Loretta’s new album. I’ve been looking forward to hearing a new batch of fresh songs from her. Additionally, it will be interesting to hear a new take on “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” I wonder how much different it might sound. Three cheers to Loretta! As posted above, Long live the Queen!
