Newest Additions to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#44)
A few choice cuts have just been added to the Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist meant to keep you up-to-date with latest songs and albums that should be on your listening radar. Leading the pack is the unexpected, yet very welcome return of Sturgill Simpson to the traditional country realm with his song “The Dead Don’t Die” taken from the recently released Jim Jarmusch zombie movie of the same name. It finds Sturgill in top form, and it leads the latest edition of the playlist.
Many are raving about Aaron Watson‘s new album Red Bandana, which offers plenty of worthy candidates for the playlist. “Am I Amarillo” could have been added here, or the recitation called “Ghost of Guy Clark.” But ultimately the sweet country sounds of “Country Radio” was selected from the bunch to show you why you should be paying attention to this important project.
Bloodshot Records artist Jason Hawk Harris will be releasing a much-anticipated record called Love & The Dark on August 23rd, and the lead single from the album “Cussing At The Light” makes the list. And speaking of much-anticipated albums, we finally have the details of the new album coming from Gethen Jenkins called Western Gold. It will be out July 26th, and a new song just released called “Basket Case” makes the list as well.

The Other Playlist;
Yes…i’m old-fashioned. I buy the songs & albums i like.

OlaR, can you make a Spotify playlist? JK… but seriously, do you download or buy physical copies? You must have a nice budget!
Not that anyone asked, but personally I stream and then buying physical copies of what I end up really liking. Also buy merch, etc. directly, to support the artists. Thx for sharing.

I download single tracks, full albums & buy physical copies occassionally like special editions by Bear Family Records (last one was the box-set “The Knoxville Sessions 1929 – 1930, Knox County Stomp” with 4 CDs & a great 156 page book…very rare recordings made by Brunswick Records 90 years ago).
It’s the third part of the “Historic Sessions” series. The first part is “The Bristol Sessions, 1927–1928: The Big Bang Of Country Music” & part 2 is “The Johnson City Sessions, 1928–1929: Can You Sing Or Play Old-Time Music?”

I listened to all these and there isn’t anything that really grabbed my attention. We are in a real dry spell. Everyone just sounds like someone else who already did it better.

Emily Scott Robinson was named the Telluride Troubadour this year at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She took the main stage on Saturday with a 3 song set. Very happy for her. Traveling Mercies is an incredible album.

Really looking forward to the new Gethen Jenkins album, and glad there seems to be a firm release date now. But, I’m not seeing much official news, or a track list, elsewhere.
Anybody have an official track list? He’s put out a lot of singles in the last year or more. Wondering which ones will be on the album.
June 25, 2019 @ 2:21 pm
1. Bottle In My Hand
2. Heartache Time
3. Whiskey Bound
4. Maintenance Man
5. Restless Ways
6. Waiting
7. Western Gold
8. Strength Of A Woman
9. Basket Case
10. While I’m Away
11. Me My Bottle and Nothing But Time
May have more on the album soon, or I may just wait for the review since the release is so close.

Thanks, Trigger! Looks good. Gethen Jenkins reminds me of Whitey Morgan but with a bit more warmth and soul. A little more fun and upbeat, maybe. On some Jerry Reed vibes. Nowhere near as big a profile as Whitey but in a similar wheelhouse. I thought his previous EP, Where The Honkytonk Belongs, was really solid. I’ve got high hopes for the new album.
