New Names & New Songs Added to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Spotify Playlist (#5)
Zephaniah Ohora is quickly revealing himself as one of the greatest country music discoveries in 2017, and so there’s no better place for him at the moment than leading a collection of the Top 25 Current Songs for Saving Country Music’s official Spotify playlist.
As we near the halfway mark for the year, it’s time to start assessing who is setting the pace in songwriting in country music, and one such name is Texas country songwriter John Baumann, whose song “Old Stone Church” was named with six other songs as Saving Country Music’s Best Songs of 2017 So Far. The song also makes the most recent update to the Spotify playlist, as does The Brother Brothers‘ “Cairo, IL,” which comes from their Tugboats EP featured in SCM’s Best Albums So Far list.
Another addition is Canadian honky tonker Kayla Luky‘s song “Bottom of a Bottle” off of her 2017 release, Back to Dirt. The playlist can be streamed below, and for those who don’t do the Spotify thing, feel free to check out a list of the Top 25 songs from the artists and albums that should be considered Saving Country Music’s top current recommendations.

I’d have to say the girls are kicking ass this year.

I’m looking forward to where OHora goes in his writing. He’s new to this, so it’ll be interesting to see whether and how his writing improves. His ace in the hole is Campilongo and that band of 18 Wheelers — those guys are obsessive and can flat-out play anything. They’re like the house band of NYC country. We should be on the lookout for anyone who sings with them.
By the way, in addition to Campilongo, one of those 18 Wheelers named Roy Williams has issued an impressive instrumental album.

Picked up Zephaniah Ohora’s latest after reading your best of list from a few days ago. It has quickly become a favorite. One of the best of 2017 – thus far – for sure.

This playlist has helped me discover some great new music, Zephaniah Ohora being the latest. I use the excellent Houdini Playlist Transfer app (http://houdini.io) so I can have the SCM Top 25 in my Apple Music library. Thanks Trigger.
