Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#157)

Everybody wants to be “country” these days, muddying the waters even more when you want to stay connected to these best stuff in the country genre. Luckily, you’re plugged into this playlist where the best songs rise to the surface. In this update, there’s a lot of big songs to get you ready for a lot of highly anticipated albums releasing in the coming weeks.
The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs just added.
Newest Additions:
Kat Hasty – “Breaking Up The Band” – Kat’s lack of impulse control is one of the recurring themes in her music. This new one from her upcoming album The Time Of Your Life (5-16) is based on actual events, specifically when she fell for her lead guitar player and Yoko Ono’d her own band. It’s hilarious, ribald, and highly entertaining.
Weldon Henson – “Lost In Time” – The honky tonk prince of Austin’s honky tonks is finally getting ready to release a new album called Stone Cold Country on May 31st. He primes the pump with this ode to old souls and those lost in the modern world, which if you’re a fan of old school country music, probably includes you.
Christopher Seymore – “Doin’ Time” – Christopher Seymore has a super twangy debut album called King of Nothing coming out on May 2nd. “Doin'” Time” is a great specimen of what you can expect.
Stacy Antonel – “Swinging Doors” – The Ginger Cowgirl is best known for her country weepers and bold songwriting. But for her latest batch of songs, she’s taken a surf rock approach to country classics in a super fun project called The Seahorses. This take on the Merle Haggard classic is a hoot.
Johnny Falstaff – “El Camino” – There are a lot of folks out there right now trying to do cool, retro styles of country, bandwagoning on the genre’s popularity. But Johnny Falstaff is the guy who’s been here the whole time. He’s who the hipsters are trying to emulate. He proves this once again on the new song “El Camino.”
Olivia Ellen Lloyd – “You” – Olivia Ellen Lloyd has released a distinctly inspiring album in Do It Myself, full of great writing, and just enough country textures to pull in listeners from beyond Americana. “You” is about one of those chance encounters with someone that your heart finds hard to let go of.
Willi Carlisle – “Work Is Work” – Though the heart of Willi Carlisle’s music is folk, his recorded songs do a great job roping in folks from all the roots disciplines, from country, to Americana to even bluegrass with their sound. “Work Is Work” is a great example of this. Willi’s new album Winged Victory is out June 27th.
Pug Johnson – “Hole In Me” – A lot of folks are raving about Pug’s new album El Cabron of one of the season’s best. Johnson evokes all kinds of different influences on the project, but it’s classic country songs like “Hole In Me” that give off the strongest signal.

Can I say that the Cam Pierce album gets better and better the more you listen too it .

I agree. That is a keeper for me. The Pug Johnson album was though is my favorite of the year – actually favorite in a long time.

Ashley Monroe announced a new album and released a new song featuring, and cowritten by, Marty Stuart (with Shelby Lynne on guitar).
Does the mention of Marty Stuart get Ashley Monroe off Trig’s naughty country list?
April 27, 2025 @ 3:39 pm
I look forward to Ashley Monroe’s new album, but the song with Marty Stuart did little for me. Kept waiting for it to develop.

Well, ok, fine.
As far as women in country, she’s probably a better singer songwriter than even Dolly…second to Cindy Walker purely as a songwriter.
But ok.

Trig,
What’s your take on Jake Worthington’s “it ain’t the whiskey”?
April 28, 2025 @ 7:09 am
I like it. Might replace the song of his already on here with the next update, we’ll see. Just wanted to keep riding with his current song with Marty Stuart for a bit longer. I think these artists are releasing songs too quickly.

What about the Vandoliers new single “Life Behind Bars”?
April 28, 2025 @ 10:01 am
The new Vandoliers album is on my radar despite being announced behind a paywall. I look forward to hearing the whole thing and will definitely consider putting a song on the playlist. Enjoyed the title track, but holding out for something that might be a better fit.

Always a pleasure to see Willi get his flowers.
Can’t wait for his new album and US tour. Finally getting the chance to see him live.

As always, great adds, ty.
If there was a top 26, presley haile’s single “dog in the cold” is pawing at the door.

Love the Olivia Ellen Lloyd album.
