Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#120)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Tommy Prine – “Cash Carter Hill” – When you start your career by releasing a Saving Country Music Song of the Year (“Ships in the Harbor”), you set a high bar. “Cash Carter Hill” meets that high bar, and finds John Prine’s son searching for his own path forward. Tommy’s debut album This Far South releases on June 23rd.
Ward Davis – “Day One” – Any of the four songs on the new Ward Davis EP Sunday Morning could be added here. “Goodbye World” might be the best of them all, but perhaps so devastating, it would be unfair to unleash it on the public without proper warning. So let’s go with “Day One” about finding sobriety, and leave “Goodbye World” for Song of the year consideration down the road.
Whitney Rose – “You’re Gonna Get Lonely” – Canada’s neotraditional country queen is back, and her new album Rosie is exactly the kind of twangy heartbreak material you were hoping for. “You’re Gonne Get Lonely” is emblematic of the high quality traditional country the album has to offer.
Joe Stamm Band – “Wrong Side of Town” – Midwest country rocker Joe Stamm really says it all in this anthemic ode to the dichotomy of American life that is often illustrated by the bisecting of our communities. The song was released in conjunction with the Joe Stamm Band being named the Emerging Artist of the Year at the Peacemaker Festival in Arkansas (7/28-7/29). EP Fort Smith to be released on July 14th.
Miles Miller – “A Feeling Called Lonesome” – It may take a while for some to not think of him as “Sturgill Simpson’s drummer.” But “A Feeling Called Lonesome” by Miles Millers goes a long way to establishing this newly-minted solo artist as his own man. Debut album Solid Gold out July 7th.
Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives – “A Friend of Mine” – Marty Stuart really is a country music marvel. He’s in his mid 60s, and still remains as cool and relevant as ever with his California country-infused new album Altitude. The whole album is worth spinning cover to cover, but “A Friend of Mine” stands out with its message.
Hot Country Knights – “Herassmeant” – Doug Douglason (Dierks Bentley) and Darla McFarland (Lainey Wilson) pair for this hilarious single from Hot Country Knights that helps open the second salvo from this 90s country sarcastic side project. It’s not even supposed to be taken seriously, and “Herassmeant” still is a hell of a lot better than whatever radio is playing these days.

Did the spotify issue ever get resolved?
May 28, 2023 @ 8:21 am
All I know is I kept reposting it every time they took it down (3 or 4 times), and eventually they stopped. My understanding is that all anyone has to do to take down a rival playlist is to make a claim of some sort of copyright or trademark infringement, and Spotify will take it down no questions asked. It’s commonly done by people with competing playlists to try to eliminate competition. But I own the trademark on “Saving Country Music,” so there is no legitimate claim to be had. Either way, it’s water under the bridge at the moment. Hopefully the issue doesn’t pop up again.

Damn impressive that Ward is already in the conversation for song of the year and May’s not even over yet. Very happy to see JSB make it on the playlist. If you grew up on Mellencamp, Springsteen, and Seger, then you need to be riding the Joe Stamm Band train. The EP coming in July is just the appetizer, a full album is coming in August and it feels like that one will break the seal on the Midwest’s best kept secret.

Hey Trig,
Conrad wrote this really cool song earlier this month.
Would love for him to put it on YouTube.
Had to buy a new phone, & the old phone will not charge, so have lost the ability to communicate with Conrad via, text or email.
This song came at a perfect time.
Have promised my brother, Dave – Chief Pilot for Lanigan, Rahal, Letterman, who is extremely busy currently, that I would take on seeing that our great great (great?) grandfather’s grave be uncovered. It is thick with brush, branches, and briars. Will be contacting the funeral home in Vallonia this week, see what steps need to be taken.
Our great great grandfather was a Civil War veteran, as so many men were.
Our goal is to have a veteran headstone put on his grave.
Made a promise to my brother to have the area cleared by his birthday on June 29th.
I can clear all the brush myself if the funeral home which oversees that graveyard isn’t thrilled about doing it.
: D Conrad’s fairly new song, really hit home, in a great way.
“I mow the grass at the first and last Baptist Church in town …”

Many former NBA stars spoke of Larry Bird. More than one said that he played chess when the rest played checkers. That is how I feel about Marty and the Fab’s. They are just in another league. The public at large doesn’t see this, but many insiders do. Hope this album wins a Grammy. It would authenticate somewhat that pitiful excuse of an organization.

Yes! Listened to the album a couple times thru today. Great consistent vibe end to end. Can’t wait to finally see Marty and the Fabulous Superlatives in September. And I still love watching Larry Bird videos on YouTube.

we are also finally seeing Marty and band this summer

Listened to cash carter hill by tommy prine. It’s ok but it would be far better to me without the loud crescendo for lack of a better term. On Spotify it comes with three other songs, mirror and the kitchen sink, reach the sun, and this far south. I actually think all three are better especially This far south. It gives me ships in the harbor vibes. I think the album is going to be great.

Even though it is new, Herassmeant is one one of the best radio-unfriendly ‘dirty’ country songs, just behind ‘It’s hard to kiss the lips at night (that chew your ass out all day long).
It’s just so well done.

Stamm has got to be one of the hardest working and touring guys out here.
Good to see his name here.
