Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#40)
It’s time once again to juice the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist with some new selections, and it starts with a couple of songs from some recent albums receiving positive reviews here at SCM. We begin with the title track of Taylor Alexander‘s new album Good Old Fashioned Pain, which is yet another 2019 entry for one of the best albums of 2019 so far, of which there has been quite a few of lately. Gabe Lee has also been stunning folks with the songwriting contained in his debut album called Farmland, and his sorrowful “Eveline” also makes the list.
Though the Saving Country Music playlist is mostly designed for independent artist who don’t receive their fair share of attention, when something from the mainstream is good enough and deserving of support, it will be considered for inclusion here as well. Maddie & Tae‘s “Die From A Broken Heart” has been on the playlist before as a song that should be on big country music radio, and one that is resonating deeply with fans. “Die From a Broken Heart” has just been released as the duo’s new single, and so to throw support behind it, it re-enter’s the playlist.
And a good discovery flying under the radar is Kalsey Kulyk, and her single “More Time.” A singer songwriter from Saskatchewan, Canada who survived her parents divorce and getting Cancer in high school, she has plenty of life and real world pain to put into her songs, and that’s what she does with this classic and reflective track.

Happy hunting all over the place, Trig. Some unique voices out there. Surprised not to see Kelsey Waldon. Was she on a previous list?
Love that Thibodeaux track, Ola. That’s a fine song, I’d fire that up in our local anytime.
April 23, 2019 @ 4:31 pm
This is a playlist of new, “current” songs. Kelsey Waldon hasn’t released a new record in nearly 3 years. But yes, she has been on here previously.
April 23, 2019 @ 5:33 pm
I need to knock off the Instagram then. It’s messing with my sense of what’s current or even what’s happening for real.
April 23, 2019 @ 6:42 pm
That Nathan Seeckts album is pretty good! Hey Trig, I live about 45 minutes from Tuscaloosa AL and they are having the 3rd annual “roots fest” Saturday. Let me give you this lineup: Joshua Ray Walker, Courtney Patton, Jason Eady, Adam Hood, American Aquarium, and some dude Drew Holcomb as the headliner. And it’s free. Pumped about some JRW!!!

What about Ryan Upchurch?
Saving Country Music? and you fail to mention the best all around artist in the game.
April 23, 2019 @ 10:14 pm
Thanks for the suggestion Mike. This particular playlist deals with songs released very recently, hence the “Current” aspect of it. Since it’s been some two years since Ryan released new music, it would be included here. When he releases new music. It will be considered. The point of this playlist is not to reinforce the artists you already know about, it’s to present something for listeners to discover.
April 25, 2019 @ 4:22 am
Up church puts out new music constantly. “Creeker 2” was released Saturday 4/20/19. Also “River Rat” was released 2018.
“Supernatural” released 2018, so there are quite a few albums that have been released. Research.
April 25, 2019 @ 2:07 pm
Upchurch is far from the best all around artist in the game. Far from it.
April 24, 2019 @ 6:52 am
The only one I’ve heard, or even heard of, was George Strait’s latest release. But then, the bigger of the two ‘ country ‘ radio stations here refuses to play anything but country-pop/bro-country/hick-hop/crossover. The other plays good country music, but it’s a limited playlist. I think somebody slipped when the first one played Midland’s two releases and Randy Houser’s new release.
April 24, 2019 @ 10:23 am
I wasn’t too impressed with ‘Highway 46’ at first. But it do grow on you. One of my favorites now.
April 24, 2019 @ 1:00 pm
Finally a song from Morgan Wallen worthy of his great “Voice”. This kid can really sing. Just please stay away from FGL.
April 25, 2019 @ 2:17 pm
It should be a crime that Weldon Henson isn’t on the radio. I listened to probably 15 songs of his and there wasn’t one I didn’t like. He is what country music needs right now. I was pleasantly surprised by Gabe Lee. I like “Evaline”, but I think I might like “Alright, Ok”, a little more.“Sit Here & Cry” by Kathryn Legendre and “Where I Parked My Mind” by Tim Bluhm were good as well.
April 25, 2019 @ 7:08 pm
The Taylor Alexander and Gabe Lee albums are so damn great. Been spinning them both a lot lately along with Orville Peck’s debut Pony. It’s not “Country” but definitely country-adjacent. And what a voice,. If you haven’t given it a listen, I highly recommend it. Back to Gabe Lee, every time I listen to the record some new turn of phrase leaps out at me. The record’s just chock full of ’em. Thanks for turning me onto to his music.
April 25, 2019 @ 7:32 pm
You lost me by adding Morgan Wallen’s abysmal cover. Yep, still annoyed by it. Nope, won’t get over it. I’ll see myself out. :/
