Newest Adds to Saving Country Music’s Top 25 Current Playlist (#61)

The Saving Country Music Top 25 Playlist is built to keep you informed on all the best songs and albums coming out right here, right now in country and roots music. It’s available on most all streaming formats (see below), or you can just use the song, artist, and album recommendations to find something new to listen to. New songs have just been added.
Newest Additions:
Tessy Lou Williams – “Why Do I Still Want You” – Consider this your official warning about the upcoming self-titled debut from Tessy Lou on May 22nd. It’s country, it’s cutting, it’s quality songwriting, and it’s a record you’ll want to have on your radar. “Why Do I Still Want You” is a good reason.
Parker McCollum – “Like A Cowboy” – Parker is known for writing all of his own music, but in this instance he’s chosen a song that happens to be written by Chris Stapleton and Al Anderson. McCollum said he was drawn to the song because it reminds him of his grandpa. It’s his second release since signing to UMG Nashville, and proves he’s still planning to keep it country.
Western Centuries – “No Cure” – From their new album Call The Captain, “No Cure” is a good example how even a sad song from this band can fill you with a deep appreciation for music and life.
Andy Brasher – “Crows and Buzzards” – A new take on an old song from this Kentucky songwriter’s new album Myna Bird, it makes for one of the best modern murder ballads you can find.

Andy Brasher is from my area of Kentucky. I’ve seen him play countless times in local bars and at local events. Really talented guy. Glad he is finally getting his due.

With live music non-existent for the foreseeable future, one thought that just crossed my mind is how do you think your criteria for choosing which albums you review will change, if it does change? Just wondering since your about page states you try to give preference to touring artists.

Obviously with nobody touring right now, that’s not going to be a prerequisite. All that phrase means is that I would rather cover an artist who is trying to make a living with their music over one that isn’t, but that’s not always required. The biggest requirement with whether I choose to review something is if I can find something interesting to say about it.

Ola – in addition to Trigger’s Playlist updates I always try to check out a lot of your songs and I found a gem in Jimmy Yeary – Same Water, Different Boat. It has to be a message to us all about this virus mess we are going through. Good voice but great lyrics – I encourage everyone to check it out. Thanks for the recommendations.

The right song for the current situation.

Some superb recommendations here. As a UK fan of country (not that FGL or Sam Hunt crap), I’ve discovered some great but sadly lesser known artists. Especially enjoying Tessy Lou Williams at the moment, looking forward to her album. Also looking forward to Whitney Rose’s album on Friday.
Keep up the good work!

The new Nathan Kalish “Songs for Nobody” should likely will be on many end of the year album lists. I am quite shocked there are mo songs from that album on this list yet.
April 27, 2020 @ 7:03 pm
You left out Tyler Childers.
April 27, 2020 @ 7:20 pm
Tyler Childers has definitely been heavily featured on this playlist in the past. But since the idea is to feature the most current music and his last album was released a while ago, there’s nothing from him here at this moment.
