Mo Pitney Plays With Time Jumpers, Has New Music Coming

When you’re putting your list together of country traditionalists and purists popping through in the mainstream, make sure you don’t forget to include Mo Pitney. When he released his debut album Behind This Guitar in 2016 and even before, he had people singing his praises for his songwriting that reminded you of simpler times with his plainspoken language and old soul disposition. Mo’s popularity never quite materialized like it did for fellow mainstream traditionalist Jon Pardi who came up about the same time, but Pitney still possesses a great hand for songwriting, and a smooth country voice.
On Monday evening (11-25), Mo Pitney showed up to 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville for the weekly congregation of the country music supergroup The Time Jumpers, which includes Vince Gill, steel player Paul Franklin, fiddler Kenny Sears, Joe Spivey, Ranger Doug, and whomever else they can rope into appearing each week, which this week included Mo for the first time ever. Many members of Pitney’s family were in attendance as well to see him jump on stage to sing a couple of songs with the band, including “Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning” written by Gary P. Nunn, and recorded by Willie Nelson, and most recently Chris Stapleton.
Most importantly, Time Jumpers frontman Kenny Sears announced that Mo Pitney will have new music finally coming out in January, at least that’s the plan at the moment. In June of 2018 Pitney released a video for his song “Come Do A Little Life With Me,” and said then “Prepare for new music to come soon.” Pitney fans have been waiting patiently since, and it sounds like they could be rewarded come 2020.
Also appearing on the night with the Time Jumpers was Memphis native Wendy Moten, who has spent most of her career as a backup singer, but had a R&B hit back in 1992 with “Come Out of the Rain.” She has sung backup for Time McGraw and Faith Hill, and most recently has been performing traditional country with the Time Jumpers, and on the Grand Ole Opry on multiple occasions, covering songs from Jeannie Seely and Patsy Cline.
With the way more traditional-sounding country music is currently on the rise in the mainstream, it could be the right time for Mo Pitney to relaunch his career. Stay tuned for more information.
Thanks to Kevin Smith for the reporting and photos from 3rd and Lindsley.

This guy, Mo, is the real deal! I heard him sing “Borrowed Angel” and was hooked! An old country soul in a young man’s body, this guy is a REAL country singer, not someone masquerading under that title like so many guys/gals who wave the country banner these days but are really pop singers! I hope he finally gets the recognition he deserves.

Is he still with Curb?

Will look into Mo music!
We went to a Time Jumpers show in August where Wendy was officially announced as a member of the Time Jumpers- a great addition! She has quite the wonderful, silky smooth voice. Also saw her again in November as she toured with Vince Gill.

I’d love Mo Pitney to release more music, so this is great! He’s got an amazing voice, sort of reminicent of Ronnie Dunn’s. I hope he becomes a big star.

Didn’t anybody catch the mistake in the article?

To answer a couple questions, yes that’s Paul Franklin on Pedal Steel sitting next to Vince Gill in the picture. Paul plays with Vince as well as The Time Jumpers. Yes Mo is on Curb records. And yes the song by Gary P Nunn is Last Thing I Needed first Thing This Morning. I’ll take the heat for the goof as it was late night when I submitted the info to Trig and in my tiredness I got it wrong.
Finally, should mention The Time Jumpers are in my estimation, the best live band in Nashville.Honestly, as musicians go, they are the Mt Everest. Their monday gig is usually a sellout. Go see them if you are ever in Nashville on a monday.

I have loved Mos’ music going on 3 years. Am happy that he got to perform with some great artists. Been waiting on his new CD since February to finally be released, that’s when he finished his music for his NEW CD. He is so talented, his whole family/ band are also very talented.

Well…as a Curb artist he will release a single in 2020 & with a lot of luck an album in 2022.
Curb is too busy promoting shitty Dylan Scott or Rodney Atkins tracks.

I really hope Mo takes off soon. Too much talent to go unrecognized in the mainstream.
Side note – Wendy Moten is great as a solo act and on background vocals. She blends so well with Faith and Tim – if you haven’t watched their Showtime special from a couple years ago, do yourself a favor and look it up (I think someone ripped a copy to YouTube). Her harmonies on ‘Shotgun Rider’ are great.

Man, what a night to have been at 3rd and Lindsley. We got to see Mo recently in a little hole in the wall venue in Durant Ok. recently. I kept thinking how lucky we were to get to see him and that he should be playing a big tour. The Time Jumpers kill it every time they take the stage!
