New Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#176)

Consider this playlist like that cool older brother, crazy aunt or uncle, or papaw who turned you onto an entirely different world of music when you were younger that you otherwise would have never known about.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.

Newest Additions:

Emily Zeck – “Old Is Gold”
– An incredible song here from Emily Zeck that gives you goosebumps in how it reminds you of vintage Dolly Parton. Zeck is no newcomer, but it’s been hard to tell over the years where the artist begins, and the “content creator” ends. With “Old Is Gold,” the promise of a true artist emerges.

John R. Miller – “If You Could Only See Me Now” – We’re used to getting more Appalachian folk-style songs from Mr. Miller. But country fans will be quite pleased that he’s turned in a “real weeper” as John Prine might call it, slathered in steel guitar, with irony attempting to hide the heartbreak.

Chloe Hoecker – “Treat Me Like Dirt” – It’s really reassuring to know that there are still great country songs like this out there to be written, for performers to sing, and for us as fans to discover. Composed by Allie Kliethermes, and sung perfectly by Chloe Hoecker for her new EP Missouri’s Country Sweetheart, “Treat Me Like Dirt” is country music bliss.

Charlie Marie – “Heart” – Everything feels just a little more right in the world since we have new music from stunning singer and songwriter Charlie Marie. “Heart” is the first taste from her new album Signs due on June 5th after Charlie took a hiatus from music, a journey across the American West, and is now ready to re-enter music with a renewed purpose.

Boo Ray – “Broken Hearts Are Paint” – Veteran songwriter and troubadour Boo Ray turns in a career effort with his latest single, featuring spectacular songwriting with collaborator David Newbould, and a steel guitar solo that will melt your heart.

Rachel Brooke – “The Real Pretender” – The Queen of Underground Country takes on the cosplay cowboys of east Nashville and other fakers in this delectable classic country tune about the inherent inequities in the country music scene. It’s from her upcoming album This One’s For You out April 24th.

Rhys Rutherford – “Turning Into Us”
– From Ernest’s DeVille Records group, songwriter Rhys Rutherford pens a really good song about the moment early lovers evolve into a proper couple, punctuated by a pretty sick melody.

Drayton Farley – “What You Gonna Do” – “What you gonna do when you catch that dream you’re chasing?” is the question that Drayton Farley asks and answers with his new album A Heavy Duty Heart. It’s songwriting with purpose, clothed in country rock music that’s unafraid to yearn for wide and infectious appeal.
