New Turnpike Troubadours Song Leaks Via TouchTunes

UPDATE (4-19-23) – The Turnpike Troubadours have confirmed that a new single called “Mean Old Sun” is on the way. Though we don’t have a release date for it at the moment, the single is now available to pre-save.

New music from the Turnpike Troubadours is on the way, though we already knew that to some extent. Now there is an indication that it could be on the way sooner than later.
On Friday (4-14), a new song from the band called “Mean Old Sun” populated on TouchTunes machines at bars and other locations across the United States. As Turnpike fans showed up at their favorite watering hole and went to play a Turnpike song, they noticed the new selection in their catalog. The song came with blacked out cover art, and was attributed to Bossier City Records, which is the band’s imprint on Thirty Tigers.
Saving Country Music’s policy is to not spoil any surprises from artists and bands, even for a good story. Nonetheless, multiple outlets have posted articles about the leak, so Saving Country Music reached out to Turnpike Troubadours management about the issue. Management said they had no comment, but there will be official word about new music “sometime soon.”
The Turnpike Troubadours were rumored to have been in FAME studios in Muscle Shoals in February of 2022, with some now linking Shooter Jennings to their new project. Bassist RC Edwards also confirmed in the summer of 2022 that the band had been in the studio and writing new songs.
Evan Felker played a new song in Houston on May 7th, 2022 called “Cat In The Rain,” and recently at an album release show for Lance Roark, RC Edwards said a new song Roark and himself wrote “might be on that new Turnpike record.”
If anything, a new Turnpike Troubadours single is well past due, let alone an announcement of a new album. Perhaps the misfire on TouchTunes either is a premonition of whats to come, or will hasten the process. Any new music would be the first from the Turnpike Troubadours since 2017’s A Long Way From Your Heart, and the first since their hiatus.
The Turnpike Troubadours are set to play the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, TX on April 21st, with Dawes and Jamie Lin Wilson opening.

Not that they need publicity, but I doubt it was an accident on a night when it was a good market for the bar crowd.
Just give us the music TPT.

Perhaps, but it has all the earmarks of filling out the metadata for a track to be released, 86-ing it for whatever reason, but somehow TouchTunes didn’t get the memo. This happens more than you think, just not with a band everyone’s salivating for now music from like Turnpike.

As much as it’s ended up being good publicity, it was not on purpose. The initial single release was originally supposed to have been that day on all platforms, but it got moved back. Touchtunes didn’t get the memo, which is why it was almost immediately pulled. This has definitely changed the single release plan, though.

Someone blamed Lorrie for this
They said they saw Lorrie was over by the Jukebox!
But I told em she was dancing to the Twist and Shout

Went to a bar, played the song, and had to dip real fast to avoid getting my ass kicked for interrupting the Lil Durk, Lil Wayne marathon

Is it too much to ask for a new Turnpike album, along with a tour supporting the new album? And since the Moonpies are also working on a new album, maybe they could release theirs as well, then open for Turnpike on this new tour I’m trying to manifest.

Can’t wait. And I’m glad all the naysaying Nostradamuses around these parts were wrong about their demise.

Stoked! To me, despite all the griping, it seems like the timing is just right. They’ve done their big arena tour victory lap upon their return, and boy do they deserve it. I have been waiting for a new album just like all their fans presumably have, but I’m still enjoying listening to their old stuff, and I’m not bored with it. That said, when they’re ready to let it drop, I’ll be the first guy in line to purchase it. …and for those of you wondering where Evan will find new material to write about now that they are big stars, let’s be real, the guy has had some trials and tribulations over the past few years, just about ruining his own career and destroying the band, I’m sure he’s got plenty of material.
Oh, yeah, and for me, personally, no interest in hearing the lead off songs, I will wait for the entire album and digest it as a whole.

Good cause I’m tired of Isbell shows.
