New Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Playlist (#180)

Don’t trust the dirty algorithms, paid-off outlets, or paid-for influencers to present you the best songs being released in country. Saving Country Music is meticulously digging through dozens of songs each week to find the best stuff to present all in one place, human to human.

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to.

Newest Additions:

Mack Geiger – “Hole in the Wall” – It feels like you can’t spit these days without hitting a new neotraditionalist. But that doesn’t make the songs of the fast-rising Mack Geiger any less impressive. He doesn’t just have the style and sound, but yearns for something a little deeper as well to keep listeners around well after a catchy chorus. “Hole in the Wall” comes off his impressive new EP Walk A Straight Line.

Wyatt Flores – “Half The Man” – This really is the perfect specimen of a Wyatt Flores song where he puts his common insecurities and feelings on inferiority on full display fearlessly, while also finding the right melody and pentameter to present them in. Wyatt’s new album Scared of Heights is out July 31st.

Libby Dale – “Empty Tank” – Fiddle player Libby Weitnauer has previously been seen playing in the bands of Kelsey Waldon and other. Now she’s striking out on her own with the name Libby Dale with very impressive original songs, including “Empty Tank” that seems to take the best of traditional country, Outlaw country, and Louisiana Cajun influences and mixes them into one very infectious song.

Aaron Lee Tasjan – “Lydia’s Boots” – East Nashville mainstay Aaron Lee Tsajan really turns in a gem with this song inspired by Lydia Loveless, and her boots. It might only be country-adjacent, but the melody is too good to pass up. It’s from his upcoming album Get Over It, Underdog out July 17th.

Colby Acuff – “Lipstick on a Pig” – Coby Acuff goes full-blown Outlaw on his new album Handmade Horsepower. This song is a knock down, drag out, full-throated rebuke of the music industry and it’s worst aspects, from fixed awards to hyper crazes, uncaring of who or what might get caught in the crossfire of Colby’s curses. It kind of gives into to every country protest song cliché. But it’s also one hell of a good time

Charlie Marie – “Montana” – First released as a mostly acoustic single via Western AF, the full band version of “Montana” is one of the jewels of Charlie Marie’s comeback album Signs. Along with capturing an immense amount of heartbreak, the song is also an excellent showcase for Marie’s generational voice.

Mountain Grass Unit – “Appalachian Smoke” – Though Mountain Grass Unit is certainly influenced by jamgrass and psychedelic textures as well, similar to Billy Strings, they also remain steadfastly bluegrass. You hear that in the title track of their upcoming album Appalachian Smoke out August 28th.
