Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#24)
Freshly provisioned for your summer road trip, the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist has been reinforced with some doozies of modern country greatness. Leading the charge is the staunchly traditional singer and songwriter Shane Owens, with the lead track off of his recently-released EP It’s a Southern Thing. Called “Love to Try Them On,” the song is not as braggadocios as it may seem at first, it’s the perfect update to George Jones’s “Who’s Gonna Fill Their Shoes?”
Next on the list comes Cliff Westfall from Kentucky via Brooklyn, whose brand new album Baby You Win is setting hair on fire. It’s hard to go through and select just one track from the record, but the twangy jam at the end of “Off The Wagon” is just too damn good not to include.
Where would country music be without its roots? And two artists that help embody the roots as much as any are Canadian folk country artist Colter Wall, and baptist preacher Frank Newsome. Frank’s new album Gone Away With A Friend is like an entire album of Ralph Stanley’s ‘O’Death,” only better if you can believe it, and his song “When I Heard” makes the latest playlist update. Colter Wall is prepping a new record for perhaps this fall, and to coincide with the actual event in Alberta, he’s released the song “Calgary Round-Up” originally performed by Wilf Carter.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist primarily lives on Spotify, but is also available for those who use Google Play, and on Apple Music thanks to Country Exclusive. For those who don’t stream, you can still find the song recommendations in list form below.

I assume you’re list is good because Tim Cullpepper is on there.
Personally, I know that Tim can outsing all the people on that list. And, don’t get me started on his playing….never mind, I’m started!:; he sings better and plays better bass guitar than any one of those other artist +any one of their band mates. Tim is also humble and would be emabarassed to know that folks would say this on his behalf.

Don’t have time today to check all the songs listed by Trig and you, but +1 on the Shane Owens, Randall King, and Tim Culpepper. That’s some solid country.

Is it just me or does Shotgun Rider sound like if Bowling For Soup went country?

Keep em coming Trig! I probably wouldn’t have gotten so into Sarah Shook, Tim Culpepper, Randall King or Joshua Hedley just from the album reviews. At least not so soon. Haven’t had a chance to listen since you updated the list but heard the Shane Owen song on Outlaw Country over the weekend and loved it immediately.

Alan Jackson should get a nod from Shane Owens cause that song title is from a quote he used on his debut Here in the Real World album. Cool track nonetheless though.

Love the whole Shane Owens EP. “Love To Try Them On” is a great song. He may never fill their shoes but this EP shows he’s worthy of trying them on. The songs are immediately catchy but have a good variety among the 6. EP went right into the rotation!
