Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#150)
Detox from the onslaught of Christmas music with some of the best songs released in late 2024, along with some of the very promising singles released ahead of highly-anticipated albums for 2025.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Matt Steinfeld – “Resurrect the Tender” – Matt Steinfeld waited until December 20th to release what might be one of the best country songs in 2024. Sending chills down you like the best of 49 Winchester, this soulful and well-written song makes it imperative you put this songwriter on your radar.
Olivia Wolf – “Cosmic Appalachian Radio” – Combining the raw infectiousness of Appalachian roots with the wild expanse of the cosmic universe, “Cosmic Appalachian Radio” sucks you in, and gets you anticipating the release of Olivia Wolf’s album Silver Rounds on January 17th. A female version of early Sturgill Simpson?
The Doohickeys – “Rein It In Cowboy” – Keep your eye out for this duo’s debut album mixing hilarity with traditional country called All Hat No Cattle coming out January 24th. But “Rein It In Cowboy” doesn’t need humor to be entertaining. It’s a honky tonk heater with a message.
Ashley McBryde – “Ain’t Enough Cowboy Songs” – We agree Ashley, and thanks for contributing a great one here. What would be even greater is if McBryde’s next album was a straight traditional country record. Perhaps this is a precursor, or a trial balloon. Either way, it’s fire.
Jade Eagleson – “Welcome To Rock Bottom” – Like a cold front bottled up north of the Canadian border just building up potency before it bursts over the American line, Jade Eagleson has been garnering a strong following in the great frozen north, and now looks to break out in the United States as a traditional country star in 2025. A pair of new songs released in October help set the table.
Larry Peninsula – “Mountain Livin’” – Larry Peninsula continues to prove that he’s Finland’s premier honky tonker with songs that feature incredible composition and instrumentation. You’ll immediately fall in love with “Mountain Livin’.”
Hillbilly Casino – “Tow Truck” – This song from these wild rockabilly legends is about a tow truck towing a tow truck towing a pickup that is towing a boat. It’s hilarious, and guaranteed to get stuck in the 12-year-old part of your brain indefinitely.
Benjamin Tod – “Privilege of a Man” – Benjamin Tod is not here to listen to your bellyaching about the cards you’ve drawn in life. He’s like the David Goggins of country music, giving thanks for the pain and the struggle, and inspiring you to do the same.

I’ve been loving this John Osborne produced Ashley McBryde too Trig. Let’s hope the Jay Joyce era is over. I’ll take an album in this vein any day! I really like the Jade Eagleson and the Hillbilly Casino one as well. They used to play here often and always tore it up. Fun to watch!!!
The Castellows 3 song thing is in heavy rotation here, the first track was co written with Brit Taylor and another with Kendell Marvel. Absolutely love it! This kid Ty Myers has a tune called Drinkin’ Alone that just grabbed me, as has the Braxton Keith EP.

Too bad that, if it goes to radio, it will follow “Cowboy Songs,” now near the top of the chart for Nashville-machine non-entity George Birge. I suppose it could be worse — she could have used “Dirt” in the title.
Joyce’s production worked well on some of Ashley’s songs — “Made For This,” especially, although I thought her live version was far superior to the studio rendition — but on others, his rock-based noise did its best to ruin whatever charm they had.
Stellar

I’m glad you mentioned Ashley McBryde’s new one. I feel like it quietly came out but it was a great track to end the year with. Looking forward to her new album.

The Doohickeys’ song is straight fire and bonus for a great band name. Olivia Wolf is now on my radar with this song, gives me a next level cool vibe a la Nikki Lane. JB Chicago mentioned Ty Myers. He showed up on my release radar last week with “Can’t Hold Me Down” and immediately caught my ears with this fantastic soul country jam with horns, B3, and big backing vocals reminiscent of Jamey Johnson and his 12-piece ensemble live. Ben Chapman’s “Downbeat” is all soulful groovy country funk as expected but Ben’s writing on this one is markedly more personal than past projects. Looking forward to seeing him play ‘em in a month.
