Morgan Wallen Music Sales Skyrocket Amid Cancellation

For all intents and purposes, Morgan Wallen’s mainstream country music career is over. After being caught on camera using the ‘N’ word on Sunday evening (1-31) outside of his house in Nashville in an exchange with a friend, the country music community quickly distanced from the troubled performer.
Country music’s two major radio station owners—Cumulus and iHeartMedia—pulled all of Morgan Wallen’s music from their rotations, along with many other mid-sized and local radio outlets doing the same. CMT said they will not longer air Morgan Wallen media. The CMA released a statement distancing from Morgan Wallen, and the ACM Awards have declared Wallen ineligible for the upcoming round of 2021 awards. And perhaps most devastating to the 27-year-old, his label Big Loud Records has suspended his recording contract.
However, amid the effort to cancel Morgan Wallen and distance from his music—including many of the major digital music services such as Spotify and iTunes removing him from playlists and recommendations—current sales for his albums and songs are skyrocketing. Stimulated by fans both looking to support the performer, and from fears his music may be pulled off of streaming services entirely, sales of his songs and albums are dominating music.
Right now, four of the five top titles in all of music on the iTunes charts are Morgan Wallen selections. His recent release Dangerous: The Double Album, which was already the #1 album in all of music over the last three weeks, remains in the top spot. But more surprising, his previous album If I Know Me from 2018 is now in the second spot. Even more surprising, sales of a “clean” version of Dangerous: The Double Album are also spiking, bringing it into the 3rd spot, while his 2015 EP Stand Alone is currently in the 5th spot.
On the iTunes songs chart, it’s a similar situation. Morgan Wallen titles account for seven of the Top 10 songs at the time of this post, with #1 being Morgan Wallen’s “More Than My Hometown.” Granted, the iTunes charts are more a snapshot in time than they are a long-view version of sales and interest in titles. But it’s very plausible under the current trajectory that Morgan Wallen will absolutely dominate the all-genre charts when they are published next week, especially with the way sales and downloads are measured heavier that streams.
UPDATE: According to Billboard, sales for Morgan Wallen’s music have increased 339% since the incident, while radio play for him has fallen 71%.
It’s unlikely this torrid sales pace will persist beyond the next few days or, perhaps a week or two. But the fact that fans are purchasing a clean version of his current album to where it’s the 3rd highest-selling album in all of iTunes at the moment means there is something going on much deeper than a fire sale. Before Morgan Wallen was shut out of the mainstream, he was arguably the most popular artist in country, and one of the most popular in all of music. And with the stifling of Wallen’s voice, this is how fans are responding.
What also might be happening here is a musical version of The Streisand Effect, where censoring Morgan Wallen, or making him taboo, or forbidden, or hard to access is having the opposite result, similar to what we saw when Twitter and other big media platforms censored news from The New York Post on Joe Biden’s son Hunter right before the American Presidential election. The censorship resulted in a massive spike in traffic and interest to the outlet directly, specifically due to the effort to suppress it.
What this reaction says about the scruples of the individuals that would use the revelation of Morgan Wallen’s personal behavior to purchase his music is one thing. But it also should perhaps cause a re-evaluation in how we go about dealing with individuals who fall out of favor with societal norms. Often not allowing them to participate only pushes the individuals and their followers further towards fringe ideologies and extremism as they search for communities that will validate their opinions as opposed to refute them, all while not injuring the bottom dollar of the banished individual, but sometimes padding it.
Many Morgan Wallen fans have been pointing out that what he said is commonplace in hip-hop and among black people. Of course with the history of the ‘N’ word and it’s use to systemically demean others along racial lines, there is a reason it has become forbidden for white people to speak it, and not black people. Correcting these false notions is imperative. But you can’t, and won’t reach those people with that reasoning—or any other reasoning about racism—if you banish them from the public discourse. In fact, you’re likely to just codify and further entrench their ideology through this censorship and isolation.
As people are cheering on the cancellation of Morgan Wallen, it’s important to see the bigger picture. You can win the battle, and lose the war. Neither Morgan Wallen, nor his fans are going anywhere. They number in the millions, and will demand their voice be heard. And attempting to stifle it just might result in its amplification, as it has done so many times in similar scenarios, and as it has done so far with the sales for Morgan Wallen music.

I’m giving back the royalties he made me for recording “Cover Me Up!”
I’ll show that racist POS!!
I’ll meet you up here on the road, Morgan!!
February 4, 2021 @ 1:29 pm
Isbell really is pretentious enough to say that though
February 4, 2021 @ 1:54 pm
Oh he already put his two cents in, as everyone knew he would.
February 6, 2021 @ 7:59 am
Fuck the music industry, tellin you what to say what to do how to do it an when to do it, they wanna control you like a puppet only let you do what they want too an to this guy lve never heard of you BECAUSE of being in the mainstream shit fuck that stay independent fuck having someone else’s hands in my pockets
February 7, 2021 @ 12:42 pm
It. Was at his own house. People need to stop .it was his own space and home.what you do on your own time is your business.
February 7, 2021 @ 6:51 pm
I do agree with you. People need to mind their own business. Doesn’t change my opinion of Morgan Wallen.
February 8, 2021 @ 6:03 pm
Morgan Wallen should not be punished as severe as he has been. I would like to see the first person on this planet who hasn’t made a mistake in their life. He apologized. Since when did we stop accepting someone sincere apology. We are to forgive, learn and work to be a better person. Not condemned and ruining some young’s mans life long career!! This is ridiculous of all the consequences for 1 word that is offensive to many. I don’t see any of these other singers or big shots getting any punishment for offensive words that they say everyday! I’ll support Morgan and I will not listen to the radio stations that won’t play his music and won’t be watching no ACM or CMT shows! And I won’t be the only one that feels this way!
February 8, 2021 @ 11:04 pm
I like his music. No saying n word but the black use it on each other and no problem calling white people cracker etc . I’m sure he apologized. Let this young guy alone . He was drinking at the time
February 11, 2021 @ 12:46 pm
right…this would not be happening rn if his neighbor would have not done that
February 4, 2021 @ 5:23 pm
I love Jason’s pretentiousness. Somebody has to do it. May as well be him.
February 4, 2021 @ 9:04 pm
Jason Isbell is here to speak for all minorities… no need to worry about listening to their voice
There is nothing more important than ones ability to virtue signal
February 6, 2021 @ 8:30 am
So I see people on videos in white person face when there different color useing the word honkey cracker but I love Morgans music and wherever he sings it ill listen to it who stalks a man’s house and his privacy what he says in his own space this world has went to shit
February 5, 2021 @ 3:01 pm
Who in the first place had him on camera outside his house talking with a friend and then advertised it
February 6, 2021 @ 9:44 am
Do I detect the smell of burning butt flesh? Put some ice on it, buddy.
February 7, 2021 @ 10:14 am
Love how being anti-racist is now labeled pretentious.
February 10, 2021 @ 8:39 pm
This is wrong to ruin this talented young man’s whole career because of a word when clearly no malouse was intended and to the creepy neighbor who recorded this mind your own damn business I hope karma bites you extra hard for your nosieness and intentions of hurting someone may you be invested with camel fleas to the crotch.
February 4, 2021 @ 1:30 pm
You’re a big as racist as you think he is because you’re standing there cussing him and calling him a racist get damn fool it’s something you’re born and bred into ain’t nothing you can do about it you’re a racist just like he is and everyone in this country is everyone in this country gets pissed off about something somebody else done or said sleep with that
February 4, 2021 @ 2:44 pm
Get a hold of your punctuation there Poolman. That’s not the real Jason Isbell.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:42 pm
This may be one of the unintentionally hilarious things I’ve ever read on this site, and I’ve been around to see FGL fans, Thomas Rhett, and Bieber fans come here.
February 5, 2021 @ 12:09 am
i’m gonna have to file “get ahold of your punctuation there” alongside of “flatbread” as new insults
February 5, 2021 @ 10:57 am
sameeeeeeeeeeee oh lord im dead
February 5, 2021 @ 8:07 am
It’s probably that SOB Clyde trying to make Jason look bad. This is just the kind of shit that bitter, jealous motherfucker would pull, bless his heart.
February 6, 2021 @ 9:01 am
It is that simple. He was drunk and talking with his friends and recorded without his permission. So it was taken way out of context.
February 6, 2021 @ 11:04 am
I’m guessing this was meant for my comment below. Yes, it was recorded without his permission, but it was not taken out of context. He used the word as an affectionate, tongue-in-cheek insult toward his friend, just as he did with MFer. And the fact that he said the word in a strong Southern accent just puts an exclamation point on the bad optics.
Here’s the context of which I speak. In these present day United States, given our “white/black racial history,” white people can’t use that word. At all. Full stop. And I know that its use in hip hop makes the issue tricky for clueless dumbasses who might like hip hop, but tough shit. We can’t say it. And that’s a negligible price to pay, even if your ancestors “never owned slaves.”
February 8, 2021 @ 6:06 pm
Morgan Wallen should not be punished as severe as he has been. I would like to see the first person on this planet who hasn’t made a mistake in their life. He apologized. February 4, 2021 @ 3:54 pm
Ummmm, what??
February 6, 2021 @ 10:19 am
I was born and raised Catholic, Mr. Poolman. I haven’t been one for 48 years. Nobody is stuck with the beliefs they learned as a child. You make it sound like Wallen has no self-agency here
February 4, 2021 @ 8:22 pm
So what if he said a n word it’s not like everyone at some point do not say it so canceling his shit was wrong
February 5, 2021 @ 7:34 am
i can assure that most people (read decent) do not and have never used the n-word
February 7, 2021 @ 2:12 pm
As the fact checkers would say: “Let’s put that n-word in context, here, OK ?”
February 5, 2021 @ 12:52 pm
@Hope ford
Good grief. I say fuck about 100 times a day. I never say the n-word. In fact, I’m not sure I can. So please don’t assume we are dumbfucks like you.
Oh. 101.
February 6, 2021 @ 7:02 am
If I told you the “f” word offends me would you stop? No so the so called “n” word offended some people when he didnt even call anyone that, they should deal with it.
February 6, 2021 @ 8:22 am
Just that simple, huh? Unfortunately, there’s this little ol’ thing in the real world called context.
February 6, 2021 @ 9:34 am
Spoken like a white guy.
February 6, 2021 @ 11:32 am
Why thank you Rebecca. I’m proud of it too
February 6, 2021 @ 7:09 am
Yeah right
February 6, 2021 @ 6:19 pm
Its ridiculous what’s happening to him and his music. This is all blown way out of proportion. Movies and rap music have alot of the same language. Big deal. People should grow up. They should reinstate his music to radio immediately because its what his fans want.
February 7, 2021 @ 6:55 pm
Well said. His fans stand behind him.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:52 am
That’s just stupid. Who reprimands them when they call us cracker, hon key, white b., privileged, etc. this is just all wrong. You need to shut up Jason.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:41 am
What’s stupid is you thinking that it’s really Jason saying it.
February 6, 2021 @ 10:28 am
You aren’t able to see the difference between those things? Were you raised by Stormfront? I would not be surprised if you call yourself “blue eyes” so everybody knows that you’re a honky cracker.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:14 am
Morgan, you move on with your life you’re doing really well sometimes we make mistakes you’ve apologized that’s enough don’t let them tar and feather you. This is all ridiculous. White people I called names and treated badly. But not much is done about it. You’re a good guy don’t let this bring you down you have a lot of people who care about you. ????????
February 5, 2021 @ 9:02 pm
So honestly I don’t understand? A word that offends someone else huh? Weird because to Christians there offended by adultery and cursing and 100 other things. But there thoughts don’t matter, and 90% of people and especially celebrities do most of these things. We just turn our head. I only see agenda based off what hurts feelings. Look I don’t want to ever hurt people or use names that hurt others because I never want to see people belittled. What he did was wrong but honestly if I was him I would say I’m sorry (as he did) and if thats not enough. Then I would take that job and shove it but honestly I am trying to say this as nice as possible but when did we as a nation turn into little bitches ? Dont matter honestly because there ain’t enough vagisil for our country anymore. Honestly ill be a little disappointed if he tell them to screw off. morgan keep making that bad ass music I promise you ain’t done
February 6, 2021 @ 3:01 am
No one cares!
February 6, 2021 @ 7:18 am
Start making a list of music artists that raped women, and convicted or bribed and settled their way out – and no repercussions by labels and venues for them, this is total fake righteous positioning. Weak, weak. Call my family and friends any slur you want, we are tough enough to take it….society wake up – allow felons to prey on young teen women and then idolize them – but sink a guy for drunk slander. The punishments dont fit, weak weak and your wasting your positions of influence. No black person of strength gives two shits what Morgan says on his drunk nights out – they are laughing at the spineless puppets chirping about
February 7, 2021 @ 6:19 am
I honestly at this point don’t know which one between Wallen and Isbell is the most cringeworthy of the two. Maybe it’s a tie.
February 7, 2021 @ 3:32 pm
Hey idiot everyone makes mistakes and how come there are a million white rappers than say the N word and they don’t get shamed like Morgan walked is
February 10, 2021 @ 2:17 pm
HAHA…You predicted it. He actually just posted that he will be giving away all his money from the song.
February 10, 2021 @ 7:15 pm

February 10, 2021 @ 7:51 pm
That’s about the most childish thing I’ve heard your no better then Morgan
February 11, 2021 @ 12:37 pm
you have no way to talk to him like that i dont care what y’all ppl think at least he sung that song for you and that song is pretty all because Morgan wallen sung it so i dont care what yall think he is awesome and y’all cant be mad at him all bc he was drunk he said he would do better and thats it
February 27, 2021 @ 3:05 pm
Your words are so sad. I’m sure there has been a time in your life when you’ve said things or done things you wish you could redo. Hopefully when that happened, someone showed you love, grace and forgiveness. Think about that for awhile….. He was under the influence of alcohol and he screwed up. Things happen when you drink, that doesn’t mean he is a POS, he is a human being and we all fall short of GOD’s glory!
February 4, 2021 @ 1:31 pm
This is kind of beautiful to see. I don’t like this guy or what he said, but censorship (be it government or private business mandated), is not the answer.
He should ditch his label for “suspending” him. Fuck them and all the virtue signaling organizations that cowardly jumped on the bandwagon.
February 4, 2021 @ 1:52 pm
Censorship and business choosing not to do business with someone are not the same thing. Free speech only protects you from limitations by the government, it does not protect you from consequences for your actions.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:34 pm
Thus the deliberate mention of both, genius. But yes, thanks for the more than obvious clarification that this isn’t a 1A issue.
February 5, 2021 @ 7:23 am
From a philosophical perspective, free speech includes but is broader than the 1st Amendment protection from limitations by governemnt.
February 5, 2021 @ 2:04 pm
I started streaming his music in support. I hadn’t realized he had released a new album. It’s actually a really great album. Very little fluff, a few songs that aren’t really my thing, but mostly solid. One of the best I’ve listened to. I don’t condone saying stuff like that but regardless of your skin color, the word shouldn’t be allowed to be used by anyone. Black people don’t just use it in a friendly manner. So when they start cleaning up other stations and music, It will mean something.
February 5, 2021 @ 8:59 pm
Yes sir you’re exactly right I’m after this happened I’m in a big old post on Facebook the other day I’m talking about two and a half paragraphs I mean we’re not racist we love everybody and everyone the same we all bleed around but it sucks after so long while they’re doing the poor old Morgan Wallen is such a double standard when isn’t that what a double standard is someone else not to do something that you do yourself and they basically just contradicting their selfs I mean I don’t understand they use it everyday and songs and on the radio and everything else I swear I’ve heard it on the radio with the l man just like he said but they can say it every day talking to one another but whatever a white person does it it’s so long and so racist just like I said in my post to stop at the Capitol another day was bad yes but it was nothing like what happened in Washington and Wisconsin breaking into stores busting Windows setting stuff on fire desecrating our beautiful flag I mean they literally stood in the streets of our country and burnt the flag that flyies for our country there are soldiers has fought in died fo for where we can live here and the greatest country on the planet and they can stand there and burn the flag and think it’s okay after people has died for that place you can live here in a free country I think a lot of Americans has got two comfortable with how we live they don’t know how rough it is and other countries around the world Morgan Wallen did nothing but what people do in hip Hop every day or every other time after they say something to somebody if somebody like us does something like that and it’s just the worst thing since the Holocaust I just don’t understand I believe racism will never end until they stop the racism in between their self with everybody just wants to be treated fairly and that’s what job always screamed and now y’all took everything away from us and nothing is fair and people would read about the heritage of the South they would see they was want a hell of a lot more to it besides slavery the slavery was here two centuries before the Civil war ever started in 1861 people always want to be so quick to hating judge what they don’t understand I mean we was always told his kids growing up you can’t ask something of someone if you’re not willing and willing to do the same yourself everyone just wants to be treated fairly that’s what they scream for years but that was a slut people want to have their cake and eat it too I mean there’s also other things like that it welders so many certain things they say just like that word as slang but I believe there’s also so many other things and represents they make that if a white person was deliver to slim then be all over us calling us racist now that’s the only thing I don’t understand and never have about the whole situation but don’t that make it a double standard and make it to where they’re contradicting their self I don’t know you tell me y’all take care we love everyone God bless everyone I hope everyone has a better year this year take care if someone can please enlighten me a little thanks Bobby upstate South Carolina
February 6, 2021 @ 2:11 am
To Bobby Johnson, I disagree with how the Floyd riots turned out and cancel culture goes overboard, but there’s a difference in fighting for Civil rights and staging and insurrection. But the Floyd protesters/rioters didn’t make threats to gov officials because they didn’t like election results. Put yourself in a POC ‘s place. Some of their own businesses got destroyed.
February 6, 2021 @ 8:45 am
Let’s please not get off on talking about BLM and the Capitol riots. The topic at hand is contentious enough on its own. Let’s stick to it. Thanks!
February 6, 2021 @ 2:14 am

You know there are periods on the keyboard.
February 6, 2021 @ 10:23 am
You are the one that called it censorship. We also have the right of free association
February 4, 2021 @ 3:14 pm
Yes Sir, Mr. Cutter, I’ll drink to that.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:26 pm
His booking agent dumped him too. No one will touch him right now except the NAACP. They reached out to him to have a discussion. Now we get to see if he is going to make something of himself.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:38 pm
Is the NAACP going to reach out to Maxine Waters as well?
Tell she & Kamala they need to watch their inciting … Hmmm?
February 4, 2021 @ 5:43 pm
Let’s please not veer into politics Di. Thanks.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:54 pm
Roger that, Trig.
February 5, 2021 @ 6:22 am
Just what do you think this whole thing is about?
February 5, 2021 @ 10:11 am
Not about Maxine Waters.
February 5, 2021 @ 5:35 am
Irony is that I’ve seen far left celebs and artists do worse and much more racist actions and nothing happens to them….. ???? irony is that a certain group of people can now be openly racist and it’s deemed okay… shelf you’re outrage you’re nose has poop on it 🙂
February 6, 2021 @ 2:17 am
Fake Outrage@ Payback is a you know what huh? The Chics anyone? Cosby is a democrat and got canceld really fast.
February 6, 2021 @ 9:09 am
A. Roddy….
Cosby….. Are talking about Bill Cosby ?
February 6, 2021 @ 7:22 am
Can we honestly assume it’s because he was an open Trump supporter? I mean he called a white person that. I don’t like the word but let’s look at the context and his actions first.
June 11, 2021 @ 12:51 pm
Mr. Wallen has NEVER said or done anything that indicates he leans left or right….it is unfair to decide he is either. He seems NOT to be political at all. He is a proud son of a preacher, and is a believer. He is a very enjoyable singer. I heard him and LOVED his singing and his integrity as a singer when he sang rock songs —on the voice. He should have won….
February 5, 2021 @ 9:10 am
He was likely represented by WME or CAA, both left coast based woke agencies. Some independent will pick him up when the dust settles and be pocketing big fat 10% commissions…
February 4, 2021 @ 9:37 pm
How else would you propose people distance themselves from comments they disagree with? It’s not censorship – Wallen’s music is still available. It’s about sending a message that they don’t condone his behavior. Why should businesses continue to have relationships with people that blatantly defy social norms?
February 5, 2021 @ 10:08 am
We don’t condone their behavior either when they call us cracker, honkey, and worse. Who reprimands them? How many of them have lost their jobs for calling white people names ? Racism works both ways. It’s not one-sided.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:43 am
Nobody calls you that in your white enclave so settle down cracker.
February 5, 2021 @ 11:23 am
You’re nasty geaux
February 5, 2021 @ 2:39 pm
None of those words have the historical context of the n word. There’s a difference.
February 6, 2021 @ 12:26 pm
Seriously HE DIDN’T SAY IT RACIALLY!! THAT’S the difference he was basically saying take care of my “boy” If Morgan were black or mixed this NEVER would have even BEEN an issue!! That is the DOUBLE STANDARD THAT IS THE HYPOCRISY!! How long do we have to pay forward for slavery that White’s weren’t the only owner’s of? And Truly NOW adays.. We are ALL MUTTS!! There are so few “TRUE” 1 race left that’s why I don’t understand WHY people are letting the Democratic party put this Racial war between us All! Country Fans and Trump supporters ARE NOT white supremacist Haters!! I am SO TIRED of reading that.. Everyone is like oh R u surprised a country artist said the forbidden “N” Word?? If it’s so forbidden lead by example and STOP using it in every rap song and towards each other! I personally find the word extremely offensive and I won’t listen to songs that use that word! HOWEVER I am also tired of the DOUBLE standards and I feel what they are saying and doing to Morgan is beyond ridiculous! Go Independent make your own money!! But get alittle help with that drinking for your baby!! They grow up fast don’t miss it cuz you drank it away! Other than that F All This BS!!!
February 6, 2021 @ 10:32 am
How many white people were called “Honky” before being lynched? Black people have never held the kind of power over white people’s lives that white people have had historically and even now, over theirs.
February 6, 2021 @ 12:58 am
Were you at the front of the line to buy the Dixie Chicks albums in the early 2000s? Since they too were cancelled for something they said?
I don’t understand how so many people here do not believe in accountability. If you call someone racist slur, you will likely lose your job. That’s not cancel culture. That’s the way good companies operate.
It doesn’t mean Morgan can’t change or become a better person. It simply means there was a consequence for his actions.
February 6, 2021 @ 7:24 am
The difference between the Dixie Chicks is they put down the US government in another country and they were not likable. She ran her mouth like she was proud. Morgan apologized. No comparison
February 6, 2021 @ 8:41 am
The Dixie Chicks apologized as well. Multiple times.
February 6, 2021 @ 8:51 am
People are supporting Morgan because they say they hate cancel culture. So why didn’t they support the Dixie Chicks? Both artists were blackballed from radio for reasons unrelated to their music. Isn’t that what you guys are so upset about?
It sounds like people hate cancel culture except when artists are blackballed for reasons they agree with.
February 8, 2021 @ 1:10 am
I think just to qualify to voice an opinion on racism should have two years of prison experience. There is just no other way for you to know how ridiculous you sound.
February 4, 2021 @ 1:34 pm
Justin Bieber is still on the radio. Morgan will be back.
February 11, 2021 @ 12:39 pm
i hope so boe bc i cried for hours lol
February 4, 2021 @ 1:38 pm
Just thinking about some things we may get to see. Who is the owner of his social media and webpage? That could get awkward if he does not down the road. Assuming it is him and all will be ok on his end but for him what if it isn’t.
February 4, 2021 @ 1:42 pm
In the words of his SNL skit…..”Here’s to no consequences”
I am more offended by how incredibly stupid this guy is. He got another shot to perform in prime time after his Covid fiasco and now this. I guess the world is full of people who squander an opportunity. But you are right, his fans will remain.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:47 pm
Good point. His sales spiking after “cancellation” is just another way for Morgan Wallen to not be held accountable, though I think in the long term, the repercussions will be major.
February 4, 2021 @ 7:25 pm
Wrong Trig. Reasonable people and/or fans are looking at this and realizing it is a pretty dumb mistake on his part. But still like and enjoy his music so they are supporting him in light of a mistake and error in judgment he made. He was drunk and said some stupid things, many of us have as well. But they are not abandoning him completely because they look at the situation in a calm manner and realize it’s one mistake of spoken word, not a murder. Kid is young and deserves the ability to atone. We all do at that age. Let’s allow him to apologize and make up for it. I don’t think Morgan Wallen is somebody we won’t still be talking about in 15 years. He appeals to a large audience for a reason. And that reason is not racism.
February 5, 2021 @ 8:17 pm
Already being swept under the rug by his label. This is Big Loud CEO’s girlfriend. They are making it about him instead of the people he denigrated. The outrage was just a show. Just another day in Nashville. Judging by the likes on this, none of these people buy into issues of race problems in country music with any seriousness. Everyone from artists to songwriters to photographers… poor Morgan. https://www.instagram.com/p/CK67MuohXxl/
February 6, 2021 @ 3:46 pm
I’m so glad you posted this. I’ll stop arguing with the contributors of this site now. Your Instagram post is heartwarming and I’m glad to know there are people like you out there, especially in positions of influence.
February 5, 2021 @ 8:19 pm
He’ll be back in 6 months. 12 max.
February 5, 2021 @ 5:12 pm
Lost in all this is the fact that he’s spiraling out of control and needs help.
He’s engaging in self-destructive behavior.
He needs to be in treatment.
I certainly did at his age.
I couldn’t care less about his language.
February 4, 2021 @ 1:57 pm
All press is good press… Until it turns to no press. I think he can maybe eek out 1 or 2 more hits after this, but if the institutional resistance persists after his next album cycle he’s effectively done as a mainstream star. For a hip-hop example, see 6ix9ine, who lost all his support and with it, his career.
I agree that cancellation isn’t the most nuanced approach to these matters, but I understand why it happens. It’s exhausting to both deal with the damage discrimination causes and then explain, debate, and educate the (often hostile) ‘other side.’ And there’s tremendous incentive for stars to apologize without meaning it. I saw quite a few posts by black people who had liked Morgan and were hurt by his outburst. It will be hard for those people to forgive him.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:17 pm
Morgan’s situation is, ahem, “minor” compared to 6ix9ine’s offenses.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:48 pm
There will not be one or two more hits for Morgan Wallen, unless they come years from now. Radio won’t play him, his label has cancelled his contract and won’t promote him. He’s radioactive. The best he can hope for is a redemption moment in the future.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:48 pm
MH, I’m not comparing their offenses. I just used 6ix9ine as an example of what could happen to Morgan if the music industry continues to resist him as they do 6ix9ine.
Which also speaks to your response, Trigger. 6ix9ine was able to get a hit of sorts after his jail time because of his fan base + pent up public interest. Hip hop and country don’t have the same revenue portfolio, but it shows what a controversy and a devoted following can accomplish. It’s a vanishing achievement, though. The kind of sustained streaming/buying/radio play that keeps something atop the charts for weeks and months? Yeah, that’s probably dead. A 1-2 week stint at number 1? I think he can accomplish that. He’ll certainly try.
February 6, 2021 @ 10:44 am
Saying N***a to your other white friend is a stupid, middle-school’ish type edgy humor. He was also secretly recorded. He didn’t say this on a public platform and he didn’t say this to a black person. The reason I keep saying Savingcountrymusic is a bunch of Karen’s, and many agree, is that you guys saying this latest incident of Morgan’s proves he’s a problem child and this is his last strike. His other listed offenses here are his drunk and disorderly arrest, and his making out with coeds in December. He’s also been vocal about his disapproval of the lockdowns. Neither of those two aforementioned incidents having anything to do with being racist…yet somehow on the whiteboards of your minds you’re drawing a connection. This is also the smartphone era where it’s significantly easier to record and document forever any “transgressions.” Who in their early 20’s hasn’t said or done dumb crap, and without the sudden fame and access to excesses that Morgan now has??
And you initially responded to me rudely yet somehow expected me to treat you with the utmost respect.
February 6, 2021 @ 12:43 pm
I don’t expect you to treat me with respect. If you’re going to reply, I expect you to engage with my ideas – politely or impolitely. I’m not interested in your middle schoolish edgy humor, which is what you opened with. Now that you want to get serious, let’s go.
Let’s start with middle school. Morgan Wallen is a 27 year old man. He’s not a child, and he’s not even in his early 20s. He was in public at the time of this recording, just as he was with the other two incidents. He should know better than to do this mess in private, let alone on the street or in a bar.
But you confuse the issue. His other incidents don’t make him out to be a racist, they make him out to be a bad celebrity and a not-so-great person. He’s just not good at this game, which has less to do with him being a racist and more to do with him being flat-out bad at his job. What does explain the charge of racism is his use of racial slurs, which he should have aged out of using 15 years ago.
February 6, 2021 @ 3:16 pm
Funny how the top country greats of the past like George Jones, Johnny Paycheck, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc were saint and perfect people to fit in the squeaky clean PR friendly role.
What changed to where people in the mainstream of country have to be perfect angels rather than judged by the material they put out? Funny I’m having to have this discussion with a contributor of a website called “Saving Country music”
February 6, 2021 @ 4:17 pm
What changed? Society. You believe that’s a bad thing. I believe that’s a good thing. I don’t want to return to 60s America, when many of those artists were in their prime. If country needs a truly racist society to thrive, that would suggest a racism problem we might want to fix. But it sounds like you’re fine with that as long as you get songs you like. Art over values.
February 6, 2021 @ 4:35 pm
Holy cow man you keep moving the goal post. One moment “drunk and disorderly” and “not quarantining” doesn’t mean he’s racist, next moment it means he’s racist. And also anyone who disagrees with this is also racist. You keep arbitrarily trying in his past issues with his current N word usage.
At first I thought you were just an overly emotional social justice warrior. Now I can see that you just aren’t that bright of a person. And as for your racist accusations against me….Go fornicate yourself.
February 6, 2021 @ 5:17 pm
Is it possible for a strawman to be both flimsy yet massive? Your response says yes. I never even remotely implied his past incidents made him a racist. You brought them up in the first place, so I provided context. Either learn read or learn to stop lying.
I’ll take the second part as a concession. You can’t string together a solid argument, so make your excuses now and be finished like you said you would. But we already know you have a problem with honesty. Just another moral failing to add to the list.
February 4, 2021 @ 6:40 pm
It is interesting to speculate what would happen a year from now if Morgan releases a song on his own through YouTube and his fans really get behind it. Would radio try and ignore it. It is not like they benefit from doing so, they’re only potentially alienating listeners.
February 5, 2021 @ 7:49 am
Country radio has been ignoring great artists with big online followings for years.
February 4, 2021 @ 11:59 pm
Black artists need to be held to account for using the N word and systematically oppressing themselves.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:09 am
This is the type of nonsense that reflects very badly on country music and its listeners. How many comments like this before people can acknowledge that maybe the problem isn’t black people turning an ugly word on its head; it’s the many white people who claim they don’t like it but still think it’s fine when they use it?
February 5, 2021 @ 10:38 am
Oh Sandman, so once again it’s the white people’s fault. Nah.
February 5, 2021 @ 11:15 am
Can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.
February 5, 2021 @ 12:05 pm
This is the problem with you narcissistic, virtue signaling left-leaning people. I’m not claiming it’s “ok.” Not everyone looks at social justice issues in black and white, binary ways. Most level-headed people recognize the nuance here that there are varying degrees of “offense” with the use of the N word. Again I’m not justifying it, but how can we move forward when a minor offense, yes minor in Wallen’s case, is treated like a modern day lynching?
February 5, 2021 @ 12:34 pm
You wanted to get your crappy jokes off about black people oppressing themselves. There’s nothing level-headed, nuanced, or rational about your silly hot-take. Don’t pretend otherwise.
You want to talk substance now? Sounds good. Morgan Wallen said 100% the wrong thing and he’s facing the consequences, just like any person would if they had said a racial slur and had a video of it sent to their boss.
Morgan Wallen hasn’t been censored or lynched. His songs, music videos, and all other promotional content from before this are still out there, accessible as ever. What has shifted is the consumption model. The media isn’t going to spoon-feed everyone his music anymore. You’ve got to actively seek it out now. As this article shows, plenty of people are doing just that.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:51 pm
My “crappy joke” got a hell of a lot more ‘likes’ than any of your comments. Savingcountrymusic has devolved into a bunch of Cancel-culture Karen’s.
February 5, 2021 @ 2:10 pm
^My point. Many of the supposedly non-racist country music listeners of this site sure do support a lot of ugly content. Keep up the bad work.
February 5, 2021 @ 2:56 pm
Sandman, you really just called everyone who disagrees your exact take on this a racist?? You keep proving that you are woefully unqualified to engage in this discussion in a nuanced and fair manner. You deserve a gold star for your ability to engage in a purely emotionally way on the issue that is no different from any blue-haired keyboard warrior on Twitter.
February 5, 2021 @ 3:36 pm
I replied to you substantively and you responded by bragging about your Internet points. Since you care so much, I hand my gold star back to you; you clearly need it more than I.
Let me know when you’re ready to respond to my points. If that happens, I’ll even upvote you myself.
February 5, 2021 @ 3:49 pm
…Substantively my ass. In my previous comment I said “I’m not saying what Wallen said was right.” Nothing in your following remarks reflected you even read and understood that. You are just butthurt that the majority of your readers are bleeding hearts to the degree that you are.
February 5, 2021 @ 4:08 pm
I responded to the direct question in your post while you continued to go on about hair dye, keyboard warriors, and Twitter. You care so much about upvotes and presentation that you won’t even express your ideas in the relative conservative safe space of this forum.
“I’m not saying it’s ok”… Then what are you saying? Come up with something better than a joke and you might get even MORE upvotes.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:17 am
Nah…
February 4, 2021 @ 2:02 pm
You are extremely naive if you think Wallen’s mainstream career is absolutely over. Sure people will back off of him for a while, but as this article shows, there’s still a lot of money to be made on the Morgan Wallen train. He’s young, give it 3 years max, with a good PR campaign and he’ll be back to making mediocre music all over again for the masses.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:22 pm
Exactly. MW isn’t going anywhere, he’ll be headlining tours before we know it.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:50 pm
Morgan Wallen’s mainstream career IS over. For now. Perhaps there will be a path for redemption in the future. That was part of the point of this article. But it doesn’t change the current prognosis.
February 4, 2021 @ 4:00 pm
Saying his mainstream career is over “for now” is ambiguous, though. Maybe it takes 3 months or a year but he will be back. A lot of his fans see nothing wrong with what he did and support him 100% (which is concerning, but that’s a different conversation). At the end of the day supply will insert itself where there is demand. And there is clearly demand for Morgan Wallen right now.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:00 pm
It won’t be three months. It won’t be a year. I’m not saying he can’t work. I’m not saying he won’t tour. But radio won’t play him, major festivals and promoters won’t work with him. I’m not trying to dunk on the guy. I’m just giving an honest evaluation. He rehabilitation—if it happens—will be measured in years.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:41 pm
Festivals won’t take him this year and maybe not the next, but the year after that someone will take the risk of promoting him because they know it will sell tickets. Again there will have to be a lot of PR work done in the mean time but there is way too much money on the table for this to be completely over.
Everyone is outraged on this until it’s time to be outraged about the next thing
February 5, 2021 @ 11:31 am
By His career is over for now do you mean for yesterday??….As of today, yes his radio airplay is down 70%ish…..But His streaming and sales are up 340%..75% of the money comes from streaming…..about 2% from broadcast radio….and he was already at #1 for the last three weeks….sooo……
February 5, 2021 @ 11:37 am
You’re citing me the stats I included in this article. Without mainstream radio play, awards shows, major booking, you don’t have a mainstream career. That doesn’t mean you don’t have a career, period. Look at Sturgill Simpson and Cody Jinks. I’m not putting Morgan Wallen down. I’m making an honest assessment.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:07 pm
The ironic thing on the Spotify top song list is that Morgan Wallen is the only one in the Top 20 whose songs are not explicate.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:08 pm
MW will be back touring, on the radio, and everything else once the dust has settled. The dude just has to lay low for a bit. As long as he can generate money, there will always be someone, somewhere to exploit that, for better or worse.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:23 pm
Probably true
February 4, 2021 @ 2:20 pm
The question isn’t whether he stays or goes. The question is what he does with this. I’m expecting him to disappoint.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:23 pm
It’s almost like he wasn’t cancelled, and the whole premise of your headline is a lie. How about racism causes sales to skyrocket. Or country music fans continue to not care about racism.
Morgan wallen deserves consequences, but pretending he’s an anomaly in country music (industry, fans, etc) means the industry never moves forward
February 4, 2021 @ 2:26 pm
Also Morgan still has several headlining gigs booked for this summer and an opening slot on Luke Bryan’s tour, none of which has been pulled.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:01 pm
He just got dropped by WME. He won’t be landing any major gigs for years.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:58 am
It is wrong about the N word but this was from a house camera so why is this so important. He has a right to a life outside of country music. I am sure this has happen to other people when they had one to many.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:57 pm
Morgan Wallen getting caught on camera saying the ‘N’ word is not what caused his sales to spike. It was being canceled. It also might be that—as it says in the article—fans are looking beyond this personal behavior to support an artist they like. The ultimate question is if this is the best way to solve this problem, or are we making a folk hero out of Morgan by attempting to cancel him? I think this is a very serious question, and I’m not taking any sides here.
February 4, 2021 @ 4:23 pm
Here are some things that haven’t happened to Morgan Wallen:
1. His songs have not been pulled from sales or streaming
2. his label deal has not been cancelled (it has been suspended )
3. He has not been arrested, his freedoms have not been curtailed in any way
Morgan Wallen hasn’t been cancelled, he is facing professional consequences for his actions.
Portions of the country community have set a boundary, and said those who say something like that, are outside the bounds of what we consider acceptable in the community. Boundaries and consequences are healthy, and they are necessary.
What is happening with the sales is a whole bunch of country fans are saying, we don’t think this boundary is in an appropriate place. We think he should not face real consequences for saying N*. Why they think that is worthy of more examination.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:19 pm
….”How about racism causes sales to skyrocket. Or country music fans continue to not care about racism.”…..
Because it’s not racism, silly. Racism is an ideology.
But please, please tell me that you and everyone you know is going to stop buying records made in Trashville. That would make my day.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:51 pm
“How about racism causes sales to skyrocket. Or country music fans continue to not care about racism.”
Seek help, Seak.
Rappers: We can say it but white people can’t. It’s our word now. We don’t want white people buying our music.
White People: Ok. We’ll take our money elsewhere.
(Rappers’ music sales decline)
Rappers: WAIT! Just kidding!! We LOVE white people!!
February 4, 2021 @ 5:01 pm
I’m pretty sure Tyler, Cody, Corb, and a thousand other country musicians will be able to move forward just fine.
Why do you group country music into one total thing, seak, hm?
February 4, 2021 @ 2:24 pm
TMZ is a damn joke anyways. They’re always out to exploit everyone they can for a tv show! Should be canceled anyways!!
And shame on whomever was “recording” this crap. What if he called that person a “honky” or a “cracker”???
no one blows up about that!! Nope gotta make a big ol production! All lives matter… period
February 5, 2021 @ 11:41 am
The neighbor recording this crap was woken up by a loud and obnoxious group of people in the middle of the night. They had every right to record this! If Morgan hadn’t been yelling stupid crap at the top of this lungs, waking people up, this wouldn’t have been an issue. Also…where in the world do you see people of any color calling anyone “honkey” or “cracker” – seriously! Is this All in the Family circa 1977? And, it is common knowledge that good people, of both colors, do not use the N word. I love how people are saying “if they can say it, so can we.” I doubt that “all” black people use this word on a daily basis.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:54 pm
So basically the neighbor was a cry baby and chose to record the BS going on outside cause it woke him up… yada yada. Whatever.
Nope just used social media as another way to interfere with someones life! And if the “racial slur” wasn’t heard it would have never been broadcasted for the whole world to judge!
Shit like that gets said about “all” ppl on a daily basis, I’m sure.
I don’t feel like i need to justify my opinion to you. Like I said ALL LIVES MATTER…period!
Everyone downgrades everyone at some point in their lives. Even “good” ppl! Black, white, Mexican, asian, …..etc!
And yes I have heard that term thrown out like “cracker” and “honky” so clearly you don’t know, that’s why I said it to begin with!
But like I said noone films it and throws a damn fit about it.
February 5, 2021 @ 2:29 pm
It is glaringly obvious that you have not spent much, if any time, in Miami, Florida.
Being non-Cuban, you can hear the word cracker thrown about now & then (daily)
A couple pissant Cuban males were talking about crackers (not Ritz), one evening in the line in front of me. When one of them gathered enough balls and cut a look peripherally, i gave him a dazzling smile, pointed, & said, Cuba is that way.
My Cubano friends, who own the Marathon station, tore the living hell out of them, when they got to the register.
We didn’t discuss it thirty ways to hell & back. We gently took care of it.
No biggie.
February 5, 2021 @ 7:23 pm
Di, I think I might be in love with you. 😉
February 5, 2021 @ 7:49 pm
OhMyGosh,
Have laughed my behind of all day.
Have a comment to Honky that is currently awaiting moderation (nothing new, under the sun).
Just hate to think of Honky going to bed out there, somewhere, pouting. : D
In between making a spinach/swiss/bacon quiche for the neighbors, and STILL trying to get a couple of Duncan Phyfe chairs to look cool, keep tuning into SCM, so don’t miss anything.
Thanks Jimmy, that was fun & funny.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:24 pm
And all of this cancel stuff is whiny bullshit. If Wallen goes to rehab and/or does something sincerely, like Kyle Larson did, they will welcome their little mullet moneymaker back in a nanosecond. Well, maybe not the Black executives at Big Loud, but someone will.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:32 pm
Do I believe Morgan Wallen is a racist? No, I really don’t think so. Stupid, big-mouthed and probably can’t control it when drinking? Sure. But if you’re truly concerned about racially insensitive words being in the public discourse, then don’t tape your neighbor and post it online in an obviously malicious attempt to destroy their life and career. I don’t condone what Wallen said, but the neighbor didn’t exactly have a pure motive for true social justice either.
I’m sick of the cancel culture and excoriating people for their right to speak – whether we agree or not. And it usually backfires…Ask Goya. Or MyPillow, where sales or way up. People are just buying direct instead of giving left-wing liberal stores their business. Good for them.
Wallen should sue and get his recording contract officially cancelled and market his music himself. Give the middle finger to the industry and awards shows…he doesn’t need them. He’s not my favorite artist by far, and he may not be too smart…but he has the right to make a living without abuse from a vicious neighbor and the bats*it crazy woke left. 2024 can’t get here soon enough.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:06 pm
According to some, if Wallen is making more than someone else, that’s an “inequity” and therefore “racist.” I know it’s stupid and anti-rational, but people use it as a weapon and some apparently even believe it.
February 5, 2021 @ 12:19 pm
Look what happened to the Dixie Chicks. Oh excuse me, Dixie is racist. Look what happened to the Chicks. Oh excuse me again, chicks is a slam on women. Look what happened to The. ????????????????????
February 4, 2021 @ 8:21 pm
I’m with you on the neighbor problem. I mean, I sure wouldn’t want to live next door to someone like Wallen, but the neighbor is a snitch. And we all know what happens to snitches. Let’s take it back to grade school – a kid who tells on another kid is a dead kid.
The rise of social media has turned Americans into a bunch of big tattletales. That’s the real problem in this country.
February 4, 2021 @ 9:44 pm
Your advocating the killing of snitches? You hate snitches because you like to be able get away with things with no consequences?
February 5, 2021 @ 4:44 am
Obviously, there is a line. Reporting criminal acts is one thing. To quote a classic film, “This isn’t Nam, Smokey. There are rules.”
But when you play tattletale to the internet for a non-crime…you are a despicable person. I like nothing about Wallen before or after this event, but the neighbor is even worse.
February 6, 2021 @ 12:21 am
Couldn’t have said it better myself
February 6, 2021 @ 11:33 pm
To me, cancel culture is digging up a 10 year old video to defame someone. This video is something that just happened, and in a public setting.
Note that Morgan has not been arrested, is not going to prison, can still vote, and is still being hosted on Spotify. That’s hardly being cancelled.
He simply is being held accountable for his actions by a few private companies that determined his actions to be fireable offenses.
When did the political right become so against accountability?
February 4, 2021 @ 2:42 pm
I guess I can look it up, but in what context did he say the word…and was there a hard ‘r’ at the end? In all seriousness, I think there are younger white kids who try to use the word like they would hear in rap songs and it’s not coming from a racist place (a stupid place, but not racist), however, someone 27 years old should absolutely know better.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:49 pm
I just saw Trig’s other article and have the context. The context is he’s an absolute idiot, not necessarily racist.
February 5, 2021 @ 3:54 am
Yep…but it’s not like he’s 17, haha.
February 4, 2021 @ 4:11 pm
No, it was the slang version that has a different meaning than what is being portrayed. Just as you hear in every rap song, but because he is white, he cannot say it.. so I am being told.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:51 pm
What he said was bad, but it’s a word. A terrible word, but a word none the less. Meanwhile, celebrities flaunt luxury goods, and are sponsored by companies that make billions off slave labor. This is worse than a word, this action is literally causing death and damage of lives to the worse degree. The problem is, as long as you keep your nose clean and post about how much you love minorities, you can contribute to as much destruction as you want. You just have to make sure you’re playing the game. Lebron James makes millions from Nike and promotes social justice, while slaves are making his shoes. It’s really disgusting. This is not political. This is the truth and it needs to be recognized.
February 4, 2021 @ 2:59 pm
Kinda puts the “selective” in selective moral outrage.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:45 pm
Claiming that Lebron James’ shoe deal has been the cause of death and that he personally profits from slave labor is a heavy accusation. Maybe I am naïve, but I am a skeptical of your assertion.
February 4, 2021 @ 8:32 pm
Nike products are made using slave labor. Many companies do. Some high end luxury companies are the worst. He contributes to it.
February 5, 2021 @ 6:31 am
You are incredibly naive. Perhaps you should do a little research into Lebron James, his political philosophies and the entire Nike involvement (Along with others) and China.
February 5, 2021 @ 5:08 pm
Why should I research this? I am not making a public statement that Lebron is or isn’t a de facto slaveholder and I don’t buy his shoes. I didn’t disagree with the statement, I just said I was skeptical and was being honest that its a subject I am not well versed in. What Mr. Carll23 is saying could be an accurate picture of Lebron James’ business. I don’t live under a rock, if you promote or even purchase something manufactured in China you could be benefiting from exploited labor; same thing if you buy vegetables from Mexico. But that is a heavy accusation to make just like accusing someone of being a racist.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:18 am
“Maybe I am naïve, but I am a skeptical of your assertion.”
Yep, you’re naive.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:03 pm
I may not like the guy but good for him and his sales. Cancelling someone is the stupidest thing ever. People say stupid things. Deal with it.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:09 pm
Funny thing is if Wallen was a black man, nobody would bat an eye.
February 4, 2021 @ 4:12 pm
If Lil Nas X was caught on film telling someone to get that “pussy-ass crackuh”, a hurricane would start in the Gulf Coast and demolish West Africa due to all the batting of eyes…
February 4, 2021 @ 5:03 pm
Thats not true, because this past season one of the black NBA players screamed at a white player that he was a p#ssy ass white boy and no one care at all.
February 4, 2021 @ 8:50 pm
….So he didn’t use a racial slur, in other words?
February 5, 2021 @ 9:26 am
Because the player was a nobody. I know what incident you’re talking about, and I was just as outraged. It didn’t blow up, because most people didn’t even know who the hell he is.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:20 pm
I avoided this guy until I listen to his last album and like 2 or 3 tracks on it. Music is pretty forgettable. I don’t really have a comment on his future. It will be interesting to see what happens. Will this guy be allowed to make music, sell concert tickets, merch? Will he be wiped from the industry? He seems to really be struggling with his fame. No excuse for saying what he said. We all say crap we wish we didn’t. This guy will likely really regret this past year for the rest of his life. I really can’t think of anyone else who was such a big star that ended their career over night. This a weird one where you think he will be cancelled but you have to wonder if the money making will keep him in the business.

I never heard of him before the SNL situation. I hadn’t thought about him since then, until this Monday. I don’t know what that says about him, me or country music.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:32 pm
nothing shows the detractors that country music definitely isn’t racist more than supporting the guy who just said the n-word!
February 4, 2021 @ 6:16 pm
You’ll never “show the detractors” anything.
They’ve already made up their mind.
February 5, 2021 @ 11:17 am
Does this mean Rap will be gone and cancelled also? I mean every song uses the “N” word 23 times! You can’t say buy our music but if you repeat our lyrics your a racist. Until this double standard is addressed nothing will be changed. I grew up in the rural country and some of my best childhood friends were black because their parents were my parents friends, coworkers and neighbors. We hung out everyday playing ball listening to Country music and Rap. Kids pick up the lingo from these songs and thinks its ok cause they idolize Tupac and JayZ. They try to act cool just like them. Then they go to another place in the world thinking that its all the same and have their lives ruined for nothing. Wallen should apologize for what he said because regardless of his state of sobriety he was wrong. But so should every other artist who uses this in their songs or says it.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:32 pm
The type of mainstream country fans who like Morgan Wallen invented cancel culture back in 2003. I’m glad to see it come full circle and hear them cry about it now that an artist they like is involved.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:23 am
The mainstream country radio stations started it.
Research is good for the soul.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:36 pm
“Morgan Wallen’s mainstream country music career is over.”
I’m not sure that that’s true, but that epitomizes the absurdity of the cancel culture.
Let’s just say that a white bro yelling “p***y-a**-N-word” at another white pal in a parking lot is a crime (though it really isn’t.) OK, now how BIG a crime are we going to declare it to be. Is it a bigger crime than burglary? Than drunk driving? Than wife/girlfriend-beating? Than statutory rape? Than gang assault/assault with a weapon?
Country music or other musical artists, actors, and professional athletes have done all of those things, even been convicted and sent to prison for it, but it did not end their “mainstream” careers.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:37 pm
…….. “Many Morgan Wallen fans have been pointing out that what he said is commonplace in hip-hop and among black people.”……….
It’s not just among black people. I’m just a middle-aged honky, and even I know that. Young city people of all races use this word toward each other in a variety of ways. How do you lilly-millies not know that?
February 5, 2021 @ 12:31 pm
I mean, yes, but *for the most part* the black community isn’t really down with that. Most black folks don’t actually want non-black people to be using the word like they do.
The exception, apparently, is New York City, where Latinos have historically also received privileges to the word. 6ix9ine’s videos are an indication that this rule still applies in at least some parts of the city.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:44 pm
I’m not surprised, and I forgive Wallen for his callousness, stupidity, and immaturity. But there are plenty other potential young leaders in country music, and Wallen has proven himself not to be one of them. And before anyone goes on about Hank Sr., Hank Sr. wrote his own music. Wallen is only a singer. Plenty of fish in that sea.
February 4, 2021 @ 8:49 pm
I am not getting involved here other to say Morgan Wallen at this point probably needs to but the bottle down. I would like a quick fact check though… Wallen co-wrote 15 or more of the tracks on his All-Genre #1 Double Album. Also he co-wrote his last three #1 songs. There could be a fair question if he is country, or if he you care for his style of music. I am not sure we can totally call him a talentless hack, just my two cents.
February 5, 2021 @ 7:59 am
Fair enough, but he doesn’t present himself, or is presented by others, as a songwriter.
February 4, 2021 @ 3:46 pm
Trigger,
Remember when ABC cancelled the Roseanne revival.
And cable tv & syndication dropped reruns from airing.
This happened in May 2018 & by October, TVLand, CMT & others began airing the show in continuous syndication.
** Won’t the same thing happen to Morgan at radio??
Maybe he takes a 6 month break after an apology tour of sorts.
He’ll be back at radio by August & his label will push “Sand in my Boots” – I’m calling it now
February 4, 2021 @ 8:05 pm
I think you’re right. Sand in my Boots is a summertime money maker. He will be back by then.
February 4, 2021 @ 8:51 pm
Please remember my comment.
in August, I’ll be needing eye witnesses
February 4, 2021 @ 3:53 pm
Without major label backing and marketing, Wallen will eventually lose popularity, because his music sucks. He’s being cancelled by the major woke business establishment, even if it may take a minute for him to feel the full effect. But answering the question of why conservatives feel the need to rally around this guy is beyond my comprehension. What conservative value/s does this idiot represent that need protection?
And when will conservatives understand that cancel culture in the U.S. did not start with the Left? This goes all the way back to the Palmer raids of the ’30s, on to the McCarthy hearings in the ’50s, continuing with the beginnings of the culture wars started by the then CONSERVATIVE media establishment in the mid ’60s when they started going after John Lennon; Sinead O’Connor in the 80’s, and the Dixie Chicks in the 00’s.
To act like this is a phenomenon of the Left is completely ignorant. People on both sides sometimes say stuff someone is not going to like. The best way to protest something these days is to not engage with that person. Call the foul and then move on.
Celebrity is the modern idolatry, and just like every other idol in the bible and our history books, there’s a rise and a fall. It’s all a farce.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:18 pm
Bible.
February 4, 2021 @ 7:12 pm
bible?
February 5, 2021 @ 10:15 am
Who says everyone buying his music is conservative?
February 5, 2021 @ 2:01 pm
SERIOUSLY, you’re comparing this situation to the McCarthy hearings and saying THEY were the original “cancel culture”?? He was doing a service to America by weeding out Communists. All Morgan Wallen did was act like an ignorant fool & do several atupid things over the past year. I STILL think his DUI arrest by FAR was the worst & MOST potentially dangerous act he committed. But I’m just a racist right-wing conservative Christian white man, all being “evil” groups. So why should my opinions or comments matter…
February 4, 2021 @ 4:22 pm
Trigger,
I think I left one more comment regarding the understanding and use of that word by different cultures. It was a point that I don’t think many people here are aware of. Did you miss it, or did you censor it?
February 4, 2021 @ 4:54 pm
Honky, I didn’t like your insinuation about “hillbillies.” I think you were stereotyping numerous groups negatively and unfairly, and that’s not where this discussion needs to go.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:06 pm
Those aren’t stereotypes. That’s the reality of the people and culture I come from. If you’re upset about the word ‘hillbillies’, will you allow me to make the point without using that word? I think you failed to understand the point, because it wasn’t a negative one.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:31 pm
Trigger,
Will you allow me to make this point with different wording? It’s an important point that is being left out.
February 4, 2021 @ 5:46 pm
You can try, but quit acting like I’m at your beckoned call. As you can tell, lots of comments, and lots of things happening.
February 5, 2021 @ 6:03 am
Your beckoned call? Ha. Don’t blame me for wanting to talk freely like everyone else. You have me on permanent moderation; that’s your fault, not mine.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:32 am
I’m perma-moderated as well, and I have a feeling there’s a long list of people in the same boat. Stop pouting about it, Honky.
February 6, 2021 @ 7:15 am
I could totally understand if he ised the ACTUAL N Word and not the slang that alot of guys (black and white) call their friends.. I would EVEN more understand if this was racially motivated situattion. He did not out of hate call a black person that word, he called his WHITE friend the slang version.
Like I said if it would have been to or at a person of color then BY ALL MEANS. But to react in this manner in a NON RACIALLY MOTIVATED MANNER is ridiculous.
I know the word is offensive BUT then it shouldn’t be said by anyone!
I had a situation one time that I found a dog was locked in a hot car . A young black man pulled up and his radio BLARING a song that said that word about everyother word. The man was very nice and walked up to talk to me and asked what he could do to help.
My 5 year old daughter was in my car Ac running, windows down watching. I said to him, “thank you, but the first thing you can do is turn that damn music off so my 5 year old, who has NEVER heard that word doesn’t repeat that word that she learned from YOUR car because WE do NOT speak or allow that word in my home. We have black friends we consider family and we have Black family and mixed family as well. So again We do not allow that word . And wouldn’t it be TERRIBLE if she learned that word FROM YOUR CAR, then said it to ANYONE or at school and got beat up for it ?? She surely wouldn’t know it’s wrong bc it came out of a nice black man’s car on his music he was blaring !!” He apologized and told me that he honestly never thought about that situation and ran over to his car and turned it off. We got the dog out and waited for police talking the whole time about that and he thanked me and told me that he appreciated me speaking up and being real with him.
You see my daughter who is now 10, best friend is black and she was playing with her a few years ago and afterwards came to me upset upset bc the girls brother and daddy said the Slang word to each other a couple times and she thought that word hurt black people. I honestly had to tell her that while it is wrong, that black people don’t get upset when they say it to each other but she is NEVER to say it. Do you know how hard it is to tell a child that it’s ok for them but not us and make her understsnd??
I told her about slavery but she still with her caring and color blind heart could not understand why if it’s soo bad why they say it to eachother HAPPILY!?
This situation was blown WAY out of proportion and was NOT racially motivated.
My God people just elected a president who
is and has said more racial things in his career than Morgan Wallen will ever say but the black community still supported Biden!
Google racial things said by Biden. It will blow your MIND . So we put a rasist in the WHITE HOUSE but we take Morgan off the radio for a slag word said in a NON racially motivated manner. Smh
February 4, 2021 @ 5:09 pm
Willie Nelson called Charley Pride N*****.
Is he gonna get cancelled?
February 4, 2021 @ 6:52 pm
He is now.
Thanks a lot, Ching.
February 4, 2021 @ 7:52 pm
Elvis Presley talked about a girl who was gave him a head on camera.
Is he gonna get cancelled as well?
February 4, 2021 @ 6:06 pm
So how long was kyle larson gone from nascar before everything went back to normal? And how much bigger and more powerful is morgan wallen to his industry? Yeah, he is nowhere near done. If this was scotty mccreery maybe. Money talks, he has a lot of time to write music…and he had good timing with the album. Lucky it didn’t happen prior to release.
February 4, 2021 @ 6:11 pm
$100 he goes to “rehab” and comes out on a media redemption tour before the end of the year.
February 4, 2021 @ 6:23 pm
I’ve never hear one second of this guy’s music, but something feels wrong about destroying a person for a one-second mistake. I would love to know how many people who are celebrating his destruction have used the N-word at least once in their life. They were just fortunate enough to not get caught on video.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:21 pm
Amen to that!!!
February 4, 2021 @ 6:56 pm
Well Said
February 4, 2021 @ 9:03 pm
Congratulations on your retirement Nosey Neighbor I hope you and tmz are proud of yourselves for trying to ruin someone’s life.. but this is life and karma always gets the last laugh!
February 5, 2021 @ 12:09 am
I mean, if you don’t enjoy your face, I highly recommend you go up to a black man the size of an NBA player snd call him a pussy ass black boy and see if he finds it to be a racial slur.
February 5, 2021 @ 12:41 am
What fantasy self-righteous virtue signaling world do people live in that what he said isn’t relatively common verbiage in the “homie” sense?! I know people who say it all the time and it is definitely not racist but rather maybe lower class endearment. All these uppity folk so bothered. His sales shot up because a 27 yr old can make out at frat parties or use slang amongst friends and no one cares unless you’re famous or envious. Most average people I know are more appalled that a neighbor would tape it and use it maliciously instead of walking across the street and saying hey, can you quiet down! Let someone tape you unaware and see all that virtue shine 24/7. His sales would shoot up 500% if he skipped the industry forced apology and said “These h**s ain’t loyal”. Cancel the factory I work at because it’s rampant there.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:04 am
The idea of calling it “cancel culture” every time someone does something wrong and suffers consequences for it is utterly ridiculous.
It is life. Actions create reactions. It isn’t a culture of cancellation so much as one group saying we don’t want to continue being associated with what you represent. He can still make music and live his life.
He may even do better for himself who knows. The reactions of his supporters should have been expected but it doesn’t truly reflect society as a whole. Just a portion of America.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:11 am
Dish can remove CMT from my tv package or just turn it off completely.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:38 am
First of all context is everything. The “N” word was used among friends – not to a stranger in a bar/grocery store/gas station. How many times have you called your friends names? Second of all….all these songs with the “N” word and other foul lyrics are getting played and earning money for all involved?
February 5, 2021 @ 5:35 am
Not to get too political, but this one is showing some real nascent Presidential qualities, here. He’s about one good campaign slogan away from ‘Wallen 2024’.
Maybe he could come out against pre-packaged shredded cheddar and have his slogan be:
‘Make America Grate Again’.
February 5, 2021 @ 6:59 am
I have no use for white people who emulate hip hop/thug culture. The word is offensive for many reasons but that is especially egregious to me.
February 5, 2021 @ 7:14 am
It’s amazing to me, there is no rock music, very limited easy listening, no soul, just the same beat, music with people who can’t sing, rapping about killing, f******, down on women, violence and the radio and record companies have pushed this music until that’s all you hear. The “n” word will not go away because it’s in the music that is being pushed to young people every day. My grandson has some black friends, he is 7, and they encourage him to use the “n” word and laugh. Whether you agree with what he said or not. He was at his own home and joking with friends and from what I understand recorded by a neighbor using high tech. If you are going to condemn something, be consistent.
February 5, 2021 @ 8:10 am
I think it’s complete Bullshit. when did one word become so powerful that only a certain group of people can say it and no one else. Personally I don’t care whether or not he said it. I don’t think he was using it in a negative way or to be a racial slur. People have become so PC that they think they have a right to tear down a man’s life just because he used a word. that’s what’s wrong with this country people don’t know how to mind their own damn business and let people live their own lives without trying to control what they say and how they say it. I’ll continue to listen to his music and I don’t give a damn who likes it because it’s my business and no one else’s.
February 6, 2021 @ 10:10 am
Did you watch the video? He absolutely used it in a negative way.
The n-word has been off-limits for decades now. You cannot argue that white people should be able to say it. There is absolutely no excuse.
I’d also add that his life is not being torn down. He’s not going to jail. He can still vote. He can still work. All that is happened is that he lost his current job for what was a firable offense in most workplaces.
February 8, 2021 @ 10:04 am
It’s a complete double standard!! Rappers and black people use that word all the time they even call white people the n-word,but it’s supposed to be okay for you to say the n word if you’re black right? I’m so sick of all this politically correct hypocrisy and bullshit.
February 8, 2021 @ 10:15 am
Given the history of the word and this history of blacks in this country, I think we can live with this perceived double standard.
The n-word has been off-limits for 20+ years. Get with the program. This is nothing new.
February 5, 2021 @ 9:16 am
Reading through the comments here, I have many thoughts.
1) Isn’t saying “yes I can say it because I am black, you can not because you are white” just as racist as saying the “n” word?
2) People do not buy music of any kind because they like or love the person. They buy the music because they can relate to one or more lyrics in one or more songs that the artists has done. There will be many people years from now that will be listening to MW never knowing that the “n” word ever crossed his lips.
3) Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes and everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
4) I am of the opinion that he spoke the word in a setting of friendship bonds. If the the people he was talking to didn’t care, no one else should.
5) Webster’s dictionary. Look it up!
6) Parents, teach your children the difference between right and wrong. Don’t let them grow up looking to the stars for guidance on how they should live their lives.
7) Neighbors, if he wasn’t famous, would it be such a big deal? If more people would tend to their own discretions rather than focusing on someone else’s downfalls…well.
8) I am also of the opinion that if he wasn’t drunk, he would have been more likely to be careful with his words. I also understand that it is not the first time drinking has caused a scene with him. However, do you know how many companys not only send you to rehab, they pay for it and when you are done with rehab, you get your job back.
Personally, I don’t like the “n” word period. It doesn’t matter if it ends in an “a” , a hard “r” or a soft “r”. It is a derogatory term no matter how you use it. No one has the right to judge anyone else on any basis.
Rant over.
February 6, 2021 @ 8:43 am
That reads like a long list that is excusing an adult for his actions.
As to point (4) “he spoke the word in a setting of friendship bonds”…. Did you watch the video? When was the last time a friend called you a p****a**n*****?
And to point (8), you’re dead wrong. Any professional company would fire you on the spot for using the n-word.
I don’t understand why so many people are making excuses for this guy. Actions have accountability.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:17 am
Everyone gets butthurt way to easy these days. This cancel culture has to go.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:27 am
Did his band leave him? We need some payin gigs.
February 5, 2021 @ 10:52 am
Who gives a fuck
February 5, 2021 @ 10:59 am
So when are they going after Eminem with the same torches and pitchforks?
February 5, 2021 @ 12:48 pm
While Trigger is correct in his analysis that Morgan’s fans are rebelling against his forced removal from the industry, some of the other statements on here aren’t so in target. As usual, people excuse blacks for using that evil word while whites get torched. I hate & would NEVER say it, but blacks who complain about racism should ALSO NEVER use it or they are TOTAL hypocrites. I’m not a fan of Morgan Wallen as I really haven’t heard much of his music. And of all his recent stupid moves, frankly the one that bothered me FAR more than the others was his DUI arrest. Drunk driving can directly kill people, while not wearing a mask or using a cuss word most likely will NOT. (YES, I meant that about the mask too. I wouldn’t have bought his music before this, nor now either. But I’d almost do it just to piss off liberals, leftists who use fake racial outrage to make political points, & others… Anyway, go ahead & bash me despite the fact what I’m saying is perfectly logical.
February 5, 2021 @ 1:20 pm
Naggers? cause thats the word Randy Marsh was looking for, and oh what a dirty word, Maybe Morgan should have burned down some businesses turned police cars over set them on fire smashed windows and harassed restaurant diners, then he would have been given a Nobel Peace Prize and be loved and embraced by what Clint Eastwood perfectly summed up as a ‘Generation of Pussies’ .PS suck on this virtue signalling media programmed eggheads – https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/sowell-systemic-racism-is-a-lie-that-has-no-meaning-and-reminiscent-of-nazi-propaganda
February 5, 2021 @ 1:37 pm
Get it Dylan!
February 5, 2021 @ 7:35 pm
Love Eastwood and Sowell!
Group think by the ‘woke’ sheep who are more asleep than everyone they attack is out of control, but everything has a tipping point. Hold onto to your asses, something big is coming!
February 5, 2021 @ 1:52 pm
Maybe his next song will be called Whiskey and loose lips…
February 5, 2021 @ 2:22 pm
I find all this really silly. People like maren morris need to just not talk. I also don’t like this narrative that goes with it against white males in the country music industry. I listen to music that I like. I don’t care if the people singing are saints or not. I’ve tried listening to some of these minorities or women they try to point you to and I haven’t really liked what I heard. I’m not going to listen to someone just to be politically correct or to prop them up because of skin color or sexual status. If I like the voice and the song, I’ll listen regardless, but don’t tell me I have to just because they need more minorities or women singing country music.
February 5, 2021 @ 2:29 pm
We ain’t got no damn band! We don’t need to practice either Randy and we dont need no shit ads manager!
February 5, 2021 @ 2:35 pm
Here’s my take on Morgan Wallen. The stuff that has come out of his mouth is vile, disgusting, and absolutely embarrassing to anyone who has ever called themselves an artist. It shows the vast open hole where his soul should be. Under no circumstance should something so cringe-worthy ever be recorded for the world to hear and see. That’s enough about his music. He also shouldn’t say racist, derogatory, demeaning slurs.
February 5, 2021 @ 4:12 pm
Morgan hasn’t gone anywhere, except STRAIGHT TO THE TOP!!
February 5, 2021 @ 4:49 pm
Wonder if all these people here supporting Morgan Wallen were also buying Dixie Chicks albums in the early 2000s. You know, because you all hate cancel culture so much.
The spike in sales is an embarrassment to country music.
February 16, 2021 @ 10:15 am
All those people supporting MW probably weren’t born yet during Dixie Chicks demise in the early 2000’s.
I think MW’s target audience is young women.
February 5, 2021 @ 6:38 pm
Double standards. Blacks can call each other as well as whites the “N” word all day long, as well as in songs. But heaven forbid a white do it, their life pretty much is done. It makes me sick! I will continue to support Morgan Wallen, as I did Paula Deen when this happened to her. Can you not have privacy at your own home anymore, be free to do and say what you want??
February 6, 2021 @ 12:39 am
Privacy? He shouted it out on the streets.
How do you not realize that there is a difference between a black man saying the n word and a white man saying n word in a derogatory manner.
February 9, 2021 @ 11:18 am
I am not a fan of the word and never use it. I certainly am not a fan of my 17 year old son singing songs that are filled with the word, which is why I try and censor what he is listening too and educate him, but that is what a lot of kids, all races are listening to. I am sure Rap artists are aware of those who are buying their product and if the word is so offensive, why use it at all, why have your fans singing it? We can use this situation as a way of changing the word period if we handle this right. Until we stop making everything an offense (it was obvious he was not saying it in a racist manner more of an ignorant manner toward his buddy), how are we to ever work together or make a statement? There are many people who might be actually racist that do not get recorded. The evil we do not know is much worst then what we see. I am offended by a lot of things, music, movies, shows so I do not buy their stuff, plain and simple. African Americans will always be the race that people are afraid to offend and white people will always be accused of being the offender, nothing will ever change. Meanwhile, look at the other music our children are listening to, the hate, the derogatory words against women, etc. I am more offended that some in country music are using this to their advantage as a judgement, instead of as a way of making country music more inclusive and loving to all races. It says more about who and why they are criticizing then the actual offense. It shows more division and that should make people offended the most. Why can’t we as people stop the divide right here?

Let him (or her) without sin cast the first stone.
What Wallen said was stupid. I couldn’t name one of his songs, I just know his name because of all the stupid shit he does. That being said, the guy needs an intervention and help. Compassion is lost in the madness of this world.
The self-righteous blather from the ‘woke’ knobs and knobettes is nothing but white noise at this point.
February 6, 2021 @ 12:37 am
I too would lose my job if I were caught saying what he said. Him losing his job doesn’t mean his life is over or that compassion can’t be granted eventually.
It does mean that there was a consequence for his actions. It’s not “self righteous blather” to hold people accountable for their actions.
February 6, 2021 @ 6:50 am
As annoying as all the virtue signaling can be, I think it’s necessary that there are harsh repercussions for Morgan. Country music fans are often racist. For those of you who disagree, try playing a gig in Culpepper, VA with a black rhythm section and get back to me.
February 6, 2021 @ 7:18 am
Now is probably a good time to point out that there are brothers on youtube telling people to calm down over the latest Wallen witch hunt.
Nick (above) posted the link.
Might want to be careful calling for harsh repercussions on someone, sounding like Margo Price.
Am interested to know how you handled the situation in Culpepper, Virginia.
If true racial taunting were going on, did you stop playing & address it?
This is a sincere question.
If you did not stop what you were doing, & with an attitude of Grace, address the situation, then you stood with the idiots taunting your black rhythm section.
BTW, i would have referred to “a black rhythm section” as my friends.
Bet a $1. that the black rhythm section was carrying a lot of the show.
Nice try Conrad.
A word of unasked for advice. Do not try to climb the ladder and gain favor with the twitter/woke, by stepping on the backs of your brothers & sisters.
I’m getting back with you now.
Most country fans are not “often” racist.
February 6, 2021 @ 10:05 am
I apologize for the holier than thou attitude in my tone. I only mean to communicate that in any average crowd at a show, there are going to be a handful of folks who make a black person uncomfortable, and you’ll probably here a disparaging comment or 3. I don’t know the correct words to use. I do stand by my statement, though. Just don’t confuse “often” with “mostly.”
And yeah, my musicians are all way better than me and absolutely carry the show. That’s why I hire them. 🙂
February 6, 2021 @ 10:15 am
A lot of people don’t seem to recognize that private companies, like his record company, streaming services, etc have every right to define and protect their own image. They don’t want to be associated with that and he is not entitled to their patronage. What is referred to as “cancel culture” is a product of the fact that if you’re famous (and sometimes if you’re not – yet), every time you’re an asshole in a way that is hurtful to people who have already been hurt, mistreated and abused, there’s a fair chance it’s being recorded by somebody and once it’s out there your employer and other associates may not want that connection. Tough titties. Don’t be an asshole. A lot of people were very supportive of him when his SNL appearance was postponed, even though his behavior was very assholish. I have heard, though I have no first hand knowledge, that he is kind of a known asshole. This wasn’t his first rodeo.
People who see this as him being “punished” have it wrong. Other people, especially business entities not wanting to be associated with you is a natural consequence of your own choice. Conservatives are big on personal responsibility for poor life choices when it comes to poor people who have made mistakes that have really screwed up their lives but if it’s some luckly, privileged prick they are up in arms.
If he is able to find another label or start his own, and there is still a demand for his music, so be it. But he made himself unsavory to be associated with and those companies made their decisions based on what kind of values they want to project.
Racists do not need to be coddled lest they bring their ugliness to some dark corner. If they want to be accepted by decent people they need a clear message of what is and isn’t acceptable. For the last 12 years or so, they’ve gotten the impression that is perfectly OK to act that way, but that is harmful to the country’s ability to move forward. Racism costs everybody and holds this country back from fulfilling its potential.

: D Was not intimating that your musicians are way better than you.
Was just yanking a knot in your tail to get your attention.
I intuit that you are a much better person than the cancel culture mindset.
Am so mouthy that if i see someone being treated in a mean way, i “graciously” get in the abuser’s space & invite them to shut the hell up. Must be that it works because at 5″1′, it really confuses people.
Anyway, good luck with your music. We are all pulling for you.
Tear it up!

MW is a victim of the first amendment to The Constitution (via freedom of association exercised by anyone that takes their ears and their disposable income elsewhere), and of capitalism (anyone in business to make money deciding to not invest their money in him). Not cancelled, not “cancel culture”, just Americans making choices. Same was true for Dixie Chicks in 2003. Same was true for
Don’t like black artists using n*****? Give your money and your listening attention to whomever you want. Want to say n*****, just because black people do? Go ahead. It is not a crime. But other Americans, and American businesses, will then exercise their rights as well.

Cancel culture is the new racism. The bats*it crazy woke left will cancel you whether you said something ten years ago or ten minutes ago. They don’t care…cross their evil Communist agenda and you have to go. I’m not saying Wallen or anyone else shouldn’t be accountable for their actions. But put it in context…he’s a country singer who said a word. He can scream racial epithets from the top of the Grand Canyon for all I care. Right or wrong it’s protected by the First Amendment. Dear Lord, a sincere apology and the chance to better yourself should be enough. Maren Morris’ outfits are more offensive (put on some clothes). It’s not like he’s a Congressman sleeping with a Chinese spy. It’s not like he’s a President fooling around with interns in the Oval Office. It’s not like he drove off a bridge, killed someone and stayed in the Senate. And in big, flashing letters, that’s the problem…if you’re a liberal they look away and you get away with murder. If you’re a conservative or disagree in any way you have to have everything taken from you, no matter how small the mistake. They won’t stop until they control everything we all do, say and think.

So…. are you suggesting that private companies be not allowed to fire their employees for detrimental conduct?
Morgan was not arrested, can still vote, and can still work. None of his liberties have been taken away.
A few companies simply said they do not want to work with him. They have that right.

From waylon to modern time, Finally theres a singer that can fucken singer, a singer that you can listen to sing all day long and dont feel like taking a shit when the day is done…and now Nashville wants to cancel him because of some fucken racist n word theres worser fricken people out there that kill steal and rape and those guys want to make an issue out of this star say the n word…come on guys look up and realize what’s actually happening…let that young start for fill his fantasy because I know it he will be king of country one day….just like Hank William and all the others after him !!!!!

I knew white boys back in the day that used the word N****A. As long as it ended with A and not R it was socially acceptable and they all had black friends.
February 8, 2021 @ 9:13 am
UPDATE: According to Billboard, sales for Morgan Wallen’s music have increased 339% since the incident, while radio play for him has fallen 71%. !!!!!

Yeah, as some have said, this might be temporary and it will fizzle out over time. But, and I know I’m over simplifying here, perhaps there is an underestimation of the groundswell of people tired all of this shit. Be it from the Karens, or all the way up to the political authoritarians. Not trying to delve into politics here, but it’s related. Now one mask isn’t enough, it’s 2. Now I’m supposed to “mask up” when I walk my dog. Next you’re telling me I shouldn’t read or share Trigger. Then you’re telling me what music not to listen to based on a stupid but non ill-intended use of a word. I think that, regardless of policial views, there just might be enough people out there that are getting tired of being told what to do, and want to tell all these people to fuck right off.

What a bunch of horse shit, rappers say the n word in every song and the use the n word in the hood everyday. This world is ridiculous
February 23, 2021 @ 12:26 pm
Morgan Wallen did not use the N word against a person of color . He was partying with friends . I love Darius Rucker Kane Brown and love Jimmy Allen . I don’t care about their skin color . I like their music . I don’t like the N word . But my sons listen to rap and I hear it on their devices . Double standard is getting very old . Privacy with friends is personal not for the world to judge . Morgan Wallen needs to apologize for the hurt he caused . Country Radio needs to accept his apology . They do not need to ruin a career . Morgan Wallen has country music fans and they want him to hear his music see his videos and see him get a chance to grow . Hurting people is wrong no matter what color our skin . Not accepting a apology and trying to ruin a artist is just as wrong as what Morgan did in a 72 hour bender .
