New Dwight Yoakam Album Coming. New Dwight Yoakam Album Coming!
Try to look cool. This is Dwight Yoakam we’re talking about after all. But forgive folks if they can’t contain their excitement that the modern King of the Bakersfield Sound has another album loaded up and ready to go with 14 new songs called Brighter Days. Take deep breaths, because it won’t be out until November 15th. But you can feast your ears on a new song out now called “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom).”
How cool is Dwight Yoakam? When it comes to Post Malone’s recent country album F-1 Trillion, it seemed like everyone in country collaborated with him. But when it comes to Dwight Yoakam, it’s Post Malone who has to collaborate with him. Yoakam ain’t appearing with the rest of the hoi plloi, especially when he can’t control the production. After all, Dwight was the first to start collaborating with Posty before anyone else in country, including appearing on his SiriusXM show.
Along with the new Post Malone collaboration, Yoakam will also be covering “Keeping On The Sunny Side” by the Carter Family and “Bound Away” by Cake. But the twelve other new tracks are all written or co-written by Yoakam. It will be Dwight’s first release via his own label Via Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers.
You have to go back nine years to 2015’s Second Hand Heart for the last original Dwight Yoakam album, not counting his bluegrass covers record Swimmin Pools, Movie Stars (2016). Dwight Yoakam self-produced Brighter Days himself, and wrote the songs over the last three years.
As for what we can expect, word is the album will include a “cowpunk-tual” attitude, and infuse “a modern appreciation for country music’s history with the trailblazing rock-and-roll spirit of California” embracing “the quintessential Dwight Yoakam ‘cool.'”
Well hell, we like the sound of that. Same goes for the new single “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye” (listen below). Hopefully this new album will give a kick to the Country Music Hall of Fame and finally get Dwight in there.
Brighter Days is now available for pre-save/pre-order.
Track List:
1. “Wide Open Heart”
2. “I’ll Pay The Price”
3. “Bound Away”
4. “California Sky”
5. “Can’t Be Wrong”
6. “I Spell Love”
7. “A Dream That Never Ends”
8. “Brighter Days”
9. “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom)” (with Post Malone)
10. “If Only”
11. “Hand Me Down Heart”
12. “Time Between”
13. “Keep On The Sunny Side”
14. “Every Night”

Dwight Yoakam, along with Marty Stuart, are among the few country acts that I can drag my wife out to see and she actually enjoys it, rather than just going along to humor me. Looking forward to this one.

I wish both Dwight and Marty would go on a lecture circuit. I could listen to either talk all day. And they have a lifetime of stories. Hard to find two other people who have had more respect and taken more time to learn the stories of their elders.

I’d say Post Malone doesn’t bring a lot to this, but it’s a lot better than anything on f 1trillion, mostly because it’s a Dwight record. But let’s be real: Dwight blows Post away, because is there any other possible outcome????

You seem to think Dwight was laying awake at night wondering what he could do to make the song whole, and sprang up yelling POST!
Can an artist not just have a good time collaborating with a younger artist he has respect for?
It is clear you do not understand Dwight Yoakam or his work.

Great news. Good song; too bad it has Post on it. The guy is so overhyped. Why everyone is kissing his ass is beyond me.

He has the 8th most monthly listens in the entire world on Spotify and a huge amount of that probably has very limited country exposure. Totally new fan base for these artists.
And has a rep for being about the nicest guy in the business.
Can’t say I’m a huge fan either but it’s pretty obvious the opportunity he presents these artists.
Muscadine Bloodline just canceled months of headlining shows to be his opener

Really bummed about Muscadine Bloodline, had tickets to a show in October, glad I saw this so I can work on my refund

“And has a rep for being about the nicest guy in the business.” I saw an episode of Opry a short time back which had Vince Gill, Brad Paisley along with another artist who Malone did songs with and I came away with the same opinion of him.
To me, I felt he was very respectful and seemed to really enjoy playing and singing with the others on the show.
I’m ended up here while looking for info on Dwight, am looking forward to new music from him.
I’m not a fan of the “country music” they have been throwning out there for many years. It’s certainly not for me.
I saw an episode afterwards with Post Malone and he acted as if he truly respected Vince Gill and the other older artists he was on the show with

In this case, this isn’t Dwight kissing Posty’s ass, it’s vice versa. I agree that Post Malone has proved that he doesn’t have a whole lot to offer in country. But he’s got a lot of fans who don’t know who Dwight Yoakam is.

I get what you’re saying, Trigger, but I don’t see many Post fans suddenly rushing to listen to Yoakam’s music or to see him live. Nothing Post has done in country makes me want to listen to his pop music or to see him live. I would much rather see Dwight collaborate with actual country artists.

It seems many people are caught up in looking at all this as some strange chess match.
The answer lies in looking at them as people, rather than merely music industry assets.
I see two deep minded individuals sharing a love of music with each other.
Deciding to “add” Post is not like deciding to add an accordion.
Ask Dwight or Post if they had a good time recording a song together. That’s all that matters. The appreciation for work like this comes from being able to feel what it must have been like to make it happen.

Always excited for new music from Dwight! On another note, have you heard Jon Pardi’s new song that was released today? It was honestly pretty shocking to me. I really hope he doesn’t pull a Chris Young and start releasing pop garbage.
Howard
September 8, 2024 @ 1:42 am
Pardi was on Bobby Bones’ radio show and indicated that the upcoming album will be more rock than his previous work. This single is garbage. Commenters on The Pulse message board are saying it sounds like an Aldean single, and they’re right.
Used to be that mindless “bangers” were sent to radio mainly for spring and summer airplay and the more substantial, reflective songs were for fall and winter. Now everybody’s got to have a banger on radio because that’s all the mainstream country target demo — the Lower Broadway bachelorette party crowd — wants to hear.

Who is Post Malone? Dwight doesn’t need to have a bearded/tattooed, millennial-looking man to validate himself to anyone.

Call Dwight up to let him know you think he’s hanging around a bad character and does not know how to make the best use of his time. I’m sure you know Dwight better than Dwight.
I am surprised Dwight was not thinking of you before making this decision.

This is a terrific song. It’s at once classic Dwight and yet a Dwight who’s evolved in interesting ways while compromising nothing. At one time country was a big part of my music life, but in recent years I haven’t listened to it much, though I recall vividly my infatuation with his early albums. If this is any indication of where Dwight is now, sign me up again.

Interesting that the two singles Dwight released a few years back didn’t make the cut. But, who cares, we’ve all been waiting for the Future Hall of Famer to get a new album out!

One of my favorites. It stands on its own its feet, no need to be surrounded by an album.
Another is his Long Goodbye collaboration with Michelle Branch.

Maybe Charlie Crockett with Dwight instead of Post?

Why not just put Jesus Christ on every song since Dwight is only allowed to sing with our favorite person instead of HIS favorite person.
If you can’t see what Dwight sees, I don’t think it is Dwight who has blurred vision.
I see it clearly.

Jesus Christ wasn’t really known for his singing and I think there would be a language barrier, or at least a pretty strong accent which might be distracting.

I think it’s a smart move to do a song with Post. I couldn’t tell you a song he has done, but my kids do. My kids also know Dwight since my wife, and I love him and have him ingrained in them from hearing him in the house and car all the time.
So, it’s a great way of exposing the younger generation to the masters, and it sounds like classic Dwight, he didn’t cave.
Looking forward to the new release, it’s been too long, but the man needs a rest but is still at it!!

Dwight’s been my gateway to country music, he still has one of the more distinctive voices not just in the genre but in the whole music world. When Post starts singing is like night and day and the first could be his grandson.

hell yea! The single wide open heart was released the other day. definite barnburner. Super cool riff.. John Fogerty esq
I’ll be seeing Dwight with the Mavericks in Saint Augustine, Florida. Traveling 3000 miles from Seattle to what I think is the coolest venue in the country to see who I think is the coolest motherfucker in the country – well right after Billy Gibbons and Hank Williams III anyway.

Dwight and the Mavericks. I can only imagine how good it’s going to be. Two of my absolute favorites; I’ve never seen the Mavericks and think Raul Malo has one of THE best voices hands down.
Enjoy and have a good time!
