Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#23)
Downright giddiness accompanies getting to add new songs to the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist this round due to the quality of the new selections. Of course the new single from Cody Jinks called “Must Be The Whiskey” was going to make the list, but it’s the new discoveries from under-the-radar artists that are the most exciting.
Those studiously reading Saving Country Music know that one of the best discoveries so far in 2018 has been the singing trio El Coyote from Montreal, Canada. Their self-titled, debut record was first released in early April, but only on Bandcamp. Now it has been made available on most digital platforms, meaning now you’re fresh out of excuses of why you haven’t heard or downloaded this gem yet. The song “Come Around” was added to the playlist at 12:01 a.m., right after it became available online, and in the very top spot.
Another big discovery is Jay Bragg, and his brand new album Honky Tonk Dream. It’s so damn good, he gets two songs on the playlist, with the rousing “I Can Only Dance to Country Music,” and “The Dreamer” both making the updated list. And another song from a brand new release makes the list in Rhyan Sinclair‘s opening track “From Here” off of Barnstormer.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist primarily lives on Spotify, but is also available for those who use Google Play, and on Apple Music thanks to Country Exclusive. For those who don’t stream, you can still find the song recommendations in list form below.

Wow…this Wes Youssi & the County Champs is awesome. Really digging his album.

El Coyote’s album on Spotify is misattributed to an overweight Mexican, but one you find the right one, it’s good stuff.

Was the 4th result on Amazon, that’s one big vato, indeed. It’s really good stuff and well worth the trouble to seek out the whole album, Tip Jar and Lighten up Diane are very nice…
June 22, 2018 @ 2:53 pm
Stange, too, that the El Coyote album shows up in Apple Music with a release date of 2004.
June 22, 2018 @ 10:21 am
Try listening to The Barstool Romeos – Fall from Grace. Good stuff.
June 22, 2018 @ 10:22 am
Good stuff – love the Rhyan Sinclair song. Very rarely does an artist get two songs on the playlist – is that why it’s now 26 songs?
June 22, 2018 @ 12:21 pm
Didn’t want to knock off another worthy song, so I decided to let the sound count “breathe” this time around. I’m sure it will be brought back to regulation weight soon.
June 22, 2018 @ 11:56 am
Steve Moakler could be on this list, check him out!

I am patiently waiting for your take on Karen Jonas and Tami Neilsson’s new albums
June 22, 2018 @ 2:05 pm
Me too. Let’s be patient. We gotta get through a couple more articles about Luke Bryan, Kane Brown, and the Backstreet Boys before we can get to read about those great releases.
At least we have this playlist to tie us over. Some good finds on there. Already sharing the hell outnof Wes Youssi.
June 22, 2018 @ 4:29 pm
No album wasn’t covered on this site just because I posted an article about Luke Bryan or anyone else, and I want you to know that I take it as personally insulting that you would even insinuate that. I work 72 to 80 hours a week to keep this site going, am posting more album reviews than every for you and others to ignore, and ask not a dime in return. Both the Tami Neilson and Karen Jonas releases have been covered by this site, by the way. And when it comes to Tami Neilson, it has been covered three separate times. I cannot review every single record. I also feel confident that if you personally asked Tami Neilson and Karen Jonas, they would confirm that Saving Country Music was integral to very specifically helping to launch their careers. Nobody is pursued by the fact that I haven’t reviewed their records, and the records of dozens of other deserving artists more than me. But the only thing that has kept me from reviewing their records is reviewing the records of other artists.
June 22, 2018 @ 4:23 pm
Both those albums are definitely on my radar. As has been said many times, the release cycle between mid March to mid June has been the most packed I have ever seen. Through that period I have posted more album reviews than ever, but I can’t review everything at once. Also with these two albums specifically, they’re not exactly country records. The Tami Neilson album is a downright soul record. That’s not a knock on the projects whatsoever. But it’s going to take an extra effort to write about it for a country audience, and the priority will always be more country-oriented material.

Awesome playlist. There’s a lot of good music out there right now!
June 22, 2018 @ 5:02 pm
That rhyan sinclair and the el coyote record were fantastic first listens for me today! Wes yousi is becoming one of my most listened to albums this year!
Thanks for all the suggestions in the comments too everyone, i hear so much good music that way. A couple months back someone mentioned the new Leon III album and it has slowly grown into one of my favorites this year.
Highly suggest the new Buffalo Gospel record if you havent heard it. For those in Minnesota both BG and Frankie Lee (his American Dreamer album is essential listening IMO) are playing lumberjack days this july, free shows both of them.

Nice to see .30-06 make the list. Great guitar!
June 24, 2018 @ 9:45 am
Hi Trigger, could it be possible to add a seperate playlist with all the songs that were on the list but were replaced?
June 24, 2018 @ 12:07 pm
One of the reasons I publish and number the playlist updates is so folks can go back and see what was highlighted before. If you go to the search bar and simply type the number of the update, it should pop up at the top of the results. I may try to publish some sort of master list or chart at some point, so it’s easier for people to go back and find those previous songs. What I don’t want to do is highlight the songs I’m kicking off the playlist in updates, because it may feel like I’m diminishing them when that’s not what’s intended. It’s to make room for something else.

Rhyan Sinclair’s “From Here” is an absolutely perfect find–so good, and so old school, it hurts (IMHO).

@Trigger-great list of non-commercial country you’ve compiled here. I’m not a fan of country, but based on this list, I might start to listen and then buy some tracks via iTunes, and add them to my iTunes playlist to play on my iPod.
With regards to any article you’ve written talking about or touching on rock music, I have some pointers as to what great non-country music that’s out there, via a list of sites I’ve compiled:
Exclaim magazine- http://exclaim.ca/ (also a YouTube channel with music videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/ExclaimTV)
Triple J Radio-http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/ (radio playing decidedly non-pop [rock] music, both Aussie and foreign)
L.A. Weekly– http://www.laweekly.com/music
NOW Magazine-https://nowtoronto.com/music
The Village Voice-https://www.villagevoice.com/culture/music/
New Musical Express-http://www.nme.com/

Gold damn, Trxie Mattel has been on the playlist for a while now. That makes me quite happy., It really is an underdog of an album overshadowed by that somewhat awkward album cover.
