Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#140)

Memorial Day weekend and the unofficial start of summer is upon us. This is a great time to dive into some of the best country music coming out this season, and to look forward to some great albums in the offing.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Jamey Johnson – “21 Guns” – Celebrating Memorial Day isn’t all about boat rides on the local reservoir and weenie roasts. It’s a moment to honor the fallen. Leave it to Jamey Johnson to do that better than most with his first official new single in many years. Don’t be surprised if we get news on a new album by Johnson by the end of the year.
49 Winchester – “Fast Asleep” – This song works like all of 49 Winchester’s greatest songs, delivering an emotional wallop at the end of frontman Isaac Gibson’s soulful voice. Gibson says he actually wrote this song when he was 19, but waited until now to release it ahead of their new album Leavin’ This Holler out August 2nd. Strings provided by the Czech National Symphony Orchestra.
The Mavericks – “Overnight Success” – There’s not much better than a song from The Mavericks when they really get a hold of one, and do what The Mavericks do. “Overnight Success” featuring fiddle and accordion reminds you a lot of those excellent older Mavericks country songs from the ’90s. It was co-written between Raul Malo, Rick Trevino, and others, and originally recorded by Trevino in 2001.
Kaitlin Butts – “Roadrunner” – Those who’ve seen Kaitlin Butts live recently will recognize this crowd pleaser and consummate road song. It’s now officially the title track of her upcoming album out June 28th. Meep meep.
Alice Wallace – “Letting It Go” – Those who know about Alice Wallace know she’s perhaps one of the best singers around. Her songwriting isn’t too shabby either, and she combines both her superpowers for this powerful song ahead of her new album Here I Am out June 28th.
Sachin and the Porch – “Drinkin’ For Free” – Super fun song perfect for Memorial Day weekend and summer from a band to keep an eye on out of Austin. Old alt-country vibes from this one in the best of ways.
Presley Haile – “Lone Star State of Mind” – This is your opportunity to get Presley Haile on your radar, because there’s a good chance we’ll be hearing much more from her in years to come. You might recognize this song written by Fred Koller and Pat Alger from a previous version by Nanci Griffith. A great voice, and great steel guitar on this track.
Tylor & the Train Robbers – “Workin’ Hands” – This Idaho-based band always comes with the most thoughtful and wisdom-driven songs that still short nothing on the enjoyment factor. “Workin’ Hands” comes from their new album Hum of the Road out now.

People against Morgan Wallen ,All this backlash about all the stuff he does the fines he had to pay for repeating music lyrics that’s been said. I don’t think he should have paid , I don’t see any black artist having to pay for singing about white crackers , referring to white people , I don’t see Puff daddy losing these commercials he does after beating women on camera !!! What the Hell !! And his music receiving backlash and a lot of other musicians they seem to pick and choose which ones to hate on !!!

I think you’re on the wrong article.

Love that new Jamey Johnson tune! As a drinker, I had to check out “drinkin for free” just bc it was right above JJ and thought it was real cool! Love me some fiddle and harmonica and this one scratched that itch! Will keep for my eye for those guys!

So awesome to have a new song from Jamey. “Fast Asleep” by 49 Win is fantastic – haven’t stopped playing that one since Friday morning. Great to see Presley Haile make it on the playlist. She’s all over Texas radio and I agree she’s got the chops to break out beyond that market.
If you like some serious gravel and grit in a female voice like I do, I highly recommend you check out Sheyna Gee’s new single “Blue”. Her range and power is truly mind-blowing and this is definitely her most traditional release of her relatively small output to date. Pedal steel all over this one and I’m hoping this is the direction she goes when she eventually releases a full album.

Out of these new tunes I really like that Presley Haile track as well as Jamey Johnson’s and 49 Winchesters. Of course, Alice Wallace has one of the most incredible voices in the world and is always being spun here in the trailer. The Nicolette and The Nobodies album is great and there’s a song on there, called Show Up which just blows me away. On a different note, Jesse Daniel & company was here Thursday night, and it was nice to hear the new songs live. The nicest folks in the world to boot!

21 guns is a pretty good song. Drinkin for free is a great song, sort of rock a billy if you will. Not typical of triggers usual offerings but i like it.

Good to see Alice Wallace back, five and a half years after her 2019 album INTO THE BLUE, with “Letting It Go”. Even though she recorded it inside the Nashville city limits, it still shows the old-school California country-rock influence of Linda Ronstadt.
Alice also still has Side Pony going with Caitlin Cannon; and every once in a while, they are joined onstage by Britt Ronstadt, Linda’s second cousin.

…i’m not sure what actually is selected first – the new additions to the scm playlist or the new introductions on that orange ticker line there below the top of the website? the latter one is such a little gem and never failing to come up with stuff worth giving a listen. really neat.

Trigger,
There’s something weird about the playlist on YT Music. After Trees there are several more songs from previous versions of the playlist. Here’s a screenshot:

I think I fixed it. Those videos were “hidden” by their authors, and so they disappeared from the playlist proper, but if you have certain settings toggled, you can still see them. I went back and found how to see them and deleted them.

It’s fixed on my end now!
