Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#154)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Matt Daniel – “Long Way Home” – This somewhat mysterious songwriter from Texas returns with yet another stunning track to compliment the stuff from his scandalously-underrated 2022 album All I Ever Need. This guy is just an incredible melody writer, with an excellent voice to deliver it. “Long Way Home” is immediately lovable.
The Castellows – “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am” – We knew these singing sisters were good eggs. They prove it once again with their rendition of “You Don’t Even Know Who I Am.” Even if you’re familiar with the original version of this song recorded by Patty Loveless, and written by Gretchen Peters, you’ll love the spectacular arrangement and sister harmonies The Castellows brought to this excellent song.
Tony Logue – “Yellow Rose” – We might have a Song of the Year nominee in this track off of Tony Logue’s new album Dark Horse. Tony really outdoes himself in the writing with how this song unfolds. It’s a great use of story, character, and perspective.
Juliet McConkey – “Another Time” – Make sure you don’t overlook Juliet McConkey’s new album Southern Front. It’s full of stunning writing and performances, and “Another Time” is an excellent specimen of this, looking at love through the aspect of time, and delivering and incredible forum for McConkey’s soaring voice.
Low Gap – “Churches” – This young and promising brother duo from Ohio turns in perhaps their best single yet. Employing smart writing and excellent instrumentation, “Churches” delves into the dichotomy of living in in rural Americana vis a vis religion.
Tony Kamel – “Makin’ It Work” – The frontman for the Austin-based bluegrass group Wood & Wire returns with his latest solo album We’re All Gonna Live out April 18th, co-produced by Bruce Robison. “Makin’ It Work” is a fun tune about trying to juggle life as a parent and a musician, and gives off strong vibes of The Band.
Zach Top and Billy Strings – “Things To Do” – Zach Top and Billy Strings together? What could be better! Their acoustic version of this Zach Top song is one of three just released on the 3-song EP Me & Billy. Hopefully the future sees more collaborations between these two landmark artists of this era.
Charles Wesley Godwin – “It’s Her Move” – Charles Wesley Godwin’s gift is embedding the gravity of real life moments into epic-feeling songs that take you on vivid journeys. “It’s Her Move” is from his new 7-son EP Lonely Mountain Town.

Looking forward to your take on the new Wilder Blue album!

Funny, “Long Way Home” is a co-write with Nate Fredrick, the man behind the scandalously underrated 2021 album Different Shade of Blue. Could there be a secret club of scandalously underrated singer-songwriters somewhere in the middle of nowhere, Texas? If so, Juliet McConkey and Amanda Fields are sure to be members.

Yes, Matt Daniel and Nate Fredrick are both great!! and their albums were killers!!

A fantastic song and a new discovery for me. I love Matt Daniel’s voice. Going to have to do a deep dive here.
Guess Nate Frederick, Juliet McConkey, and Amanda Fields need a listen, too. Thanks for those.

I believe you’re in for a treat!

Your about to have another “is it country” controversy. Chappell Roan just released “The Giver” and it’s going to be huge. Lots of fiddle and Shania esque production. Can’t wait to read the comments when you post about it. Lol

I’m am 1000 percent in on the “Yellow Rose” song of the year candidacy. I know it’s early to be talking about that but Tony’s album is at the top of the heap for me right now. Jinks’ new single “Put the Whiskey Down” is a rocker and hopefully indicative of a more uptempo and light-hearted album this time around. My girl from Frisco, TX, Grace Tyler, released a break-up EP. It leans a bit pop country but as someone once said in these comments, “I don’t mind a little pop country as long as it doesn’t insult my intelligence.” Grace’s writing is way too good to ever do that and her baritone voice reminiscent of a younger Miley is just mind-blowing.

It’s nice that you included the Castellows in the playlist.
I was lucky enough to see them live in Germany last week and I was totally overwhelmed by their stage presence and by the power they bring to the stage with their backing band. Fortunately they performed in Berlin the same night as Sam Barber, Wyatt Flores, 49 Winchester and Dylan Gossett. It was one of the very rare moments to see so many good bands in Europe at once. Such events are extremely rare here. We fans are very, very grateful and moved when we are able to experience something like this.

Brudi Brothers- “me more cowboy than you “needs to be added. Great singalong and a viral hit

Consistently enjoy this feature, thanks for highlighting good music. Also Teague Brothers Band put out a new single recently that’s gotten a good number of spins at my house – Tell Me Anything. I think this next one coming up is the album where they really hit their stride.

I’m hearing lots and lots of good songs in 2025. SCM playlist is dominating my Spotify. But I’ve yet to hear an album that snared me deep. Josh Ward’s was close. I’m going full Tony Logue today to see where it leads me. CWG’s EP felt like an EP, just not enough. Charlie Crockett’s album, prolly ’cause its close in time to the prior release, is ‘shaded’ by $10 dollar cowboy. I’ll try Juliet McConkey next as the Shaman of SCM seems to indicate. Anyone have a suggestion for an album this year I need to hear? Please reply.

Other than McConkey, Cam Pierce – A Thousand Lonely Horses.

Tobacco City – Horses

Love the new Matt Daniel tune. Glad to see it make the list.
