Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#22)
There are big changes in the latest update to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 playlist. They start with four new songs added from four stellar new releases. American Aquarium‘s Things Change may give birth to multiple songs that will go on to be considered “Song of the Year” candidates, and one of them is the splendid “One Day At At Time.” The Church Sisters are going criminally under-the-radar with their release A Night At The Opry, and their new song “Starting Over Again” makes the new list. So does “Manitoba Sunrise at Motel 6” by Tami Neilson off her just-released record SASSAFRASS!
Speaking of under-the-radar records, Tim Culpepper has one in the traditional country-styled DUI (Drinkin’ Under the Influences), and the opening track from the record “Drove Her Away” makes the new list. Another country heartbreaker in “Tonight I’ll Scrape a Heart Off The Barroom Floor” from an upcoming album by Michelle Hannah and One Blue Light has also been added.
Also “Best Seat In The House” by Blackberry Smoke, and Brent Cobb‘s “.30-06” freshen their previously-included songs on the playlist. It’s also worth noting that two songs that have appeared on the playlist for the longest have been replaced. Both Ashley McBryde’s “A Little Dive Bar in Dahlonega” and Jon Pardi’s “She Ain’t in It” both stalled out outside the Top 20 at mainstream country radio, and are officially “done” as they say in the business. It was an admirable run for both, but you would like to see more support for better country songs in the mainstream.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist primarily lives on Spotify, but is also available for those who use Google Play and Apple Music thanks to Country Exclusive. For those who don’t stream, you can still find the song recommendations in list form below.

OlaR – are you from Australia? If so just wondering what the state of country music is over there? I often download some the songs on your list and usually like what I hear.

No. I’m living in Germany & Finland (where i was born).
My first australian artist was Tania Kernaghan in the late 90’s. “Leave Like A Man” was the first song & is still one of my all-time favourites.
I started to search for more artists like Tanias brother Lee Kernaghan or Troy Cassar-Daley.
A whole new world with bush ballads & heritage country. Far away from over-produced Nash-Pop, bro or edm-country.
I will go to Tamworth again next year. The best festival with hundreds of artists & concerts in a small town.
Country music is changing down under. Many younger artists go to Nashville & start to sound like all the other Trashville radio-friendly singers. On the other side you will find many younger acts who stay close to the australian “sound” & the mix between country-pop, traditional country or folk/alt-country is still working.
A couple of country artists reach the higher ranks of the pop/mainstream charts & the “Toyota Star Maker” talent search (for country artists only) with the final at Tamworth is one of the biggest (media-)events of the year. Like The Golden Guitar awards. Tamworth is the biggest festival down under every year & Toyota (as main sponsor) plays a big part in australian country-music. Not only for the festival.
A 24h tv-channel (CMC) & a network of local radio stations/programs are playing country music (with a focus on aussie artists). The overall atmosphere is (family-)friendly & it’s easy to chat with a lot of “stars” & artists.

How very interesting – both your life and the description of country music down under. I was wondering if they had their own Bro-country and it sounds like not as much as Nashville. And the Tamworth festival sounds awesome. My wife’s sister lives in Adelaide and we’ve been to visit only once so far – hope to get back down there soon. And I found the Tania Kernaghan song you mentioned and it is very good: another new artist to check out! Thanks for the reply and keep your playlists coming.

Yes “Manitoba Sunrise at Motel 6” is good song but my favorite thus far (listening to the album a couple of times) is “A Woman’s Pain”, I suppose you will be review it even if it has less country songs on it than her previous Albums. The only other song that i’d count as country, but also has a pretty jazzy, 50’s style to it, is “One Thought of You”

Sorry “Good Man” is also one of my favorite and quite “country” It’s a song Patsy Cline could have sung…

I know the production wasn’t up to par compared to his previous album but come on man get to Josh Ward. You never got to ” holding me together” which is a tragity so you owe the man trig. The people need to know about him. So many people enjoyed that randall king review and this is very similar in style. All in all though I was kind of disappointed with his latest album cause it didn’t hold up to the previous album but it’s still a decent 7 out of 10. Do it you have a great platform.

Wes (and everyone else),
I appreciate that you want to see coverage of Josh Ward, and he is definitely on my radar. I understand the passion folks have for their favorite artists, and how frustrating it can be when it appears they’re going ignored. But nothing is getting ignored, and Josh Ward specifically. I am in direct contact with his representatives. His album is in the listening cue. But what you have to understand is that at the same exact time, there are dozens of other albums and artists just as worthy of reviews and feature as his, with scores of fans just as frustrated their favorite artist is not being featured. All of this has also been dramatically exacerbated by the fact that in the last few months, the release cycles have been absolutely jam packed like I have never seen. It has backlogged the entire industry. Saving Country Music is a one man operation. All I can do is continue to listen to albums, continue to feature as much music as I can, focus on one artist, one project, and one article at a time, do the best I can with it, and then move to the next one. In an ideal world I could employ an army of journalists to help me, but unfortunately, print media is under assault, and contracting like never before, making it even more difficult for artists to get press.
We’re all doing the best we can on limited resources. I can’t promise you a feature on Josh Ward or any artist. All I can promise you is that I’m trying my hardest.

Never heard of any of these. But, since they’re probably not on ‘ country radio ‘, and I don’t listen to ‘ country radio ‘ anyway, I wouldn’t know who they were.

This submission is to the fans and not Trig. I know you do your best. If you guys have not listened to the new Nathan Kalish “I want to believe”, you should. Killer album and was recently featured in Rolling Stone as 10 country artists you need to know. Trig has reviewed his older albums here you can look into. It is one of my faves.
